Dundee the City of Discovery and me
Review of Dundee in General by
KirstyJane
Advantages: Superpricee and I live there
Disadvantages: May not have the biggest and best of everything
...As you may know out there, I'm from Dundee, in Scotland. Actually, you're more likely to know that Richard (superpricee) lives in Dundee as he's forever banging on about it, and surprise surprise, I live there too! We live in different parts of town though - Richard stays in Fintry, and I live in Broughty Ferry, which was once a small fishing village in the good old days but is now suburb of Dundee. The City is the fourth largest in Scotland with a population of about 120,000. There are 2 universities, Dundee Uni. and the University of Abertay (which is a relatively new Uni, having upgraded from being Dundee Institute of Technology about ten years ago) and a college, so there is a substantial student population. I have to say that Dundee city centre has been revamped over the last view years making it quite a pleasant place to be...

Bonnie Dundee (The Road and the Miles to)
Review of Dundee (Scotland) by
raysym
Advantages: I Live There
Disadvantages: I Live There
...the scars and grime that give testament to the industrial history of the city. Fortunately the days of huge factory chimneys belching acrid black smoke are long gone. The City of Dundee is cleaning up its act and its buildings, returning the streets to there former glory. The collapse of the Jute industry and large scale manufacturing in Dundee and the emergenge of the University has brought about a complete reversal in the Industrial landscape of the city. The city now teems with Bio-Science Research companies, Electronic development and manufacturing companies, Computer Software Development companies and that scourge of the 21st century " Call Centres".
The City of Dundee boasts some of the most exciting and vibrant shopping outside the two major cities in Scotland, the city centre has two main shopping malls, The Overgate Centre which...

Why I found Abertay to be an average university.
Review of Abertay University by
georgie
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...After leaving secondary school, I enrolled straight away with the University of Abertay. My first impressions were not good. I found that there was not enough support, particularly for new students, and that there were many bad lecturers. There were many students who were finding the maths course very difficult, however where not given the help they required. The best department in the University of Abertay is the computing one. It is wildly acknowledged that they have some of the best facilities, more computers than most universities, and wider choice of courses in that area. However if your course is not computer related then I would not recommend this university.
The student union is a mess, it is very rarely full, and on the plus side, Dundee has a lot of pubs and clubs to choose from. Overall, Dundee is a nice place...

A gem of the North
Review of Dundee University by
kathl
Advantages: campus based, excellent courses, excellent reputation
Disadvantages: campus is all uphill!
...Dundee University is one of the best in Scotland. It has unique, highly desirable courses such as Law & Accountancy with dual accreditation (the only one on mainland Brirain to do this). The campus is fairly small, although seems to be all uphill & the staff are knowledgeable & very friendly. Dundee city centre is a very short walk from the campus hosting a whole range of pubs, clubs etc. If you like the country life, a half hour's drive takes you to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country with the ski resorts a mere 30 miles away. What more could you ask for? Oh, and it has the highest proportion of mature students in any Uni in Scotland, so we are well catered for & our 'life' experience is really appreciated....

CROC ZIMMER FRAME DUNDEE........
Review of Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles (Wide Screen) by
Broksababie
Advantages: Not many at all!
Disadvantages: Boring, stale and an old Paul Hogan
...Enough is enough…Crocodile Dundee II was really struggling, but 15 years later here comes number three…Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles.
I really didn’t want to go and see this but with nothing better to do and only one film per week at our so called cinema, it seemed better than nothing at the time…not so sure about that now however…
In attempt three, Mick Dundee (Paul Hogan), Hogan is beginning to show the tell tale signs of wear and tear, in fact he looks extremely old and wrinkley..ewww, and these attributes don’t really offer much appeal to his so called hunter role believe me.
His wife, screen partner Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski), however seems to have improved with age, she looks damn good but I have a serious problem with her plummy false voice and it really irritates me every time...

Crocodile Dundee is back and fighting sharks of LA
Review of Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles (Wide Screen) by
kgray71
Advantages: Comedy gags a plenty
Disadvantages: Less Croc and more Private eye
...When I first heard about Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles I got quite excited as I really enjoyed the first two Crocodile Dundee films. However when I first watched this I was quite disappointed but on reflection is not too bad.
The Plot

Mick Dundee and Sue Charlton have been living together in Australia for about ten years and they have a son called Mikey but they are not married. Mick now catches Crocodiles as a tourist attraction along with his Aborigine friends.
Sue is asked by her father to run the Los Angeles newspaper office, which she agrees to and takes the Mick and Mikey with her.
Mick gets a job as an extra for a movie who up to no good and with the help of Sue and Jacko (a fellow Crocodile hunter) they try to uncover what these movie makers are doing.

Invercarse Hotel, Dundee
Review of Best Western Invercarse Hotel, Dundee by
Jean-Anne
Advantages: Friendly, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Creaky corridor floors
...The Invercarse Hotel is situated about 3 miles from Dundee city centre, railway and bus stations in lush landscaped grounds overlooking the River Tay and nearby small Airport. A busy hotel for weddings and functions, the hotel has ample car parking though few are near Reception.
Reception staff were helpfully efficient, checking in and out was not too onerous.
Bedrooms were clean and functional featuring wall mounted flat screen TVs and free WiFi access. Corridor floors were creaky, but on the whole bedrooms were peaceful and quiet. Bathrooms small, plenty hot water though the over-bath shower was difficult to get to temperature. Tap water was warm to drink, but complimentary bottled water was available from the bar.
Dinner was good, a nice and varied menu and helpful knowledgable staff. Breakfast was excellent for carnivores...

Dundee - city of Discovery
Review of Dundee in General by
jennifer.tweedie
Advantages: Better than it was
Disadvantages: Still not somewhere I'd want to spend a lot of time
...Having tried to avoid going to Dundee as much as humanly possible for as long as I can remember I ventured there recently and was pretty surprised by the changes that have taken place.
Last time I went there the shopping centres were grotty, the city uninviting and there was practically nothing to do with the exception of the Rep and visiting the Discovery.
I was impressed however to see the centre of town modernised. New shopping centres boasted lots of great shops (big chains venturing up north - hurray)and lots of landscaping especially around the riverside has improved the city immensely.
Ok so I only spent a few days in Dundee but I found that it seems to be shaking off its image of Aberdeens poorer relative. Apart from shopping it seems as if the entertainment side has kicked off too. A new arts centre and revamped Discovery...

Good HH in Dundee
Review of Hungry Horse Restaurant, The Marmalade Pot, Dundee by
sasha927
Advantages: Good food, good value and good service
Disadvantages: Can be noisy and slow when busy
...With Hungry Horse being a chain of franchises, you can get completely different levels of quality and service in each place. The Hungry Horse in Dundee (aka The Marmalade Pot) has fortunately managed to maintain high levels in each.
Despite being out near the airport, and really needing a car to get to, this restaurant never seems to be completely empty, and when it's busy it gets really busy.
While the child friendly nature of the place is in many ways a good thing, it does mean that at certain times you have to deal with a fair amount of noise. The layout of the place does disperse the worst of it though.
As far as the important part of this particular Hungry Horse goes there is very little to complain about. Here's a breakdown: -
1. The portions are very large. So large that sometimes we cannot even finish them.
2...

Jute, Jam and Journalism
Review of Dundee in General by
polydeuces
Advantages: Vibrant city, lots to do
Disadvantages: Has a number of poor areas
.... It does have a casino complex adjacent to it but the most certain bet is that the Earl Grey is waste of money. Better value are the 3 hotels run by Bett Inns. They have the Invercarse Hotel close to the University and the Woodlands out in Broughty Ferry. A little further out is the Panmure in Monifieth. I have stopped at both the Invercarse and Woodlands and found them to be good value, comfortable and with reasonable menus for dinner. The Woodlands can get a bit busy in the evening particularly when holding rotary nights and similar events.
There are also three Travel Inn lodges including one close to Discovery Quay. The one close to the quay is perfectly placed for the city centre, railway station and Olympia leisure centre. Of the 3 lodges this one inevitably gets full first so if you know you are heading for Dundee book ahead if you want...
