Fancy a bit of rough? Dulux weathershield.

Advantages: Water based, easy to use. Covers imperfections.
Disadvantages: Absolutely none.

Dulux Paint Pod roller system

Advantages: A lot less climbing up and down steps to fill roller
Disadvantages: Still got to do a bit of cleaning by hand on roller holder

...I bought the paint pob three weeks ago and have just used it last night. When I bought it I had to buy the paint container which is a special tub made for the pod. The price of that was a bit on the steep side as it is only Dulux paint and nothing special about it. Putting the unit together was quite easy. I decided to go with the instructions on this one because of the different fittings on it. Very little packaging so that was a relief. The parts went together easily enough, when you put the paint pod in you can put it in the wrong way round but when the pipe is placed into the hole in the unit that does not matter, it still works ok. Ready for use now. ...I have just painted the outside of my house with Dulux Weathershield textured masonry paint. This paint contains an acryylic resin which guarantees protection from all types of weather for up to 15 years. It can be bought in 2.5l or 5l tins. Normal price for a 5L tin is £23.99 but it is on offer in June at Focus for 3 tins for the price of 2. It can be used on dry exterior rendering and masonry and even brick and is mould and algae resistant. It comes in a range of colours apart from white. I chose Sandstone. Each 5L tin covers about 45 square metres and is rainproof in 30 minutes - something to consider with the British climate! However, it usually takes about 4 hours to thoroughly dry. Deluxe Dulux

Advantages: Good coverage, nice colours
Disadvantages: none

...I've never used Dulux paint before until this week, mainly because it is more expensive than others, but now I'll never use anything else. I've just painted my living room in Rich Red and it only needed one coat! Admittedly it was going over terracotta so it was the same sort of shade but it wasn't even slightly patchy.I've always used B&Q's own brand before and had to use two or three coats, so although I was saving £4 on the initial cost I was actually using twice as much paint, so it was a false economy.The colour choices are actually better with the Dulux as well. I expect if you were trying to cover a darker shade with something lighter you would need two coats, but it's so much easier to paint with, going on nice and evenly and it's a lovely thick texture. I can't wait to decorate the rest of the house now....

Weathershield - like a shield of steel . .

...OK - before we even mention the actual paint:- Surface preparation, the most important bit:- Make sure all surfaces to be painted are sound, in other words not flaking, all these surfaces must be sanded down, as well as clean and dry. I must also add a little about health & safety, please be aware of the dangers of old lead based paint, this is possibly what you are sanding down. When using on wood, treat all knots with a knotting solution. Apply a decent Wood Primer to all bare surfaces. Prime bare metal with a Metal Primer. Any deep scraches, gouges, holes, or splits must be filled with an appropriate filler or use decorators caulk. Right, that is out of the way, the paint itself is made in Slough by Dulux, an ICI Company. I have only bought it in three quarter litre tins, although I have seen it in much bigger 5 litre...

Dulux more than Once

Advantages: Thick paint that covers well
Disadvantages: Need to use two coats to cover dark paint!

...I bought and used Dulux Once several months ago and on the whole it was a successful DIY job. I'd made a bit of an error in judgement and painted a room dark green. Okay ... I'd made a HUGE error in judgement, but I desperately wanted to get rid of it. Knowing that it would take at least 4 coats of any normal paint to cover up my mistake, I decided to buy Dulux Once as I didn't want to be painting until Hell froze over. The paint itself is VERY thick but I found it quite easy to use with quite good coverage. In the end I did have to do 2 coats, but as the colour I was trying to cover was so much darker than the one I was using to cover it, I don't think it's too much to expect. I don't think I'd use this product again as hopefully I won't need to cover anything disastrous again and it was quite expensive but I do feel I can...
