Recommendation of some Dusseldorf Pubs

...There is a wide selecion of pubs in dusseldorf so I will only recommend a few of the best. To begin with I will recommend a few pubs in the altstadt. The first is McLaughlins Irish Pub. This is widely regarded as the premium Irish pub in Dusseldorf. This is partly because of the wide selsection of nationalities of the pubs customers. it is easy here to walk in and immediatley find someone to talk about, usually in english. The staff here are very friendly, and the owner Tom is alwaays ready to welcome visitors to dusseldorf and give them a few tips of whats on. Every Thursday here is a student night but everyone not just students are welcome, the beer is half price and there is always a great atmosphere. Recommendations on Dusseldorf Resturants

...The standard and price of resturants in dusseldorf varies greatly, so I have decided to split this section in two, with recommendations for business travellers and for those on a tighter budjet. Firstly for business travellers, there are two Italian resturants that i would highly recommend. The first is La Terraza which is located looking over the Konigsalle providing a very nice view. The menu here is some what limited and the food expensive, but the quality and view make this well worth a visit. The second resutrant is Rossini which is located on the tram line number U79 at the stop Nordstrasse. This resturant has a slightly larger menu as well as boasting an excellent wine menu, but again is somewhat expensive. Another premium resturant is Im Schiffchen which is located in the subarb Kaiserswerth which is also on the same tram line...

...Dusseldorf is one of the most attractive and upmarket cities in Germany. Partly this is because of the international makeup of the city. Many firms, in particular Japanese firms have made Dusseldorf their European base, and this toghther with the international Messe(trading fair)provides a very international outlook. Not being able to speak german is not a disadvantage as much as in other german cities, with most people in shops, resturants and civil officals speaking at least passable english. Possibly the two greatest attractions in dusseldorf are the Altstadt(old city) and the Konigssalle, which is one of the premier shopping streets worldwide. The altstadt is a large pedestrian area containing shops, resturants and bars, and is known as the longest bar in the world, with the area covering more than three square kilometers...

Exactly how an airport hotel ought to be

Advantages: So close that you can almost feel the breeze as the planes come in to land
Disadvantages: It's more expensive than the more distant airport hotels

... When is an airport hotel not really an airport hotel? I have spent a stupid amount of time in airport hotels in the past year and have learned that the term 'airport hotel' can be very misleading. Some, like the Sheraton Dusseldorf Airport really are right at the airport whilst many can be a 10-15 minute cab ride away. As for shuttle busses that take you almost an hour to get from the hotel to the airport, there are far too many of those knocking about. My advice - for what it's worth - is to make sure you know exactly what you are getting when you book an airport hotel. A good price can be spoiled by discovering that the shuttle bus only goes once an hour and a taxi can cost you half the room rate just to get there. Ok for one night - but then you want to leave...

Advantages: Close to the main station, impressive entrance hall

...The NH Dusseldorf City is a functional business hotel which is quite close to the Dusseldorf main station. It can easily reached from there by foot or a very short taxi ride. There is also an underground station right in front of the building. The circular, multi storied atrium looks impressive, but doesn't have any cosiness to it. The dusky pink of the walls of the galleries and a huge, pale green glass installation are the main features. Our check-in was not as quick as it could have been if the hotel would have pre-filled the registration form with the data they had. The reception lady was reluctant to permit a late check-out and negotiated our proposed 4pm down to 3pm requesting us to ask the Reception Manager the next day for a permission to stay longer. Disadvantages: Only a bargain if you can find the free shuttle in both directions

...On a trip to Dusseldorf earlier this year, I'd enjoyed the luxury of a night in the Sheraton at Dusseldorf Airport, then taken the train up to Bremen before returning back once again to Dusseldorf. Since I was on my own this time and trying to save a few pennies, I'd resorted to the cheaper but less convenient option of the Holiday Inn Dusseldorf Airport Ratingen. That's quite a mouthful of a name and enough to get me a very patronising lecture from the taxi driver about how flughafen meant airport (like I didn't know - duh) and Ratingen was somewhere else entirely. I'd had a long day and a long train journey and I was feeling snappy "Do you know this hotel or don't you?" I asked as he continued his lecture, and reassured that he did, I shut up and sat back for the 10 minute journey for which he happily charged me a ridiculous 12...

...We recently stayed in the Soret Hotel Dussseldorf and feel that this hotel is worth a mention.After I received the offer from Buzz for a cheap flight we thought that this would be an ideal opportunity to visit friends in Germany..but I still needed to find a hotel..I wanted the weekend to be special so began the search for a five star hotel.The majority were a little too expensive.I then searched the internet for a four star hotel and found the Soret sight.I would normally look for a hotel with a pool.But in Germany they tend to wear very little in the pool! and I think that I am a little too prudish to be bearing all!! A place you'll never get bored in!

Advantages: A huge choice of pubs and restaurants
Disadvantages: Hotels are normally slightly out of town

...Having lived in Dusseldorf for a year, I left completely in love with the city. Not only are the people there extremely friendly, outgoing and helpful but there is so much to do and see. In terms of attractions it may not have as many as other German cities but it definitely still has much to offer. It is situated in North Germany just next to the river Rhine, which offers very reasonably priced river cruises. When i went last year it cost just 12 euros for a trip up to the media harbour, whose modern buildings are amazing and definitely worth seeing. You can however, go as far as Cologne on these cruises. Another famous attraction of this city is the Rheinturm or tower, situated slightly outside of the old town, which is definitely worth going to. For a small fee you can go right up to the viewing platform, 164 metres above the ground...

...Spent one night here at this two star hotel as we flew into Dusseldorf to begin a ten day trip starting on 10 July 2006. We picked up a rental car from the airport. We were lucky to be able to get on-street parking as we pulled up to the hotel. The hotel is somewhat on a side street near a large street but the side street was residential, which probably explained the tight parking situation. We did have to pay the parking machine a few euro's but we did not have any problems parking there overnight. Also in the vicinity are shops that sell stuff of the erotic or adult nature, so its location may not be the best for those with young children or those who may be offended by seeing such things. My wife and I came along with a friend, so the three of us were in a double room. The room had a small foyer-like area with two bedrooms...
