When I buy instant coffee, it comes out of the glass jar and straight into my coffee jar in the kitchen, the glass jar then goes directly into the recycle bin, to me this always seems like such a waste, and although it is always recycled, it seems silly to have to pay for the packaging of a glass jar and then for it to go straight into the rubbish. Of course, many people do keep their coffee in the jar it came in, but, these still end up in the rubbish or recycling when they buy another jar.

...The Eco Kettle is designed for you to be able to more accurately put in just the right amount of water that you want boiled - therefore saving energy for the planet and saving you money in electricity costs.
How does it work: the kettle has 2 chambers; one acts as a reservoir (this is the one you fill) and then by pushing and holding down a button on the lid of the kettle you transfer the required amount of water to the boiling chamber. Both chambers have 'windows' marked with cup levels, so you can see the volume in each. OK, so that sounds a bit faffy but seriously ITS EASY its just hard to explain! If you buy one then definitely read the instruction booklet and all will be come clear. And practice makes perfect - I found it did take a few goes to perfect the technique.
What's Great: I love that I'm being eco and env friendly...

...i've recently ordered the Citizen Eco-Drive Watch for my father online and found both the product and the company i ordered from to be top class. The delivery was next day, and it was free too (which makes a nice change) and the old man really liked his present too, so all in all, a good experience.

The watch it's self i've been told is very comfortable and feels natural when wearing, it's heavy enough due to the quality, but light enough to not get in the way.
The gold remains to be as shiny today as it was when i brought the item (over 3 months ago) and the face isn't scratched, even though the watch is worn every day and not just...

At the time of writing, this watch is the top of the Skyhawk model range, Citizen's take on aviation themed watches. In addition to the usual Skyhawk features, the A-T model synchronises with the atomic clock signal. As well as being able to receive the European signal, it can also be trained to the USA and Japan time signals by setting the relevant time zone - an advantage over some of the cheaper atomic watches offered by other manufacturers.
The watch is a chunky design with a stainless steel bracelet and base contrasting the black face and rotating slide rule bezel. The hands are metallic with luminous inserts, and all the hour markers also contain the luminous inserts. The watch weighs in at 178g (on our digital kitchen scales) and the glass is 34mm diameter...

...It's easy to be sceptical when someone tells you that with a few reusable balls you can cut down on the cost of washing clothes and help the environment all whilst still keeping your clothes at a good level of cleanliness. I had thought about using ecoballs for a long time, but worried that the product might not work. I finally decided that I had nothing to loose in trying and I brought some ecoballs from amazon.
I have not found ecoballs for sale in any shops, but they are easily available in many different places. They can be brought in many different packs, some with just the balls, some with other eco friendly products. Prices for a pack of ecoballs which can last for up to 1000 washes range from £20 to £35.
So, what do they do then?

Advantages: Good cleaning for tough fabrics, non-polluting Disadvantages: No use for delicates, noisy in use
...I have wondered about trying eco-balls for a while, but was initially put off by the cost. On talking it over with my better half, we decided that it was worth a try, so I did a search on the web for a stockist. I ended up buying my eco-balls from a site called EcoHamster! (http://www.ecohamster.co.uk)
EcoHamster sells the set of 3 eco-balls for £27.52: I decided to order their 'super saving pack' containing the Ecoballs plus a Kitchen / Bathroom Pack (2 cleaning cloths) and a Toilet Descaler (a magnetic ring that you pop into the cistern) at £34.98. I will try to review these other products at some time.

Never having heard of them before I didn?t know what the heck he was on about and just ignored him as I usually do, but he persisted, so, in between reading Ciao reviews, I headed off to my search engine and stuck the words ?eco balls? in it.

Up popped the Green shop website and, coincidentally, their home page happened to have an article about these Balls and they sounded very enticing. Apparently you put some plastic balls filled with eco friendly stuff in your washing machine instead of the Ariel, Persil or whatever. You don?t need fabric conditioner either because they ionise the water and leave your clothes naturally soft, allegedly. I had to admit that they sounded ideal for folks with sensitive skin, but would they work?

Living in Scotland with four seasons in one day, it has become the bain of my life, constantly picking up washing from the ground or in severe cases the neighbours garden, not an ideal situation when your male neighbour returns your smalls with a wide grin on his face.

...Umberto Eco's medieval whodunit "The Name of The Rose" was for me one of the great novels of the twentieth century. A marvellous mixture of history, detective work, religion and a prodigious vocabulary put to excellent effect by the author.
Sadly Eco's career as a novelist has, for me, been subject to the law of diminishing returns. His second novel "Foucault's Pendulum" was a passable novel with an esoteric theme but his two subsequent novels have been heavy to read, strong on wordplay but weak on characterisation and not exactly gripping.
I therefore hoped the idea of "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana" - a novel lavishly illustrated, mainly from old comics - would reinstate him in my pantheon of great living authors.
