Dyson DC05

Advantages: powerful, light
Disadvantages: filter needs cleaning every few months

...I was always a bit sceptical about the claims about Dyson's, until I used my mum's. I'm now a convert. I bought this one as it fitted under the stairs. Although its bright yellow colour almost made me think twice. Powerful and with no bags to change it make the job a lot easier. The fact I had to empty the dust container three times the first time I used it to hover my house (now I only need to empty it once every other time) shows what my old vacuum had left behind. The small tools are also good but they are best kept in a draw rather than attached to the vacuum so they don't get in the way. The dust container is quite small so anyone with a large house or with pets that shed hair everywhere this may not be the best Dyson to go for. Dyson DC05 with Turbo Brush

Advantages: Great suction, funky looks, filters...the list is endless!
Disadvantages: Bagless, so despite all the filters, you have to face a lot of dust when emptying it.

..., you can easily see it and remove it. A real downer though is having to empty the cylinder......this is when having the allergy filter makes not the slightest difference and dust escapes uncontrollably, so beware if allergy is a problem for you... I use the dyson to vacuum my mattress and although I used to have to do it every week or I would be sneezing my way through the mornings, I can now get away with once a fortnight or even less often :) The turbo brush seems amazing, but definitely the kind of thing you'd keep away from kids' fingers. The hose doesn't look as sturdy as I'd like, and I'm hoping all the little clips around the connectors aren't too easy to break. DC05 Motorhead is superb

Advantages: superb product, does the job well. Cheaper to buy online.
Disadvantages: More expensive than other cleaners (but worth the money).

...Our old DC02 was getting a bit tired after coping successfully for 5 years in our busy household. None of our previous cleaners had lasted more than 2 years, so it was back to Dyson again. I took the plunge and bought the top of the range DC05 motorhead (£269.99 from www.freenet.ltd - £314 in the shops). Easy, clear set up instructions, fantastic to use - I didn't realise how much Dysons had improved in 5 years. The motorised brush bar really got the dust out of my carpets, they look like new. It picked up every hair from my daughter's bedroom - a miracle which no cleaner has been able to match. Its light, easy to use, follows you upstairs (great in my 3 storey house). Dynamic Dyson Does a Dynanite Job

Advantages: Power, suction, easy to use, compact
Disadvantages: Some people may find it a little heavy and cumbersome

...You haven't vacced until you've used a Dyson! What can be said about the Dyson? It's simply a genius cleaning machine. Forget vacumn bags, dusty mess when you change them, hauling a heavy cleaner up the stairs and trying to balance it on one step while you vac another. The Dyson has everything to make your life much easier. Firstly it's appearance might put you off. It looks like something a 5-year old would build out of lego (something I probably did myself). In bright yellow and grey or purple and lime (like mine) it's a bit of a monster to look at. But is that important? Not really. The function of the thing is what counts. That is after all what you'll be spending your money on, a cleaner that does a good job, not something that looks pretty sitting in a cupboard under the stairs. Very good, cheap, reliable vacuum cleaner.

Advantages: Cheap, powerful suction, reliable.
Disadvantages: Noisy.

...I bought my Dyson DC05, six years ago and have to say it has been a great purchase. I use it on carpets, laminate flooring and the furniture, and it has always done a great job. The suction is a powerful as I could imagine I'd ever need, the Dyson has always performed well in whatever vacuuming task I've given it from general cleaning (household dust and dirt), to broken drinks glasses, to decorating mess (plaster, flakes of old paint, sawdust, metal filings), it has completed them all without any problem. The Dyson has been reliable, I have never had a single problem with it, all the parts seem robust enough withstand the usual knocks and scrapes during cleaning. ...It is now almost exactly a year since we brought our Dyson DC05 vacuum cleaner. We got it just before Christmas last year and it is great. We had chosen to get one of these after a recommendation from a friend who had recently brought one. We went to argos to buy it, but they are also available from many other electrical shops and even some supermarkets sell them. There were a number of different ones to choose from. They have upright vacuums and ones in various colours, but we decided on the dyson DC05 because it would be easy to move around and for doing the stairs. It cost £199 and it is grey and yellow. Advantages: Lightweight, no bags or filters to buy EVER, HEPA filtration means only clean air comes out, and a mega dirt sucker upper on carpet or hard floors, incl pet hair

Dyson Sucks - a lot

Advantages: Really works well, and you can see the results

...The old Hoover finally gave up the ghost and I bought a Dyson DC05 Absolute + Turbobrush. Wow, what a difference. After a couple of strokes over the carpet with the turbobrush, I realised just how pathetic my old vacuum cleaner had been. The clear plastic dust bin was rapidly filling up - particularly with hairs.It's good to be able to see the results. Now I can prove to my husband that he really is losing his hair! It's fairly loud and I can't always hear the telephone ringing, but I can put up with that for the great results. Emptying the clear bin is somewhat disgusting, particularly when it seems to stick inside requiring manual intervention. Always hold your breath before doing this! The exhaust air seems to be clean and doesn't smell. It's easy to lug around the house, and follows you as you move. All in all, well worth...

More suction than me!

Advantages: Compact, sturdy, no need for bags/filters, excellent suction
Disadvantages: Small attachments get in your way, plastic parts on tubes break easily, won't sit on stairs

...I'd heard all about Dyson vacum cleaners, they're stuffed into almost every ad break I've actually sat through, and they did sound good, but I'm fairly immune to manufacturers' wild claims about their products (although I have a bypass system for products involving bras which make boobs look bigger, and jeans which make bums look smaller!). Anyway, perhaps I'd better get back on the subject in hand..........! The model I have comes in five different colour schemes - grey and yellow, grey purple and yellow, grey and green, purple and green or purple and reddish-pink.
