Advantages: Good balance between power and accuracy, large head size and durable.
Disadvantages: Power is limited when compared with other racquets that have a smaller throat.

Joey Dunlop RIP

Advantages: all
Disadvantages: none

...I'm sure all fans of road racing would like to join me in paying tribute to Joey Dunlop. He recently extended his record to 26 wins at the Isle of Man TT before he was tragically killed in a 125 cc Race in Tallin the capital of Estonia. It is not difficult to draw parallels with another legend, the Scottish F1 champion Jim Clark, both men were generous, modest men who achieved success at the highest level, yet were killed in small events they were doing for fun. Joey and Jim rest in peace....

Review of Dunlop 900G

Standard rubber

Advantages: Range of compounds available, good grip in a straight line, cheap
Disadvantages: Poor durability and poor cornering grip

...I've had D208s on two bikes, a Honda VTR1000F Firestorm and a Triumph T595 Daytona. Both had the standard D208, not the RR or the SP versions of the tyre. The Honda came with the Dunlop as standard fitment from new in a 180 section, the Triumph had a 190 section put on briefly as an aftermarket supplied item. The Honda got through three and a half pairs, the Triumph just the one. Before anyone asks why I kept the standard ones there were two reasons, firstly the tyre shop recommended them for the VTR, secondly they never wore out as a pair, the front lasting about 1/3 longer than the rear. I only change brand as a pair and the front was always too good to just bin. For me there are three categories of factors when judging a bike tyre: ------------------------ Cost ------------------------ The Dunlop has a bit of a split...

Review of Dunlop D208 ZR Rear Tires

Great for beginners or professionals.

Advantages: Light, brilliant control, excellent grip, great value.
Disadvantages: Power is only just above average.

.... In this respect Dunlop outdo other leading tennis racket brands. I was in for yet another surprise when i started playing with the racket more. The new semi-concave technology used in the racket's rim makes the sweetspot far bigger. I found that although the power was not huge I hit the sweetspot far more often and the strength of my shots was far more consistent. This racket may not make you a better tennis player but I think it makes it far easier for you to play with variation and flexibility. When I bought the racket it cost only £50 which was brilliant value then and is probably even cheaper now, definitely five stars....

Travelodge - Fort Dunlop, Birmingham

Advantages: Spotlessly clean. Friendly helpful staff.
Disadvantages: In the middle of an industrial park.

...I stayed in a family room at the Fort Dunlop Travelodge with my children. The website warned that there was some noise from the nearby airport. If booked in advance rooms can cost £15.00 or £26.00 depending on the date and location. Booking was simple on line and I ordered breakfast which was discounted by 10%. Normally breakfast costs £7.50 each and two children eat free for each adult. The travelodge is easy to find by following the Fort Dunlop signs. On the way in you pass a shoppers paradise - Fort Retail Park with most of the big stores. There is a large well lit free car park behind the travelodge. The building is in the middle of an industrial estate which is a bit off putting. The staff were friendly and helpful. The family room is ensuite with a very comfortable and clean double bed and a sofa bed that splits into two singles...

Jim Dunlop Tortex Picks (plectrums)

Advantages: Looks, range, durability
Disadvantages: none

...The Jim Dunlop Tortex range is second to none. Let?s start with price, it's not really an issue in this area, I personally pay 50p each for mine. You could probably get them cheaper but to be fair it?s my usual shop so I'm not fussed. Range The Tortex range comes in 8 different colours and gages, each colour corresponding to a gage. The 8 gages/colours are as follows. The measurement is MM. 50-Red, .60-Orange, .73-Yellow, .88-Green, 1.0-Blue, 1.14-Purple, 1.35-Black, 1.5-White. Now the choice of gauge would generally be down to each individual guitar player. But for me personally I have to pledge allegiance to the .73 Yellow pick, for me it's just the right balance between grip when heavy strumming and tone when tremelo picking. If I'm playing a song with lots of strumming I may switch down to the orange .60 to give...

Not For Picking Your Nose

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: None

...Plectrums come in many shapes and sizes and there is no real rights and wrongs as to which one you use, it is down to personal preference. You don't need to have one to play guitar but using one is a dam sight easier on your fingertips. I use several different types of plectrum normally which ever one is closest to me when I pick up my guitar. However when it comes down to my own choice I use a 0.60mm one for guitar and 0.80 for bass, why because the extra rigidity on the 0.80mm ones is better for plucking the thicker strings on the bass. Moving onto the Jim Dunlop NYLON Plectrums they have a couple of noticeable differences from the other plectrums I use some good and some bad........ Firstly they are made from NYLON which is a fairly rigid material in this form but has quite a high degree of flexibility, essential...

Review of Jim Dunlop USA Nylon picks

Calling all guitarists...

Advantages: Unbreakable
Disadvantages: None at all

...This is a review in praise of and recommending Jim Dunlop nylon plectrums. If you are new to playing guitar you may have found that plectrums are one option for striking the strings. You can use your fingers to pluck and strum, and you can even get little finger-picks to go on the ends of your fingers if you are really keen to get a louder and brighter picking sound. It's mainly the rhythm and lead guitarist who will benefit from the use of a plectrum. Classical guitar playing doesn't involve one. If, however, you are one for strumming on a steel string or doing lead breaks, a plectrum has distinct advantages. One is that it is louder. Plectrums get more volume out of a guitar. Another is that you get no wear and tear on your fingers when practising for hour after hour. Not so your poor chord hand, I know... Yet another is...

Review of Jim Dunlop USA Nylon picks

Big Mean and Fun

Advantages: Classic Sound, Built to last forever
Disadvantages: Expensive, Limited use

...Ok, this is probably the best category i could find for this, but its for an original Dunlop CryBaby wah pedal manfactured by JEN in the '70s (i think) Overall, CryBaby Wahs havent changed much since the originals back in the 60s ie VOX,Dunlop, etc as its one of the simplest, but most effective pedals used sparingly. My poor old pedal has been knocking around in poor condition for what feels like a hundred years since i first started playing guitars 15 years ago! I purchased it from a friend for about 5 quid and a bag of jelly babies, and boy am i glad as new ones now cost around 100 GBP. Im writing this after comparing in a shop between mine and a recent model, just to see if there really was much difference.Surprise? almost none, it felt. The Build quality is still rocksolid, diecast box , big sweepable pedal and a totally...
