Gardens of Eden
Advantages: Educational and individual effect on the masses
Disadvantages: Very expensive, perhaps too touristy so the message is lost.
...The Eden Project opened in Cornwall in early 2001 and has established itself as a very popular tourist attraction, with over 1.2 million admissions per year, well in excess of initial expectations. The Eden Trust, the charitable organisation that runs the Eden Project aims to show how much man depends on plants and the natural world, and therefore how important it is that we treat animals and plants with respect and only use resources in a sustainable way.
The Chief Executive of Eden Project was also responsible for restoring the lost gardens of Heligan in the early 1990s and he wanted to do more to connect plants and people. The site of the Eden project was an old disused clay pit which was an eyesore in a depressed area of the country. It took 3.5 years from the first cut of land to visitors being able to wander through the now...

More Expensive than The Garden of Eden...
Advantages: It's pretty impressive, especially if you're interested in botany of course, good facilities
Disadvantages: Rather over-priced at the moment, not as spectacular as you're lead to believe
...The Eden Project, dedicated to preserving as diverse a range of the earth's plant life as possible using "biomes" (like a giant greenhouse really and sort of spherical) to replicate their natural environment. Based in Cornwall is touted as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". (Here's a little known fact - the Eden Project s one of the world wonders you can build in Civillisation 3: Call to Power.) Such an accolade is probably guaranteed to bring in lots of visitors - and give them an unrealistically high expectation.
Prices
The entry price of £12 per adult adds to this impression that you're going to see something absolutely mind-blowing, though in line with their ecological objective you get £3 off if you go in on a bike rather than drive in. There are various concessions for groups, senior citizens, children, etc.
There are...

Garden of Eden
Advantages: An experience that changes daily!
Disadvantages: Need to visit the Project more than once!
...I doubt whether many people cannot be aware how much money the Millennium Dome lost for the British public? How many people are aware about the Eden Project?
The philosophy behind the Eden Project is to ‘promote the understanding and responsible management of the vital relationship between plants, people and resources, leading towards a sustainable future for all.’ The challenge set was to build a series of giant conservatories as outstanding architecture, which could also compete in performance with any commercial greenhouse. The triple glazed, ethyl-tetra-fluoro- ethylene foil provided the solution. It is anti static, lightweight, strong yet remains receptive to UV light, which the plants require, and is not degraded by sunlight. This triple glazed building is better insulated than glass, and yet sticks to the Eden...

Eden project - our future
Advantages: Exciting, educational, makes you love our Earth more
Disadvantages: Nothing!
...We visited Eden for the second time this April and felt moved by this beautiful ,respectful place. Such a lot to learn - you can't take in everything, but if each person takes away one "seed" from Eden in terms of an idea to try out, it will have been worth it.
We felt the entrance fee very good value, and great to become members for the year.
The whole site looks stunning as you peer over the crest of the "pit":- futuristic and beautiful.
We didn't ice-skate but thought this was a lovely idea. Wonderful to see Eden as a venue for the big summer concerts - what an arresting and memorable setting.
We were impressed by the colour spectrum of "Bulbmania" and the interesting living exhibits and local plants in the "outside Biome", reminding us of how fortunate we are to live in such a blessed climate here in the UK (most of the time...

Eden goes Cornish
Advantages: All day attraction
Disadvantages: tiring to navigate
...I?ve heard the Eden Project described as both ?an incredible feat of human ingenuity? and ?a nice greenhouse?. Since my visit in October 2004 I can see both sides. At £12 per adult to get in you expect something of good quality, which it is. When you first set eyes on the biomes from the car park it is impressive and looks slightly odd nestled in the old quarry like something from the film, ?Logan?s Run?. I?d heard that the first hurdle is getting in since the queues are notoriously long, but we had no trouble on a Wednesday morning. The entrance, flanked by a restaurant and a café were spacious, clean and inviting with the food and drink all reasonably priced. I would not recommend buying a guide book. Costing £4 it contains only the same information as you see on the boards walking around and we found we didn?t need to refer to it...

Eden - an Exotic Experience
Advantages: Unusual, educational, thoroughly enjoyable
Disadvantages: Expensive
...given to their native crops such as citrus fruits, grapes, cork, tobacco and many others. Breathe in carefully and you can smell the essential oils which the plants release to minimise water-loss ? it?s a completely different environment to the one just experienced, but no less exciting.
The verdict? The Eden Project is a wonderful place to spend a day ? although you may well be worn out by the end of it. We spent about five hours looking around, which was plenty enough really ? but then, we didn?t study each exhibit within the biomes in detail. The selection of food available within the restaurants was excellent, but definitely left us a little lighter in the wallet region ? I had what was probably the most expensive jacket potato of my life, £3.75 and all it had on it was cheese? If you?re going, take a cool-bag and a picnic and save...

Eden Better Than I Thought It Would Be
Advantages: Very Interesting, spectacular scenery
Disadvantages: Can be tiring and refreshments very expensive
...As we have entered the peak holiday season, many of us will be making our way down to Cornwall. I have just returned from Devon, and whilst I was there I spent some time visiting the Eden Project, one of Cornwall's newest attractions.
Based near St Austell in Cornwall, The Eden project has been called the "Living Theatre of Plants and People". It is a huge "garden" under two enormous dome shaped "greenhouses" (called biomes), in a 50m deep crater which has been dug out of an old china clay pit. It covers an enormous area (I have heard it is the size of 30 football pitches, and having seen it, that could well be the case.
Primarily the Eden Project aims to promote conservation and education. Teaching us how to live in harmony with our environment, and showing us how much we depend on plant life to sustain us (something we often...

Eden Lake
Advantages: Powerful horror, genuinely scary
Disadvantages: Sickening to watch
...It took me at least a week to come to a semi conclusion of how I felt about Eden Lake; it took me a few days at least to get over the initial shock and emotion felt by watching it. And I have to say that the film I am about to review is like nothing I have seen before.
Eden Lake, is an English film directed by a man called James Watkins, I had never heard of the film nor the director and I was not that enthusiastic about watching it, but after a day moping about alone I wanted something scary to watch and it was in the horror section of my local movie shop at a price of £4 so I thought I would give it a watch. Sometimes I just crave something to give me a bit of a scare.
Horror films which are genuinely scary are few and far between and it is almost unheard of to find one which gives you more than a few jumps and actually offers...

The Garden of Eden in Cornwall
Advantages: Faciniating, educational and great attraction for rainy day
Disadvantages: Some children may get bored easily
...The first time I went to the Eden project I wasn't sure what to expect - there had been a lot of hype about it and wasn't sure if it would live up to my expectations.
When we arrived there we looked for car parking space, there are plenty of car parks but some of them are quite a walk to the main site itself, however there are shuttle busses you can catch.
As we paid and entered we first walked through the outdoor Biome which to me was just normal plants - but apparently some of them are quite exotic. After that we headed for the main Biomes which are the Humid Tropics and Warm temperate biome.
As soon as I walked into the Humid tropics biome I was impressed, it was just like being in a rainforest so much greenery and amazing colourful fauna. And the temperature made me feel like I was abroad. There is even a lovely water fall...

A living theatre of people and plants!
Advantages: clean, loads to see, a great project
Disadvantages: none
...Ever since it was built in 2001 both my husband and I have had a fascination with the Eden Project but it was only last week during our holiday in Cornwall that we finally managed to visit! Most people will be familiar with the images of things that look a bit like huge plastic golf balls appearing out of the ground - and it was great to go and see what these were all about at last.
The Eden Project is an educational charity. In its guide book it states that it is 'a living theatre of plants and people' which among other things creates a global garden, invests in programmes and projects to make a difference and is an exploration of sustainability. Above all, through all its work and everything you see whilst you are there, it is designed to make you think about this world we live in!
Although families are welcome and there are...
