In Dubliners Fair City
Advantages: Good reading
Disadvantages: Using references a fair bit.
...of Joyce's day but branching and blossoming into the world of colonial and post colonial literature".
Joyce was influenced by Ibsen, and would establish for himself in "Dubliners": "even the most commonplace, the deadest among the living, may play a part in a great drama."
Here is an intimately observed portrait of a city and its people at a time of radical social and political change.
He writes in a great deal of commonplace detail, he does not moralise, he seems fascinated by sexual misbehaviour and delights in shocking the pious.
Perhaps every aspect of the city of Dublin is not covered here. There are no accounts of the upper classes and none of the lowest, here are the middle and lower middle class people; clerks, salesmen, journalists, boarding house keepers, political hacks and jobbing musicians. This surely reflects Joyce's own...

IN DUBLIN'S FAIR CITY
Advantages: A wonderful City
Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
...My Mother wasn?t born in Ireland, (like an old song says), but my Grandmother, (my Father's Mother), was born in Dublin. Her Family arrived there in 1493 when they fled Spain during the Spanish Inquisition.
We decided to visit Dublin for a few days. We were going to Israel via Amsterdam and in those days it was cheaper to fly from Amsterdam to Dublin than it was from London. We flew on Aer Lingus for a little over an hour.
Dublin is the capital city of Erin, (the Gaelic name of Ireland). The currency then was the punt or the Irish pound,(they use the Euro now). The official language is Gaelic but English is used as well. Dublin?s population is just under one million people. We stayed at the Drury Court Hotel near St. Stevens Greens the first night and then had to move to the
Fitzwilliam Hotel, (for the next 2 nights). It is near...

In Dublins fair city
Advantages: Plenty to do in friendly surroundings
Disadvantages: Can be expensive
...Being half Irish, as you can imagine, I have been over to Ireland many a time from when I was a baby. Our main stop was always in Dublin, a wonderfully lively place especially suited to young people where there is plenty of nightlife and great shopping. The locals are great - very friendly and always jolly and singing in the pubs. You'll find the atmosphere in any drinking establishment full of fun, and crazy Irish folk!
Apart from shopping during the day, remember that Dublin is right by the sea. If you head towards Black Rock from Dublin City Centre you will pass by The Strand...here is the sea and when the tide is out you can walk out miles! If you're into doing something relaxing and are feeling energetic do go here...it's very calming. But watch out for the tide - it comes in really fast and if you're not careful and not keeping...

In Dublins Fair City...
Advantages: Live music most nights, good atmosphere, easy to find
Disadvantages: very crowded, expensive
...Location:
The Quays is located in Temple Bar which is easiest found off Dame Street, Temple Bar is well signposted as it is a hot spot for tourists and any local shop or Taxi Driver will be able to point you in the right direction....beware when asking that many Dubliners don't have a fondness for temple bar mainly due to the number of druink tourists roaming around. The actual bar is on Temple Bar Sqaure and is quite large with two entrances so you can't miss it just follow the music
Ambiance:
The live music lends a great atmosphere to the pub, it is generally traditional irish music that those of us with Irish heritage probably grew up listening to. There are doormen who are quite strict with ID. the crowd everytime I have been in is very friendly and I have never yet seen any trouble in there
Service:
It can be...

Heart of Dublin
Advantages: welcoming, clean, central
Disadvantages: restaurant price
...As mentioned in my last review, I was recently on a trip to Dublin. The main part of my holiday apart from experiencing the city is to me the accommodation. I have been to many hotels but not all I would return to although I have to say I cannot fault the Jury's Inn Parnell Street. A hotel is of course where I stay and want to be in a good location. I have heard of Jury's Inn's because I know where I live in Edinburgh they have them and I have heard positive things about them.
Only going away for a short break I was looking for something quite cheap but not to the extent of hostel cheap. The rating for this hotel was 3 stars which is what I will always start at and no lower. The website was where I booked it and everything was easy to navigate. Going with friends I wanted a triple and it asks if you want three single beds or a double...

INDULGENCE IN DUBLIN...........
Advantages: Luxurious surroundings.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
...It would appear that the information Ciao has on the header for this hotel is a few years out of date.......
The Westbury is a five star hotel and is part of the Jurys Doyle group of hotels.
It's also one of a select number of hotels within the collection of Leading Hotels of the World.
Jurys Doyle state that they are dedicated to providing prime city centre locations and this hotel is most certainly in a prime central Dublin location - it's yards from the shopping heaven of Grafton Street.

Stay @ the West-in Dublin
Advantages: Luxurious and fantastic service
Disadvantages: Expensive
.... The former famous for it's shopping and the residence of department store Brown Thomas, along with Lillie Bordellos, the most fashionable nightclub in Ireland, and the latter famous for all the pubs and drink fuelled shenanigans.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The History of the Building
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Millions and millions of pounds, and in this case Euros, go into the refurbishment and restoration of individual hotels. You really would be baffled by the figures your hear reported for the refurbishment of hotels all around the globe, with Investment Banks and Venture Capitalists investing heavily for a long-term gain. One hotel in England, I can think of immediately, is currently under-going a £30-£32 Million refurbishment.
The Westin Dublin is one of the most exclusive properties in the city - and indeed Ireland - boasting luxury...

Bewleys Hotel Dublin
Advantages: Near To Airport, Price
Disadvantages: None?
...I stayed at the Bewleys Hotel once before flying out from Dublin Airport, its a great location if you chose to fly from Dublin and live quite far away from it.
The double room we stayed in cost around 69 euros for one night, this is reasonable when you look at it from the point of view that travelling to the airport will be much easier the day after and also that your holiday begins a day earlier by staying there.
The room was clean and tidy and quite modernly decorated, there were two large (well big enough) double beds in the twin room and a small sitting area, the bathroom was clean and had a shower and a bath in it and had a few little treats like shower gel and a small sewing kit in it which I always like when I am staying in a hotel. There was a decent sized tv in the room that had a good range of channels that catered...

Dublin Airport
Advantages: Good Transport Links, Main Airport into Ireland, Easy to find your way around
Disadvantages: Lack of Shops,
...timetables along the side and the buses are fairly regular, the taxi rank is located within walking distance from the exit and also adjacent to the exit is the Air Coach this is how I got from the Airport to my hotel in the City Centre, they are easy to spot as they are right next to the pedestrian crossing as you come out of the arrivals hall.
Air Coach is a luxury coach service that transports passengers from the Airport to the city centre dropping off at popular hotels in Dublin.
I purchased a return ticket from the driver which was 12 euros // £8 for a return journey. Up to 2 children under the age of 12 are carried free if travelling with a paying adult. For more information or to book tickets online visit www.aircoach.ie.
After a pleasurable stay in Dublin and a lot of Guiness later it was time to return to the Airport, we waited...
