I love Eastbourne

Advantages: Sunny, plenty to do for kids and adults, wonderful scenery
Disadvantages: I don't live there ........

...Last year, I started dating someone new. Someone who lived in Eastbourne, giving me the first chance in 6 years of being a mum to properly get away and have a break and a bit of sunshine on the beach. Of course, it's not the reason I'm dating him, just a rather nice side effect of the relationship . Eastbourne is a large town situated in the south coast of England, which enjoys a large amount of sunshine and warm weather, amongst some rather wonderful views . You have the 4 mile stretch of pristine shingled beaches, the magnificent downs, Beachy Head, and all manner of wonderful things provided by nature to marvel at . I've been to Eastbourne twice - once by train, and once by coach . Naturally, routes will vary depending on where you are travelling from, but on both occasions my journey from Nottingham involved a change at London...

Sunny Eastbourne

Advantages: Sunny Weather. A Floral Town. Nice Promenade
Disadvantages: Pebble Beach

...I would most certainly regard Eastbourne as gracious. It has a lengthy and very elegant promenade replete with gorgeous flowers in bloom. It has some of the best hotels in Sussex and its shopping centre, including the one-stop Arndale Centre,is not bad at all. The entertainment scene is also quite good. I have certainly come across some pubs of real character, there are plenty of good eateries and not many tacky joints that are often associated with brasher seaside resorts. I dont know much about the club scene but other reviewers sugggest it is quite reasonable. Aside from the inherent attractions of the town itself,it also makes a good base for touring the many pleasant towns and villages in East Sussex. There is delightful Rye to explore. sedate Bexhill-on-Sea appeals to some, Hastings and 1066 and all that, Pevensey Castle...

Making merry with cider and perry at Middle Farm

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...I'm currently on another visit to my boyfriends home in sunny Eastbourne, and as has become my custom, I've been dragging him out of bed every day to go and show me the local sights, aided by a little yellow book that gains us free entry to a variety of attractions - his mum works in a local attraction herself and gets us these trade passes . On this occasion , we decided to go visit Middle Farm, nestled at the foot of Firle Beacon, just outside Lewes . As with many attractions in this area of East Sussex, the drive, for a city girl like me is an attraction in itself - driving past stunning sea views part of the way, and rolling Sussex Downland interrupted by small villages full of character filled old buildings and the occasional country pub. For someone whose normal travel in my home city of Nottingham generally involves taking a bus...

Baa Baa dead sheep, floating in the lake

Advantages: -

...Well, I'm down in Sunny Sussex on my holidays again, and today we decided to visit Knockhatch Adventture Park, on the outskirts of Eastbourne, off the A22. We, of course, being myself, my boyfriend, and my six year old daughter . It didn't take us long to drive there from Eastbourne, although we were slightly delayed by a diversion due to the filming on the pier of the remake of Brighton Rocks. The carparking was free, although getting to the carpark required driving down a very narrow country lane that could easily be missed . There were plenty of spaces, and it was easy to find the entrance to the park itself and the payment kiosk . Admission prices are £8 for an adult, and £7 for a child aged 3-18 . These are peak season prices, prices are quite a lot cheaper off peak . The, into the park we went . On first appearance, it looks like...

Mr Kiplings place

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...During the summer holidays we spent a week in Sussex visiting relatives. As we are members of the National Trust we decided to visit a few Trust owned properties during our stay. Looking on the map I noted that Bateman?s was within striking distance so decided to visit. Bateman?s was once the home of the literary genius Rudyard Kipling, and as my children are both keen on the Jungle Book I thought the visit would be something they would enjoy. Getting there. ************ Bateman?s is situated ½ a mile from the small village of Burwash in East Sussex. We traveled by car and found the house was well sign posted from miles away. I?m not going to spend time giving you detailed directions as you can simply use a sat nav or AA route finder. However Bateman?s is just off the A265 to the west of Burwash. It is possible to get here using public...

Fagins Diner is Definitely NOT Criminal

Advantages: Friendly staff, decent food at reasonable prices
Disadvantages: narrow entrance to the toilets

.... LOCATION Fagins Diner is situated about half a mile from Hastings Station. 73 George Street Hastings East Sussex TN34 3EE Tel: 01424 439319 NB: If my title confuses you, I?m referring to the Fagin of Oliver Twist ? not that I?m even aware of any connection with the restaurant name and the fictional character from the Dickens novel...

"A GOOD AND PEACEABLE PLACE"

Advantages: Beautiful Setting. Authentic17th Century House. Many Original Contents. Still Feels a Home.
Disadvantages: May be Crowded in Summer. Off the Beaten Track - just as Kipling wanted!

...the season, rather than attempting to list these here, I would refer you to the National Trust's information page on Bateman's: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-ba temans/ Admission charges (2007) are £6.85 adult, £3.45 Child, family £17.10. Bateman's is located half a mile south of Burwash on the A265. Bateman's Burwash, East Sussex TN19 7DS Telephone: 01435 882302 IN CONCLUSION Many of us when looking for a property in which to set up home choose them on "gut instinct" - they just feel right, despite any potential pitfalls. This is exactly how the Kipling's felt about Bateman's, visiting this property today it is not at all hard to see why. In our ever more busy and noisy century, it is increasingly difficult to find a home free of annoyance and disturbance from neighbours and passers-by. Even...

A magnificent ruin - well worth a visit

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Hastings Castle Castle Hill Road, West Hill, Hastings Standing proudly on the cliff top, looking out over the glistening sea, with views to Eastbourne and across the channel, the proud ruins of Hastings Castle make a spectacular site, especially on a sunny day . I don't think I can do this castle justice without going into the back story, so forgive me if this review gets a little lengthy. Hastings was the first Norman castle built in Britain, and its location was a strategic one . Originally built of wood and earth as a Motte and Bailey in September 1066, shortly before the Battle of Hastings, from its vantage point high up on the cliffs, it could watch the channel to welcome in Norman ships, and could also survey the surrounding countryside, and be forewarned of any sneaky attacks from the locals . Here they could prepare...

Eastbourne Seafront Travelodge

Advantages: Takes pets; cheap rooms
Disadvantages: mundane room interiors; breakfasts being downsized

...We've all heard of this chain I'm sure, but did you know they let you bring your pets? In case you didn't realise, Travelodge will accept pets in the rooms, which is the main reason I choose them, so my Labrador can come too. You pay a £10 extra fee on arrival for pets but with the rooms being so cheap I don't mind. Travelodges are wonderful value for money. The most I've ever paid to stay in one is £39, but the last couple of occasions has been just £19 a night for the room, which if there's two of you sharing is excellent value for money. The Eastbourne Travelodge (not the Hellingly one - the newer one they have just acquired) is right on the seafront and when I last stayed there in October we got a seafront room which was fantastic. The only drawback was the fact that you couldn't open the French doors onto the little balcony...

Plumpton Is a Real Place

Advantages: Good Community - People Stick Together
Disadvantages: Boring - Not much for Teens

...London Victoria and London Bridge and Lewes and Eastbourne in the other direction. Village life: Growing up in a small village like Plumpton Green had its good and bad points. As a young child it was good, going to the local school meant that your friends lived a stones throw away, also being a small community it meant that everybody knows everybody else so when we turned 10/11 years old I was aloud to go down the park on my bike and hang out with friends after school. When I became a teenager was when village life took its toll, to young to go in the pub (because everyone knew how old you were) but too old to hang at the park. This was when we took to roaming up and down the village stopping to chat at the bus stops or at the station. Another favourite hang out was the Chinese Woods behind The Fountain pub or down at my friends...
