Review of Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 / 2 GHz processor

Good value for money

Advantages: Cheap, silent, easy to overclock
Disadvantages: Heatsink can be a bit fiddlly to install

...With the right motherboard this cpu can be overclocked to 3 GHZ with no problem. Even on a cheap motherboard (abit ip95)i have overclocked to 2.2GHz just by raising the fsb by 10% The processor is excellent for anyone building a cheap HTPC teamed up with 1GB DDR/DDR2 ram and a cheap pci graphics card this will run windows vista ultimate with ease. The dual core enables you to run multi applications without any slow down of the pc. It is nearly silent with the supplied fan and heatsink and even overclocked it run cooler than my previous cpu (pentuim 4 2.8) I have benchmarked this processor against a E4300 and can see no difference in performance in everyday use. Installation couldn't be easier altought the clips on the the heatsink can be a bit fiddly....

Gigabyte GA 945GCM S2C

Advantages: Cheap, Powerfull, easy to install
Disadvantages: Not for gamers!

...This is a good little motherboard for its low price. I am currently using it to write this review. I also have an Intel E2180 Pentium Dual core CPU set up and overclocking it was so easy. The board itself was so cheap that i wasn't sure if it would be up to scratch for my new build computer, but it surprised me! The Instruction manual was easy to follow and had screen shots of everything needed. The Setup disk was also detailed in the manual and was also easy to follow. As previously stated, This motherboard is easy to overclock using the CPU i have. All the BIOS options are available to gain maximum performance for all components. The manual also listed all the supported CPU's and also had screen shots of the BIOS which were helpful. If you are looking for a cheap motherboard for a dual core Intel CPU then this is brilliant!...

Review of Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2C - motherboard - micro ATX - i945GC

Good board and great for overclocking

Advantages: Pretty intuitive BIOS, good overclocking facilities, very in-depth manual
Disadvantages: Some people have had memory issues with this board

...motherboard was very thorough and described every part of the mothebroard and how to use it. About half of the manual is also dedicated to the BIOS and shows how to set the memory timings correctly and even how to overclock the processor or memory, should you want to. WHilst it wasn't actually in colour, it didn't really need to be as all the diagrams were pretty clear anyway. As far as this board goes for standard use, it's great. Everything works as it should do and I had no problems with stability or memory compatibility. I did, however, have some issues with overclocking which were resolved when I read the BIOS more thoroughly. See I currently have an E2180 in it with an aftermarket cooler running at 3.5Ghz (1400FSB, stock speed is 2Ghz), and it works fine now I've properly set the memory multiplier and the voltages.
