IN DUBLIN'S FAIR CITY

Advantages: A wonderful City
Disadvantages: None that I can think of.

...My Mother wasn?t born in Ireland, (like an old song says), but my Grandmother, (my Father's Mother), was born in Dublin. Her Family arrived there in 1493 when they fled Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. We decided to visit Dublin for a few days. We were going to Israel via Amsterdam and in those days it was cheaper to fly from Amsterdam to Dublin than it was from London. We flew on Aer Lingus for a little over an hour. Dublin is the capital city of Erin, (the Gaelic name of Ireland). The currency then was the punt or the Irish pound,(they use the Euro now). The official language is Gaelic but English is used as well. Dublin?s population is just under one million people. We stayed at the Drury Court Hotel near St. Stevens Greens the first night and then had to move to the Fitzwilliam Hotel, (for the next 2 nights). It is near...

Dublin, The Home Of The Black Stuff

Advantages: Great Party Atmospere, Great Guinness, Great Time
Disadvantages: Not for Your "Horlicks, Pipe and Sliper folk

...Every New Years eve i throw a party for all the family and close friends. We fill the table up with buttys and make sure the patio is full of beer and wine, keeping chilled as there is no room in the fridge. Afetr about 23.00, everyone is getting in the party mood and i start my party piece...i play the DJ..as i have been bang into my music since i was 4. Nothing gets the party started more than a few of the oldies...you know...a bit of Frank and Deano, and then by around the 1.30 mark everyone is hooked on my Irish section....if you dont start dancing to The Irish Rover....your probably dead. A weekend in Dublin

Advantages: Friendly, smiley & relaxed people

...Dublin Since I'm here to travel, I thought that I should actually write about travelling instead of eating and drinking. We went to Dublin in January this year, and had a fantastic time. Our flights cost £55 each return (incl. taxes) from Heathrow to Dublin on Aer Lingus. We booked online - www.aerlingus.com. The flights themselves were pretty good, with no delays and friendly service, which makes a pleasant change from Air France. Plus, our bags arrived with us this time (see previous review on Air France). The only thing about Aer Lingus is that you have to pay for the food onboard - the flights are cheap for a reason, but the food onboard is not. However, don't let that put you off - the flight only lasted an hour, so if you can't go without eating or drinking for that long (like the MOTH) then I would recommend taking...

Dublin Weekends

Advantages: Low cost travel there, friendly, party city, speak English
Disadvantages: Sat. night taxis!

...Having visited Dublin about 10 times in the last year ( to see my gorgeous girlfriend) I guess I'm suitably qualified to advise on a Dublin weekend by now. 1. Travel> Boat Unless you live close to Holyhead, get on a plane to Ireland. I have been by boat twice and the cost for one person (sometimes 2 or 3)is more than the plane. Boats take between 1.5-3 hours depending on which one you take. I think Irish Ferries and Stena operate the services, which if you're on a driving holiday is a good option. 1.1 - Travel >Flights Flights to Dublin are my fave option. From Leeds, where I fly, you can go by 1. British European 2. Aer Lingus 3. Ryanair 1&2 are targeted towards the business traveller. In Dublins fair city

Advantages: Plenty to do in friendly surroundings
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...Being half Irish, as you can imagine, I have been over to Ireland many a time from when I was a baby. Our main stop was always in Dublin, a wonderfully lively place especially suited to young people where there is plenty of nightlife and great shopping. The locals are great - very friendly and always jolly and singing in the pubs. You'll find the atmosphere in any drinking establishment full of fun, and crazy Irish folk! Apart from shopping during the day, remember that Dublin is right by the sea. If you head towards Black Rock from Dublin City Centre you will pass by The Strand...here is the sea and when the tide is out you can walk out miles! If you're into doing something relaxing and are feeling energetic do go here...it's very calming. But watch out for the tide - it comes in really fast and if you're not careful and not keeping...

Gay Dublin

Advantages: Friendly, Lots of choice
Disadvantages: Quality of gay accommodation- try out an ordinary hotel to use as a base!

...Ireland and in particular Dublin is changing. No more the backward reserved country it once was it now has some of the best Gay facilities and attractions of anywhere in the UK. Staying In Dublin Dublin has three main gay guest houses. Frankies, The Horse and Carriage and The Inn on the Liffey. All are small and it has to be said not up to the standard of the prices they charge. On the plus side all are central and within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas. If I had to be forced to make a recommendation I would go for Frankies- the cleanest and most friendly of them all. On the plus side for the other two they do have sauna clubs attached, though The Horse and Carriage's sauna could do with a real clean-up. Lovely Dublin

Advantages: Excellent for UK visitors because of the STG difference

...This is a true & accurate review because I live here !!! Dublin is a great spot for anybody - there is so much to see here you could easily spend a week or 2 & not see all the bits. I would always recommend using the public rail system (the DART). It costs about £1.50 for a single ticket & you can start from the City Centre & head out to Howth on the Northside (nice harbour, some pricey but nice restaurants), or you can head southside towards Bray. Plenty of stops along the way :- Sandymount - nice long beach 2 miles from the city - not for swimming but perfect for a nice walk on a sunny day. Blackrock - nice town/village with 2 small shopping centres, plenty of bars & restaurants. A realy nice market on Sat/Sun with loads of unusual stalls Dun Laoghaire - home of the ferry. 2 shopping centres, a few restaurants & bars...

...First of all a disclamer: it's about 18 months since I visited Dublin and this is a very fast changing city, so some things may by now be completely different. Having said that, given that attractions like the Book of Kells have lasted about 800 years, I don't think a few months here or there will make that much difference. My first impressions of Dublin on arrival were that it was both a lot smaller and a lot busier than I had expected. This is a boom town: thanks largely to the peace process Ireland now has the fastest growing economy in Europe and it shows, in everything from the buzz around the bars and clubs to the endless traffic jams as streets built for horses and carts struggle to cope with the ever-increasing numbers of Dubliners who can now afford smart cars.
