Good Base for 'Swanning' around Paris
Advantages: Cheap, central
Disadvantages: Very small and very basic
...Having stayed in some very out of the way places in Rome and Prague this last year, when we were planning our trip to Paris I wanted to make sure we'd be within walking distance of at least some of the main sights and hopefully some bars and restaurants too. I was shocked at the price of hotels though so when scanning through the Superbreak website for the cheapest deals in certain arrondissements , I happened upon the Hotel du Cygne (or The Swan Hotel). A bit more research on Trip Advisor and it seemed this was about the best we were going to get for our budget.
According to the website, the Hotel du Cygne is "part of a restored genuine 17th Century building that is located in the heart of the city, the old and historical section of Paris" furnished with "wooden period furniture carefully gathered from years of going round...

Budget accomodation in a 'lively' area of Paris
Advantages: Well located for the Metro, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit tatty,extremely basic,noisy at night
....
Said bar was actually at the foot of our hotel ‘L’Hôtel du Chat Noir’ (in English ‘The Black Cat hotel'). We looked up at the shabby looking building and shrugged, at £100 for a double room for 3 nights we weren’t expecting the Ritz. Entering the lobby I was reminded of the description given when I booked the rooms through octopus travel: ‘The lobby is very small, consisting of a narrow corridor leading to a small reception desk. There is one lift leading to all floors.’
This is not an inaccurate description, although it fails to capture the innate shabbiness of it all. The bloke at the desk was not unfriendly, however and he handed over our keys to room 79 (yes, on the seventh floor) with politeness considering the late hour. I looked at the stairs with dread but thankfully the man pointed me towards the small lift.
The elevator, like...

BOURJOIS PARIS COUP DE THEATRE MASCARA
Advantages: does not irritate your eyes good for contact wearers
Disadvantages: expensive
...As someone who wears contact lenses, I am constantly on the lookout for a mascara that will not irritate my eyes and until now there was really only one that I could use, that is until yesterday when shopping in Boots I came across Bourjois paris - coup de theatre mascara. I had seen the ads on tv and was intrigued by the two part bottle and especially the white base, although a beautician friend tells me that all good beauticians use a powder base before applying any mascara!( Well if they are so smart why didn't they think of this??) anyway on with the op.
This is a two part mascara, at first you may be fooled into thinking that you are getting quite a lot of mascara for your money as the length of the mascara tube is very long, however remember this mascara comes in two parts and given the price you pay each end of the tube is...

The Marlowe Theatre
Advantages: Great range of shows, nice layout, good facilities
Disadvantages: None
...About The Marlowe Theatre
The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury was redeveloped in 2005 and currently it is spread across three floors. Inside, there are two auditoriums, one of which has 1,200 seats and the other one has around 200 seats. Also inside is a bar on each of the three floors, a café and a hospitality suite.
Where Is The Theatre Located
The Marlowe Theatre is at the lower end of the City centre and is easily accessible whatever you choose at your mode of transport. There are plenty of car parks only a few minutes walk away and there is even a car park behind the theatre. The train and bus stations are also only a 5-7 minute walk away.
What Can You Do At The Marlowe Theatre
There is a large variety of performances held at the Marlowe Theatre and these include plays, concerts, festivals, musicals, dance shows and of course...

A THEATRE WITH A VIEW
Advantages: Open air Theatre does not come any better.
Disadvantages: Those hard seats, do not forget the cushions.
...OPEN AIR THEATRE AT ITS VERY BEST.
The Minack Theatre is located next to Porthcurno Bay which is just off the B3315 between Lands End and Penzance.
For persons like me who do not drive, there are Scheduled Bus Services from Penzance. the 300 and the 1A which both stop in Porthcurno Valley, the theatre is a further 400 meter walk up a steep hill.
For full details of the Events at the Minack and further pictures visit its own web site WWW.MINACK.COM
The Theatre was built, honed out of the rocks by a young woman ROWENA CADE with the only help being from the families gardener.
It is now a 750 seat theatre, staging a wide range of events. Shakespear , what better setting for the Tempest than a cliff side setting.
Opera, Drama, Musicals they are all there.
We have visited the Minack for several Plays...

Canal du Midi
Advantages: architectural wonder
Disadvantages: cost many human lives to build
...The Canal du Midi, is a man dug canal, situated in the south of France, and joins the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean sea, via the Canal Garonne. The water sources which allow the canal to be constantly navigable, come from the Montagne Noire, (situated in the south west of the Massif Central, near Mazamet, in the Tarn area), by three lakes, and the Saint Ferréol dam. This technical challenge, first imagined in 1539, stayed a project on paper for almost a century, until 1636.
¤ø,¸¸,◊,¸¸ ,ø
It was Paul Riquet, an ingenious engineer, born in Béziers in 1604, who started the first portion of the Canal in 1636, under the reign of Louis XIV. The Saint Ferréol dam was built in 1667, and in 1680, the locks at Béziers, called "Les écluses de Fonseranne" were built. Pierre Paul Riquet died that year, and the very first navigation...

Paris, je t'aime
Advantages: Great metro service, beautiful city to explore on foot,
Disadvantages: Perhaps more difficult for disabled people, busy busy busy, lots of sellers and beggars, STRIKES
...with RER links to the centre of Paris and TGV (high speed) trains to take you elsewhere. The RER will have you in the centre of Paris in around 30 minutes. There are, of course, other means of transport which will take you to the centre, including buses and taxis.
~~ If you arrive by Eurostar, you'll find yourself smack bang in the centre of Paris - at Gare du Nord. You're then in the best position to use a multitude of different types of transport to take you to where you're staying - the station is linked to the RER (regional trains), metro and there are buses and taxis just outside.
Once you're in Paris and all settled in, how do you go about seeing everything? There are lots of ways to get around and it's important to think about your constraints - time, money, physical limitations etc. in choosing the best ways for you.
ON FOOT...
