Olympus EVOLT E-410. A little SLR for a little price

Advantages: Small, Light, Inexpensive, Easy menus and options
Disadvantages: Manual/Auto focus switching is awkward and can not accommodate macro rings

...One of the first things you notice about the Olympus E-410 is that it is not much bigger or heavier than some zoom cameras, being dwarfed by the Canon EOS 50D that I have purchased since. The body measures 130mm x 91mm x 53mm and wieghs in at around 420g (including battery), making it the smallest, lightest digital SLR at the time of release. Olympus E410 at their best, as usual

Advantages: weight, all the cables you need, battery life, lenses quality
Disadvantages: editing software needs to be purchased

...want to do with them. If is just for small screen TV?s or your laptop/desktop and you don?t want to spend a little fortune on editing software, keep on Jpeg format and SHQ will make wonders. If by the other hand, you are like me a photomaniac you want the best from your E-410 and you will go for the RAW format. The software that comes with the camera is reasonable but can?t understand why I have to pay for Olympus product. Other excellent packages are available with better quality and for the same price (i.e. ACDsee). If you decide to purchase this kind of software, make sure it recognizes ORF extension as not all of them it will. This is definitely a down side for this product. The colour display on the back gives you what you will get on the card but obviously in a lower definition, don?t you worry if you can?t se the photo very clear, it...

The Olympus E410 is my ideal camera.

Advantages: Light weight for a dSLR; excellent image quality.
Disadvantages: Fiddly to operate while wearing mountaineering gloves!

...I've owned an Olympus E410 for a year now. When I got it I was very impressed with the compact size, light weight and capabilities. I found it easy to use, straight out of the box, for taking basic shots. Sometimes I got stuck in the menus when trying to do something different, and had to refer to the printed guide book, finding it easy to find the relevant information. Later, I sat down down and read through the manual with the camera in hand, soon getting to grips with all the features I wanted to use. Connecting the camera to my laptop via the bundled Olympus Master software, I was pleased to see the greatly improved clarity of enlargements over ones from my already good Olympus compact digital camera. The OLYMPUS E410 is A pleasure to use

Advantages: Lightweight , fun to use , Great Picture quality , endless range of functions , well priced
Disadvantages: Can Take a While to understand all of the functions

...After using a compact digital cameras for a 5 years, I decided to update to a more professional slr camera for college, and while looking around, the OLYMPUS E410 certainly stood out for me. It is very light weight compared to all the other SLR's and a pleasure to use , as well as being comfortable to hold , unlike some of the more bulky SLR's. Upgrading from a compact digital camera to the E410 has been much easier , down to the "Live Function" that this camera has, so you can take shots through the LCD Screen , instead of just the view finder , which is an uncommon feature for allot of SLR cameras ,and is also very useful. It also has plenty of functions and scene's, From "Low and High Key", "to Candle scene", even settings to take pictures of documents. i feel it was a great investment and would certainly recomend this...

As a keen amateur photographer and having just returned from a three day photography course using the Olympus E-410 I thought it would be a perfect time to write about it whilst it is still fresh in my mind. A410: I'd use it again

Advantages: Decent quality for a 3mp camera, reasonable feature set, very cheap second-hand
Disadvantages: No manual controls, max ISO only 200, poor movie mode

...The Canon PowerShot A410 is perhaps not a camera you would consider nowadays, seeing as it has a resolution of a mere 3.2 megapixels, and in any case the A4xx range is already up to A480! However, if you can find one going cheap - I was lucky enough to grab one from the small ads for a tenner - you might be surprised at how capable it still actually is. It takes two AA batteries and SD memory cards, so neither of those essentials will break the bank. Do use high-capacity NimH rechargeables, though, as alkalines don't last very long! The A410 is quite small, if not down in the ultra-compact end of the market. However, it is not particularly slim, so is not really a camera to slip unobtrusively into a trouser pocket or small bag. Advantages: sleek design, very easy to operate, tough
Disadvantages: battery life, response time

..., and also good for taking close, detailed pictures if you have the patience to get it to focus properly. However, when taking pictures of a long distance, e.g. a landscape shot it does not focus with as much sharpness as I would like. It also finds it difficult to focus properly in low light conditions, although I don't know if this is a problem common with all cameras or not. The battery life of this model is about average, lasts for about 100 shots in my experience, with a bit of spare life for viewing pictures inbetween taking shots. I also like the way one can view the pictures taken without activating the camera lens, just pressing one button to view the memory card's contents. The remote control that came with the camera I thought was a stroke of genius, I never imagined such a relatively cheap camera would come with something so fancy...
