Whatever happened to Dyson?
Review of Dyson DC 05 Absol.tur by
mobabs
Advantages: Very little
Disadvantages: Ugly & cumbersome
...We'd had an upright Dyson for some years and had been very pleased with it, so when it finally died another Dyson was on the cards.
Our new Dyson
=
My sister came home with our new Dyson DC05M/HD and on unpacking it my reactions were, "Oh no! It's not an upright" and then "What an awful colour" Green and Purple! eurghhh! Because of our past experience with a Dyson I decided to forgive the ugliness of it :O)
Unpacking
The large box seemed to be filled with bits and bobs and, unlike an upright, it needed a bit of reading to find out what did what. Having sorted out the various pieces we tried each of the two head out and decided that we would need to use the head that was for extra powerful suction for anything close to the suction we had become accustomed to. This head was rather large and, I felt, would...

DC05 Motorhead is superb
Review of Dyson DC05 by
ChrisMartin
Advantages: superb product, does the job well. Cheaper to buy online.
Disadvantages: More expensive than other cleaners (but worth the money).
...Our old DC02 was getting a bit tired after coping successfully for 5 years in our busy household. None of our previous cleaners had lasted more than 2 years, so it was back to Dyson again. I took the plunge and bought the top of the range DC05 motorhead (£269.99 from www.freenet.ltd - £314 in the shops). Easy, clear set up instructions, fantastic to use - I didn't realise how much Dysons had improved in 5 years. The motorised brush bar really got the dust out of my carpets, they look like new. It picked up every hair from my daughter's bedroom - a miracle which no cleaner has been able to match. Its light, easy to use, follows you upstairs (great in my 3 storey house). The brushbar can be set to slow for grooming in dry cleaning powder (supplied with the cleaner). This works well, obviously not as good as shampooing, but its a lot...

A Catalogue of Disasters
Review of Dyson DC05 by
Marmosette
Advantages: Good design
Disadvantages: Poor service when things go wrong
...My Dyson DC05 Turbohead has been a nightmare from start to finish. The first one which came was badly cracked on the see-through part of the casing (which made me wonder just how durable the Dysons are). As the cracking had not happened in transit in the box (the pieces were not in the box) I was not reassured as to Dyson's quality control.
The motorhead - which is excellent when it's working - soon failed to connect properly when I was using a 'raking' motion (necessary for carpets which have a 'grain') and sometimes even came right off.
The engineer came out, 'solved' the problem and off I went again - until the next time.
This has continued for about nine months. During this time the engineer has made four visits and I have been sent three parts (sometimes Dyson think that the problem can be solved without an engineer visit...

Dyson Sucks - a lot
Review of Dyson DC05 by
Assgirl
Advantages: Really works well, and you can see the results
Disadvantages: loud
...The old Hoover finally gave up the ghost and I bought a Dyson DC05 Absolute + Turbobrush. Wow, what a difference. After a couple of strokes over the carpet with the turbobrush, I realised just how pathetic my old vacuum cleaner had been. The clear plastic dust bin was rapidly filling up - particularly with hairs. It's good to be able to see the results. Now I can prove to my husband that he really is losing his hair!
It's fairly loud and I can't always hear the telephone ringing, but I can put up with that for the great results. Emptying the clear bin is somewhat disgusting, particularly when it seems to stick inside requiring manual intervention. Always hold your breath before doing this! The exhaust air seems to be clean and doesn't smell.
It's easy to lug around the house, and follows you as you move. All in all, well worth...

What a Sucker
Review of Dyson DC05 by
dibalmond
Advantages: Sucks up the muck and easy to use.
Disadvantages: Needs emptying more often.
...I have just bought a Dyson DC05 Absolute with the Turbo Brush. The advert said it was the most powerful cylinder vacuum with no loss of suction and I can honestly say that it is the best vacuum I have ever used.
Usually when I do my bedroom I have to get down on my hands and knees with my rubber gloves to get all the fluff, dust, talcum powder etc from the edges of my carpet. I used my new Dyson and the Turbo Brush got all the muck up even from along the edges and the corners. I was amazed and so pleased because my knees aren’t as good as they used to be.
My old Dyson was the first cylinder yellow and grey one, this one is lilac and green, not really my choice of colour. The new one is a lot smaller in comparison and I was a bit worried that it would not be as powerful, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. It says...

GREAT SUCTION!
Review of Dyson DC05 by
kellyv43
Advantages: Great suction, no bags
Disadvantages: none
...It is now almost exactly a year since we brought our Dyson DC05 vacuum cleaner. We got it just before Christmas last year and it is great. We had chosen to get one of these after a recommendation from a friend who had recently brought one. We went to argos to buy it, but they are also available from many other electrical shops and even some supermarkets sell them. There were a number of different ones to choose from. They have upright vacuums and ones in various colours, but we decided on the dyson DC05 because it would be easy to move around and for doing the stairs. It cost £199 and it is grey and yellow. As you would expect, it comes in a very big box with a picture of the dyson on it. On the box and on the information booklet included inside it tells you about the features of the dyson DC05. These are

cord rewind...

Dyson a problem?..here's the Miele Solution
Review of Miele Solution HEPA 5000 by
cootuk
Advantages: Miele quality and longevity
Disadvantages: Price
...I originally bought into the Dyson story, though have never been greatly impressed by my DC05. The build quality appears lacking with the hose connectors being rather fragile imho, and cleaning power not being too great.
I already have a Miele washing machine and can vouch for the quality engineering in that. I therefore decided to replace my decrepid DC05 with a Miele. Miele have recently revamped their range with a higher power motor (up to 2200W). Being a man I'm all for extra horsepower! The new models are slowly starting to appear on the shop floor (mine was from John Lewis).
The Miele range seems quite confusing in terms of specs until you realise it is all based on a few things.
1) Power
2) Colour of unit
3) air filter (Hepa, S-class etc)
4) number of accessories included.
Some models allow you to upgrade the air filter up...

The Best Suck Around
Review of Dyson DC05 by
leematthews
Advantages: Bagless, everlasting, cheap to run, small...
Disadvantages: Heavy, gets full quickly
...The DC05 is the latest addition to the Dyson range, and is a hybrid between an upright cleaner and a hand held. This innovative design combined the famous dual cyclone technology (see below) means effortless cleaning, as I will now explain further….
~THE DESIGN~
The Hoover is designed to ‘hug’ stairs, and is shaped like an upside down ‘L’, which means it is easier to clean the stairs, and it also has wheels for normal flat floor use. There are 6 colour options to choose from, yellow and grey, green and grey, purple, yellow and grey, red and purple, green and purple and grey and purple. Each has a clear cylinder, with a coloured centre, and a long hose, rather than a Hoover that you push along. The clear cylinder ‘bag/bin’ is useful so as you can see when the dyson needs emptying, or where...

Sucks, but in a good way!
Review of Dyson DC05 by
lfh001
Advantages: Excellent suction, no bags, easy to clean filters, good on stairs
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, several problems with parts
...I bought the Dyson DC05 about three years ago now, having heard glowing recommendations from friends and family.
I found it to be excellent in terms of picking up pet hairs (we have three cats) and easy cleaning of a fully (barring kitchen and utility) carpeted home.
I haven't had to use the manual much, but did read through it when I first bought the machine. I didn't find any problems with it, and it is clear in terms of what must be done for maintenance, and gives good contact numbers if you have any problems.
The filters are easy to clean (so no extras to buy) and like all Dysons (I believe) it's bagless.
Bagless has its advantages - obviously no bags to buy or change - and disadvantages - you have to clean the plastic collection bin, and it does have some quite awkward nooks and crannies to get into. Personally, I do like...

Absolutely great!
Review of Dyson DC05 by
caileag
Advantages: Efficiency, filtration
Disadvantages: initial cost
...As my parents have had a Dyson for many years, I decided that, when my current cleaner began to spit out rather than suck in, I would treat myself to a Dyson. As I have a mixture of floorings to cope with, I chose the newish DC05 Absolute with turbobrush. This is basically a cylinder cleaner with extra filters and a swappable rotary brush, which makes it, effectively, into an upright. The first time I used the cleaner, I was horrified at what collected in the clear hopper (like all Dysons, there are no bags, just a washable bin) I try to keep the place clean, but it was amazing what my cleaner must have been missing! The filtration system is so efficent, you can feel that the air is clean too, you don't get that dusty smell you find after using a 'bagged' cleaner. I am allergic to house dust but have had no problems at all since I got...
