An excellent DVD+- CD-RW

Advantages: High compatibility, fast, easy to install.
Disadvantages: Slower than today's models. Doesn't do dual-layer, no software included.

...I have owned many CD-RW drives, but this was my first DVD+- RW. I am very very pleased with it. This driver reads DVDs at 12x, and Cds at 52x. The Lite On writes DVD+R at 8x, and DVD-R at 4x. This is slower than today's maximum of 16x, but it is certainly not slow! It can write a whole 4.7GB DVD at 8x in 14 minutes. CD-RW speeds go up to 42x. A 700MB cd is done in 3.5 minutes. I have NEVER had a coaster (failed disc) with this DVD-RW in over 90 attempts. This is with the DATAWRITE 4x DVD-R discs (yellow), and with Benq 52x CD-R. This is a testament to the superb Lite-On buffer underrun protection, and the 851S 2MB cache. On purchasing, it is recommended that you update the drive's firmware to support all RW discs. I have change 2 replacement for Hitachi Hard drive. I got fed up, I dicided not to get hitachi anymore. I have move my decision to Western Digital- scorpio 80GB, which I think more reliable, than hitachi. Beside than the Hard disk Issue. Everything incluede the system board and software Issue were all Satisfied. Due to my heavy work load and program, DELL D600 still giving me a best performance than rest. More stable and reliable. The Only best of this laptop is Build-up everything which you need or dont need it. Etc...

THE FAMILY COMPUTER

...So what's it got and is it worth it. My 530 come with Vista Home Basic 32 pre-installed with the option of the Business 32 version for a little extra. It's powered by an IntelCore Due T2050 processor at 1.6GHz with 2MB level 2 cache and 533MHz FSB. The memory let's it down at only 512Mb, which struggles to keep up woth the demand of Vista. The good news is that the memory can be upgraded to up to 2Gb, however we opted to trash Vista in favour of our ol favourite Windows XP Home. Storage is a reasonable 80Gb SATA Hard Disk Drive and a combi DVD/CD RW drive wth double layer capability allows for essential backups, and writing speeds that won't keep you waiting. ...Firstly, this model is a rebadge of a Ricoh MP9060A. This drive is DVD&CD/RW drive, that is the reason on which I bought it. It was only a bit more than a regular CDRW. This drive was recommended in a group test in Personal Computer World. It was the best of the Combo drives. The performance was better than the Ricoh MP9060A, because of a updated firmware. The drive writes CDRs at 6 speed, CDRW at 4 speed. It reads the DVDs at 4 speed, and the CD-ROMS at 24 speed. In my opinion, in terms of reading, you really don't need anymore than a 24 speed, any higher is just to show off. The Drive comes with Audio cables, manuals, and the support posters.
