...A short note before I start this op, I may get a bit technical during this op, unfortunately its unavoidable with a unit like this , I will do my best to explain everything in detail and provide a review that will have something for the layman and the geek . DK DivX DVD-339 is one of a new generation of standalone DVD players, it will do everything you expect from a DVD player and if you already have a standalone DVD player and you only intend to play shop bought DVD’s on it then this unit is not for you. ...Having owned a Harman Kardon DVD22 since June 2005 I think that I am well placed to write a review on the unit; but before I talk about the DVD22 I feel that I must give a little background and therefore must go back 1 year, when I had the DVD21 (by the same company). I bought the DVD21 as an ex-demo model in-store for £150.00, within 6 months I had returned the unit as it was making excessive noise when playing disks, the shop that I purchased from took the unit back and it went away for repair, when I received the unit back, the only thing that was left of the unit I purchased was the case, all the innards had been replaced, essentially it was an old case with a brand new interior. That unit lasted another 6 months before going wrong, this time the company swapped it out for the newer DVD22 (although I had to pay another £100). So... Read review

...I've wanted a DVD player that was capable of playing DivX files for a while because of all my anime and por...errr....other video files..., but the players cost more than normal DVD players so resisted for a while. I've seen brands such as KISS and Yamada but later came across this DK Digital DVD-500 DivX DVD player after the prices have dropped. It only cost £41.98 (61.52 Euros) from SVP Communications (AKA Blank Disc Shop). -= The Player =- The player looks sleek with a black and silver design. Black at the front with silver at the top and bottom curving in towards each other at the middle, which I think looks really good. The player itself looks quite durable and the tray isn't flimsy like some I've seen. The LCD display shows the numbers in green and other details such as TRK, DVD, etc in red. ...Woolworth’s Worth It DVD Player Well having completely given up on our Liteon DVD recorder which cost us a fair bit of money but was totally useless at recording anything let alone simply playing a DVD with ease we decided to get a new DVD player. It is usually me that buys these sorts of things and then I have to get my boyfriend to give me half the money. He doesn’t often like spending money without a lot of thought so we end up never really getting anything when he does the shopping!! However imagine my surprise when he walks through the front door holding a Woolworth’s bag containing a brand new DVD player, I really couldn’t believe my eyes! ...Edited 9th March '08 to include pictures - finally got camera working! ~ Philips 3480 DVD Recorder ~ We already have a Philips DVDR70 recorder which I have reviewed. It was the great service we've had from this machine that helped me decide on buying this latest DVD recorder. Our other Philips Recorder is still going and is still being used, but we wanted a couple of other options from our player, and are also very aware that the present recorder was now around 4/5 years old! So we thought it wouldn't hurt to get a back up recorder if the price was right. ...If your looking for a cheap, budget type DVD player, or just want to get in on the DVD market, then I might have got the answer for you. The Dansai DVD player is a player that seems to have been made specifically for Tesco stores up and down the country. I had never heard of Dansai, but my mate had, which was part of the reason I chose the player. I couldn’t really justify spending over £200 on a DVD player when I didn’t have any DVD movies in my video collection, however, I wanted to get on the bandwagon and join the DVD era having watched quite a few DVD’s on other peoples players. So I went searching, hoping to spend below £130. I found the Dansai player for £99 in Tesco’s in Newton Abbot, Devon. ...After all the hype calmed down and so did the prices, I decided it was time for me to go out and buy a DVD player, I choose the Alba DVD113 ----------------------------- MARKET AND PRICE ----------------------------- I purchased this DVD player a few months back at the low price of £40. Despite this however the player has actually been on the market for a couple of years. Now when you consider the extent of DVD players two years ago, basically your looking at a DVD player and nothing more, it lacks the fancy features of the more recent players today and therefore is limited in its capability of playing certain medias. ...As soon as I heard about upscaling DVD players I discovered the Samsung HD860 was one of the latest models (2006). As I had purchased an HD compatible plasma it needed to have the best available source I could afford for the money and at £65 this slim and modern looking player was a bargain. The player will output a normal scart signal (composite or RGB) and via the HDMI lead upscale the signal to either 576p, 720p or 1080i respectively (only with an HD TV). What this means if that the clever chip within the box will take the normal 704x576 pixels of the DVD and increase them to near full hd resolution. The results can be simply stunning on a clean or new DVD, older DVD titles do not benefit as much as they contain more noise which does'nt help with the upscaling process. ...Background Information I had been looking for a DVD player for quite a while, but I wanted the full DVD experience. Not just the great picture quality but the full Dolby 5.1 surround sound. I had also decided to replace my HI-FI system, I did not have the space for both so a Home Theatre System was the answer. Buying a home theatre system I started by looking in the major electrical stores, where I found some nice Sony and Panasonic systems. These systems sounded ok and the picture quality was good, but the small speakers struggled sometimes and the playback of CD's did not sound very good at all. I was going to need a Home Theatre System with a bit more power so I decided to spend a little more cash, after all a good HI-FI system would cost around £800.
