...was fine, but it was just a little too far. so this time, after a little search, we opted for the Comfort Inn at Pont-A-Mousson, halfway between Metz and Nancy. It seemed a good choice for what we wanted as it was on the access road from the town to the motorway we were traveling on which would mean it'd be easy to find and easy to get back on our travels first thing in the morning.
