Where's my earl grey???

Advantages: Nice redbush tea
Disadvantages: No taste of earl grey at all

...I love tea. I especially love Earl Grey tea. I'm a bit of an Earl Grey connoisseur, and I also love Redbush, or Rooibos, tea, which I find very hydrating. So you can imagine my delight when I came across this tea... My box of 40 teabags of Dragonfly Earl Grey Rooibos cost me £1.99 from an independent food shop in Glastonbury. I have seen the Dragonfly brand in Waitrose, but never this type. The box promised the health benefits of rooibos with all the flavour of bergamot. I must admit, I was rather excited (yes I get excited about tea!). I decided to take the teabags to work with me, as I had just finished a box of Earl Grey, and I thought that some hydrating Redbush would be pleasant during the hot summer. Tea, Earl Grey. Hot.

Advantages: quite an unusual taste

...I have to admit that Star trek provided my first contact (scuse the pun) with Earl Grey tea. Sad, isn't it? Captain Jean-Luc Picard drinks his, as in the title, and I just succumbed to the subliminal messages and tried some. I was pleasantly surprised. Earl Grey is a tea flavoured with bergamot, a perfume. Not everyone gets along with this, but as far as can tell, the trick is to drink your tea very weak - if you make it too strong, the bergamot becomes a touch overpowering and sickly. You can make Earl grey much as you would an ordinary tea - Twinnings provide you with nice tea bags that can be placed into cups, mugs or tea pots as you see fit. I would recomend 'showing the tea bag to the water' rather than a long steep, unless you like your bergamot really strong. You can add milk and/or sugar if you like, or drink it back...

I'm just trying to brew a better cuppa ... My name is Earl !

Advantages: A refreshing and delicate tea that is officially endorsed by the Earl Grey family !
Disadvantages: None really ... unless you try it and don;t like the taste !

After 9.00am, it's coffee all the way to the "wee small hours" for me. Lidl's Lord Nelson Earl Grey teabags 25

Advantages: As good as Twinings etc
Disadvantages: None

...Lidl's Lord Nelson Earl Grey is an excellent version of tea. It is cheaply priced at 59p and each tea bag is individually wrapped in a sachet, like in the restaurants in the Mediterranean. A string is attached for convenience. A smooth taste, definately on par with Twinings Earl Grey as I drink both brands. The only snag is Twinings is about £2 for 50 bags. Lord Nelson boxes have 25 bags in them, so you are paying approximately 2p/bag. Twinings work out at approx 4p/bag. I personally like Twinings but when you can get the same thing for half the price, my choice is made. Don't believe rumour that Lidl's products is similar to other supermarket's "value" and "brands", it is definately not! I actually quite fancy one now!...

Review of Lord Nelson Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey, with a little colour

Advantages: Tasty, Sophisticated
Disadvantages: trust me, it's better without a lemon

...Tradition has it that Earl Grey should be drunk with a lemon, I tried this a while ago and I can assure you it works better with milk!! So, where to begin with Earl Grey Tea, it has a luxurious distinctive taste, all from that bergamot that is blended with the tea. Now, Earl Grey may not be everybody's cup of tea (sorry, that pun may not have been necessary) but Twinings have managed to perfect the taste of Earl Grey. Just the right amount of bergamot oil can be found here which gives the tea a nice flavour that should be appreciated. Now, as for price, well it costs £2.47 for 100 bags, now it's reasonably difficult to find other brands of Earl Grey elsewhere, £2.47 is expensive and this is a downfall but it's worth it because this tea isn't just fit for a king, it's fit for an earl. I recommend buying Twinings Earl Grey...

Tea Fit For An Earl

Advantages: Feeling Earl (or Countess) like when drinking it, lovely delicate flavour

...Despite my previous extolling of the virtues of Clipper tea, I remain a polygamous tea drinker. This probably has mainly to do with the vast volumes of tea that I drink: were it not for my occasional flirtations with other types (and shock horror even different brands) of tea I would have quickly become bored of my favourite brew and no doubt by now my Clipper bags would have been relegated to remaining on the supermarket shelf rather than whizzing to my house in the chauffer-driven limousine (oh okay then, the Tesco.com van) every week. So is Twinings Earl Grey just another flirtation? In a word, no! Earl Grey Green Tea

Advantages: Refreshing taste, Earl Grey taste without the high caffeine

...Given that I can't drink conventional tea anymore (see my Clipper Green Tea op), I've discovered green tea and have been trying different varieties. This one caught my eye in a teashop I was in on a visit to Durham, and I've been buying it ever since. I think it's relatively new on the market, and I can't find it on Twinings own webpage, but it is available in most supermarkets (Tescos have it) and also health shops like Holland and Barrett. It comes in a bright (lime) green cardboard box, with 20 t-bags in it. It's in a similar design to Twinings fruit herbal teas if you know what they look like. It's green tea but flavoured with bergamot, which is the earl grey flavouring. To me, it's great as it's like drinking earl grey tea (my fave) but without the heaviness of normal tea, and with much less caffeine. You brew it for 2...

The 'King' of Earl Greys?

Advantages: lovely delicate flavour and aroma

...I love Earl Grey tea, from the delicate smell as your pour the hot water onto the tea bag to the smooth taste as you drink your tea. Tradionally drunk black or maybe a splash of lemon it can be drunk with a splash of milk if thats how you like it. Traditionalists may scream with horror but this Earl Grey can cope with just that little dash of milk opening up the experience to even more tea lovers. Small round teabags in a foil packet so you need a tea caddy to keep them in once opened, which is a bit of a bind and either a teapot or a trusty teaspoon as these teabags are san string. They are expensive and worth getting when they are on offer 3 for two or from an outlet shop. I have only seen them in Whittards shops so far.
