...Being privileged to live in Brighton, for almost all of my life, I may be forgiven for becoming somewhat blasé about some of the annual events and attractions that take place here. Some of these are 'local' events, whilst others are far more widely known. Probably the most well established event on the calendar is the London to Brighton Veteran CarRun. Brighton has links with the dawning of the motorcar that may well not be widely known. An example of this is the National Speed Trials, held on the sea front on the first Saturday of September each year. Stephen King, you could presume, has a certain degree of foresight. Whilst not exactly identical to his novel The Running Man (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman and published in 1982), the likes of Big Brother, Shipwrecked and any other hopeless reality television programme you care to mention certainly conforms to his future society where the masses lap up reality game shows. Yet the game shows in King's world are often deadly to the contestants despite the big money prizes on offer, making it all the more intriguing for the bloodthirsty audiences of the future to enjoy. Imagine being treated to the likes of watching some nobody looking for their 15 minutes of fame "Climbing for Dollars", before they slip and fall into a pit of wild dogs and are torn to shreds by Mutley and Co. for being an utterly miserable...
Advantages: Original, fast-paced storytelling, a visceral thrill. Disadvantages: Hard to work out the thinking behind the action.

Fearing for his life, he tells Lola that he plans to rob the supermarket opposite his phonebox. Attempting to advise Manni against this, Lola can only secure herself a twenty-minute delay; when the clock strikes midday, Manni will enter the supermarket - unless his girlfriend can get there with the money first.
With this, Lola starts running, trying to secure the money and reach Manni on the opposite side...

Review of Run Lola Run (DVD)
...I would just like to write a review on running for charity, although it is something that I may actually have covered in part in some of my previous reviews in some descriptions. However, back to the subject in hand.
Advantages:
1. You get fit, as you have to train in order to complete the final run (this is usually by way of a marathon).
2. You get to meet like minded people, although they may not all be running for your own charity (or they may not even be running for charity!).
3. You get a feeling of purpose and a sense of goodness, as you are doing something to not only help yourself but also to benefit others in some way.
Disadvantages:
1. Will power, in terms of actually getting off your behind to train! Also, doing the marathon is also something that needs will power. If you don't have it, then you are a bit...

Review of Running for Charity
...I would just like to offer some thoughts on running, after spending sme time doing it in training for the local half marathon.
One of the good things about running is that it actually not only gets you out of the house, but believe it or not actually gets you fit at the same time! It is about one of the only things that helps you to get fit, that doesn't cost a single penny to do! OK, so you have to buy a decent pair of running shoes along with some decent kit - but as an intial outlay, that is nothing compared to the fun that can be had in this hobby.
This is also something that can be done with a friend, as you can encourage one another as you go along. Or, you could also always join a running club and meet new like mminded friends at the same time as getting fit (OK, fitter!).
However, there are many downsides to running...
Advantages: It's a fast-paced, exciting, inventive masterpiece Disadvantages: It's a bit strange; it's German (only jesting)
...I only came across Run Lola Run because my favourite episode of The Simpsons, Trilogy Of Errors, contained an homage to this film. You may have seen it; it's the one where they show one day from the perspective of each family member. Lisa is late for her school science fair, so she runs down the street to some techno background music. I subsequently learned that that scene is based on Lola Rennt (or Run Lola Run), a German film from 1998, starring Franka Potente.
The film tells the story of red-haired Lola, who has just 20 minutes in which to find 100,000 Deutschmarks. Her boyfriend, Manni (played by Moritz Bleibtreu) needs the money by 12 o'clock or he will be killed by a gangster after a transport mix-up caused him to leave a bag of money on the train. Advantages: Better than getting the bus! Disadvantages: Can be expensive to run. If you dont look after your car you can make the warranty invalid

Alternator Belts: - Another common failure is alternator belts, which may also run power steering and brake pumps. Check for cracks, and also the free play. Basically this means press the belt in the middle with your fingers midway between two carrying wheels and see if you can be pushed in by more than 2cm. If so it needs tightened up to prevent it from making a horrible high-pitched noise and to ensure it continues to charge the battery.
Antifreeze: - Check that your car has enough in before the cool icy mornings come. If the engine water freezes it will damage your engine. Most fast fit centre offer you a free checks to test your anti freezes strength...
Advantages: QUALITY, VALUE FOR MONEY, COMPACT. Disadvantages: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

After the sudden death of my 7 year old Pro-form treadmill it was time to start looking for something to replace it with but being somewhat out of pocket (probably due to credit crunch/petrol prices) my budget was under £400. I must say I didn't think that I'd be able to get much treadmill for my money.
FINDING A TREADMILL
I started my searching on the Internet with a firm called fitness-superstore http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk, which has a great range of low priced treadmills and I soon became zapped by the latest designs and specifications of the new range of treadmill on the market. As I set my budget at under £400 this helped me to narrow my searching and leave me with 3 possible treadmills that met my needs, the makes were Pro-form, Weslo, Reebok.
After some head scratching I decided that the 'Reebok I RUN...

Advantages: great entertaining movie Disadvantages: none...unless you don't like blood
...show is The Running Man, which is hosted by Damon Killian, (played by Richard Dawson), this show is a simple format, set a criminal (or a 'runner') loose on the derelict streets of old LA and then send several 'Stalkers' to kill them.. much to the pleasure of the watching audience, who enjoy betting on who will survive.
Meanwhile, whilst on patrol, a helicopter gunship pilot, Ben Richards, (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger), refuses an order to open fire on unarmed civilians during a food riot and is reprimanded, being framed for mass murder and sent to prison, being called by the media 'the butcher of Bakersfield'.
After several month in a high security prison, where they have explosives strapped to their necks to stop them escaping, he and some other manage to escape.
Unfortunately, it is not long before Richards is caught...
Advantages: Builds up stamina, confidence, and can generally keep you busy Disadvantages: Can get boring, difficult to fit in with a busy schedule, and need a well spaced area
...As a regular jogger and runner since late 2004, I've felt like sharing my experiences and tips found over the years.
Tips and Advice
Correct footwear is rather vital to your success as a regular runner. Find some comfortable running shoes and then continue to use them every time. Footwear that rubs or even cause you some pain around your toes or shins, stop using them. Even if they were so expensive and look great, don't bother, go for a pair that you can train with. After all, spectators and people around you won't be staring at your feet when you run by.
I can't stress this enough, but every runner must stretch most areas of their body for at least ten minutes before going out for a run and even afterwards too. A stretched and warmed up body will decrease the chances of you getting injured or even pulling a muscle...
