Ealing Balti House - a Delightful Find Near Home

Advantages: Friendly efficient service, food adjusted to customers taste when necessary
Disadvantages: Not as busy as it could be

...Ealing Balti House is a delightful little Indian restaurant located in West Ealing which has been in operation since 1996. West Ealing is in West London and it?s not exactly one of the nicer parts of Ealing which is a shame as this restaurant gets easily overlooked when people think about dining in the Ealing area. My husband and I found this restaurant quite by chance a few years ago as it?s walking distance from our home. We were somewhat surprised to notice it as we thought we?d tried out all of the Indian restaurants in the Ealing area over the years. Unfortunately it?s not in the best location in Ealing, it?s on the main road of the West Ealing shopping area but it?s right at the end so it?s easily missed as it?s opposite the local Kwik Fit and parking is only available on the single yellow lines outside the restaurant or across...

A GOOD EXAMPLE OF IGNORING FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Advantages: Superb location, reasonable prices, high speed wireless and wired internet throughout, on-site parking
Disadvantages: Looks quite grotty from the outside

...**** See update at end Where possible, when travelling to London, I try to avoid staying, but there are occasions when I can't. Preferring to use the car rather than the train, I tend to elect to stay on the outskirts and take the train in, although having used a hotel in Harrow, this time I wanted something different! Hotels in the price / location category with the words "decent" and "affordable" usable at the same time are relatively few and far between. ***LOCATION*** Easily accessible from the M4 & M1 motorways, the hotel is situated on the edge of Ealing Common, and is about 2 minutes walking from Ealing Common Tube station. The hotel has ample on-site free parking with a rear entrance to the hotel reception, saves you traipsing around the street with your luggage. You would be forgiven if your first assumption...

LONDON'S CALLING

Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room

...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29) Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

Lanterns, Taverns & barely edible food....

Advantages: Very Well Priced for London !
Disadvantages: Read on.....

...The Lantern Taverna 5 Grosvenor Parade, Uxbridge Rd, Ealing Common, London. W5 3NN. I know this may just come as a bit of a shock to some of you, but there are some themes I haven't tried out before when it comes to restaurants and cuisine. I am actually quite a fussy eater and this previously restricted me to where I would venture for food when I was a little younger. Now I am a little more open minded and willing to try new things <school girl giggle> but the boat hasn't been pushed that far out that I can't see the shore line, so I am still paddling around and holding the boat in the shallow water. Step-by-Step. The latest such bold step into the unknown, was the magical world of a Cypriot restaurant in Ealing Common Londinium. Anyway, the review? I was in London for business during the middle of last week for 3...

Pack 'em in 'luxury' gym

Advantages: good facilities
Disadvantages: expensive and far too busy, when I went at least

...I don?t actually belong to Ealing Holmes place, I?m a member of a central London branch near my place of work, but had a few guest passes spare and this is the nearest one to where I live so went along this afternoon. I realised on arrival that I had forgotten my padlock and asked at the reception if I could borrow one. This request was granted, without be told I had to buy a new one, which I have experienced before. However, being blonde I couldn?t work out how to do the combination straight away and didn?t quite hear the numbers the receptionist gave me as the code. She at this point was complaining to her colleague about shift changes, so I waited patiently for five minutes or so. Eventually I was forced to ask again and was met with an irritated tut and sigh, before I got the reluctant explanation. Hey I can?t help being stupid...

LUXURY IN LONDON!

Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!

...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go. One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had. Getting to the hotel We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

Stranded in London!

Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey

..." - the inner courtyard of the hotel with the humming air conditioners at the bottom. I can live (or sleep) with that, but there was also an awful rattling, like pipes, coming from somewhere in the ceiling. We went back downstairs to complain, and were told there were no other rooms. After standing our ground they eventually checked us in to an alternative room on the 4th floor. A little bigger, but still not brilliant - probably "average", from past business stays down in London hotels. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly, as other reviews have mentioned. Despite being "club" rooms, all that appeared to be different was the decor. Instead of old-fashioned wall-to-wall flowerey decor and furnishings, it was plain duck-egg walls, and a "modern" bed (faux-leather headboard and plain brown and green blankets). Not worth the extra money...

London Underground

Advantages: Convenient method of transport, frequent trains, Easy to get around
Disadvantages: Signal Failures, Broken Trains and Heat!

...the line had to be shelved with the onset of the Second World War, but after the war was over the line was further extended to Ealing Broadway, Leytonstone and Epping. ○ Fact: The Central Line carries in excess of 183.5 million people each year. The Central Line is definitely one of my favourite lines, the trains are light and airy and there seems to be a lot of room on them. The Central Line underwent a major renovation project a number of years ago and this has dramatically improved the service and passenger experience. In fact, the longest possible journey on the London Underground without changing trains can be made on the Central Line, a distance of 34.1 miles between West Ruislip and Epping. The Central Line is also home to Chancery lane Station which has the shortest escalator on the network with only 50 steps. ○...

The Tower of London

Advantages: Full of History, great tours, Crown Jewels
Disadvantages: None

...This past weekend we had an American colleague of ours come to London for the first time so my husband and I (we work at the same company) decided to take her around sightseeing and show her some of London. As we work quite near the Tower of London and both hadn't been here since we were kids we decided to make it our first port of call. The Tower of London is situated right on the River Thames in the borough district of Tower Hamlets with the closest tube station being Tower Hill on the Circle and District Line. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 originally intended as a Royal Palace. It was then used as a prison with a great number of very famous prisoners, mostly kings and queens of England and the various wives of Henry the 8th. This is where the phrase "sent to the tower" comes from in terms of being sent to prison...

London

Advantages: Education
Disadvantages: Exspensive City Accommodation

...We arrived at London St Pancras and for a split second we questioned ourselves, is this actually St Pancras. The train came to a standstill. Immediately we were overwhelmed with the swish new surroundings and by the grandeur of a once, shadowy and very old tarnished rail station; St Pancras had been transformed. This State of the art new construction towered over us and blended in perfect with the old structure. St Pancras had become another world of unrecognizable architecture; it had been modernized and instantly brought into the 20th century, though still retaining the original character of old. We boarded our underground train, the northern line, the 3 D line, Dark; Dingy and Dirty. Next stop the jubilee line or could it be the orient express. What dissimilarity, It was far more contemporary than the northern line...
