Cheap and Cheerful
Review of Connect3D Radeon X1950 PRO by
Jammie87
Advantages: Price-Performance Ratio, ATI Drivers, Noise
Disadvantages: Outdated, not DX10,
...The X1950 Pro provides great performance for the price. They can be picked up very cheaply now and will still handle the latest games even if they cant be put on the highest settings. It is also very quiet and not power hungry compared to the latest cards. It runs all DX9 games smoothly alongside the ATI catalyst drivers and is also reasonably overclockable although a new cooler would probably be needed. The 256mb of memory is easily enough for older games but many newer games would benefit from 512mb+. The card is not DX10 which is perhaps a drawback, but DX10 is still not mature and DX9 cards still run everything smoothly and this card is perfect for a smaller and cheaper pc, or for a lan-box....

Yamaha DX-100
Review of Yamaha DX100 by
BigHairyKev
Advantages: Great budget synth.
Disadvantages: Tricky to program.
...Excellent budget version of the infamous Yamaha DX range of synths. It may only have minikeys, and a limited range of sound compared to it's bigger relations, but you get still get some incredible sounds from this little DX-100.
Warm rounded basses, thin string pads and nice smooth solo sounds are all here. Where it really comes into it's own is when you want those harsh sounds to cut through the music like a chainsaw.
You have to have a DX in any synth studio, so why not hunt around for one of these. Believe me, you'l thank me when you start to play it! A little difficult to program, but worth the results.
Polyphony - 8 notes
Oscillators - Compact Digital 4-operator FM synthesizer
Keyboard - 49 minikeys
Memory - 192 presets, 24 user
Cheers, BigHairyKev :)...

Speed, style and Performance
Review of Epson Stylus DX 5000 by
pb2007
Advantages: price, (of both printer and ink), scan and print quality, easy of use, looks
Disadvantages: lack of screen, changing ink (untill you get used to it)
...I bought my Epson DX 5050, (just a darker grey than the DX5000), for just under £50. After reviewing other similar multifunction printers, I settled on this printer for many different reasons. The main being the price of the ink! Another print I had thought to buy would have cost £40 pounds for a full ink set! This was about how much that printer retailed for! Epson, on the other hand sells cartridges for he DX5000 at about £9 a piece, and more importantly, refurbished for about £4! Unlike some lower range competitors, (in a similar price range), the Dx5050 sells cartridges separately, so you can buy new cartridges for only the colours that have run out. The, "Dura Brite ultra" ink, used gives stunning results whether offical ink or not. Unlike other printers it takes less than a minute for a high quality colour printout (5760 x 1440 dpi...

Its a bass monster
Review of Yamaha DX21 by
crustypaul
Advantages: Massive bass. Clanky percussion. Those two presets
Disadvantages: Produces a lot of hiss on the deep bass, a bitch to programme.
...The Yamaha DX21 is a 4 operator FM synth capable of producing bass of almost sumo wrestler proportions. It also excels at mental clanking and digital grinding sounds although these seem to be entirely unpredictable when programming. As with every FM synth trying to learn to programme the DX21 with any kind of skill is the equivalent to putting your brain through a blender. Sounds are built taking the 4 operators (or sinewaves) and using one of 8 different algorythms to patch them together to produce a different waveform. Things start to get a little weird when you end up with a setup such as operator 3 patched into operator 4 which is feeding back on itself whilst running in parellel with operator 2 etc etc. At this point your head starts to melt. Understanding FM synthesis is a bitch but luckily there are thousands of sounds available...

Easy to use digital companion
Review of Kodak EASYSHARE DX3600 by
Heiduli
Advantages: decent quality with video feature
Disadvantages: battery life
...In my experience Kodak DX3600 is a great, easy to use digital camera, which despite of its slightly bulky looks (which may put some people off), is really practical and versatile camera.
I have had mine for about 8 months now, bought it for 199£ from Curry’s, which I thought wasn’t a bad price at that time. Kodak’s direct price was actually higher then (249£).
Kodak’s range of digital cameras is obviously extensive, and even when I bought DX3600, there were others with more sleek and slim look, such as LS420, which has similar functions and price to DX3600. One of the deciding factors in my case though was the ability to shoot video, and for the camera to have a zoom lens. Only DX3600 in this price range (around 200£) had both capabilities, and I have found both features really useful, although the video...

Wait a while before spending your money.
Review of EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS by
Xlixen
Advantages: DirectX-10 Support, SLI Enabled, Perfect for Vista.
Disadvantages: Expensive, DX10 Still untested.
...in a silent pc!
This card isn't cheap either. At around £300, you could get a much cheaper DX9 card, or have two in SLI. The GTS gives about the same rate of performance in DX9, but its selling point is the DX10 capabilities, which thus far, remain untested. In DX9 games, it performs to about the same level as any high-end DX9 card would. So if you are looking for a good card to play games such as Half-Life 2, Supreme Commander, Bettlefield 2142 etc, I suggest getting an ATI Radeon X1950XT as they are very cheap at the moment, and perform very well.
If you are adamant on getting one of the new DX10 cards (8800's), I suggest you should go for a 320mb version, which cost around £200. They handle resolutions up to 1680x1050 very well, only struggling at the high resolutions.
The EVGA e-geforce 8800's are competitively priced, and with a 10-year...

Kodak DX3215 - it's so simple to use
Review of Kodak EasyShare DX 3215 by
aik4on
Advantages: Easy to use, great docking station and PC transfer
Disadvantages: Average quality results and poor flash
...I have a Kodak DX3215 which I use regularly to photograph items that I sell on e-bay and other online auction sites.
The great benefit of this camera is that it is so easy to transfer images from the camera straight to your PC through the handy docking station which came with it . No fuss, no hassle, just place the camera in the dock and the pictures are zapped to your PC straight away. For a technophobe like me, that's a real boon.
It's also great for snaps in bright conditions, preferably out of doors. The macro function for taking crystal clear close-up shots is a real winner.
The disadvantages of the camera include a very poor flash mechanism which lead to variable picture quality results. Also, although it is a small irritation, there's no lens cover cap and no way to fit one, leading to difficulties in keeping it clean...

It may be big but its a beast of a graphics card!
Review of XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX Version by
DireWolf247
Advantages: DX10 capable, very powerful, a lot of Vram,
Disadvantages: Bit pricy, consumes a lot of power, is incompatiable with older games
...This has to be easily the best graphics card i have ever owned.
Ok i will have to honest, im not a huge fan of Nvidia but because ATI hadn t released anything which was DX10 quality i thought i would try for it and what a wonderful pick.
So far with all the games that i have bought it has worked perfectly with and i am able to max out the graphics, even things like Bioshock i could put everything to maximum and there wasnt even a slight bit of lag.
As you know the graphics card is arguably the best DX10 graphics card out on the market, however at the moment we find that there isnt many complete DX10 games out which means it is a bit ahead of its time, however now would be a great time to getting it with Crysis just around the corner.
Also with this card you can also think of the future as it does work in SLI (assuming your...

Perfect starter's camera
Review of Kodak EASYSHARE DX3500 by
jcakoh
Advantages: Very light and durable, easy to use, decent quality and cheap!
Disadvantages: A little slow, no zoom and poor indoor picture quality.
...The Kodak DX3500 is cheap, easy to use and of decent quality but a little too simple for those wanting higher quality.
It doesn't have zoom and it's focussing capability isn't great.
It's biggest strength is that you won't be afraid to throw it around because it is cheap, very light and very durable in build. I went hiking with it for a month.
It takes fantastic outdoor pictures but has unreliable focus indoors. It's battery life is decent but not great. You need rechargable AA batteries for it which don't last long if you're using the screen a lot but because they're AA batteries you can carry a lot around with you. I carried 8 pairs of batteries to last me a month.
Kodak doesn't offer the best quality but they do offer excellent value and decent quality.
The DX 3500 is perfect for anyone wanting their first digital camera...
