Stylish country in Edinburgh city

Advantages: Quiet, friendly, superb hospitality
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...Arriving in Edinburgh, full of enthusiasm for the sporting job ahead, we were focused on supporting New Zealand All Blacks in an effort to beat Scotland in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. I'd booked the accommodation months in advance and told anyone who would listen that I was incredulous at the price we had to pay on match- night to stay in Edinburgh after the game. Channings Hotel changed our ''rugby'' weekend focus the minute we walked in the door. First impressions are of truly upmarket accommodation. The reception is tidily tucked to one side with the comfortable sofas as the main feature in this ever so important welcoming area to any hotel. We arrived after staying several nights in hostels and I have to say we felt like we had arrived at Buckingham Palace. Parched from travelling we asked for a cup of coffee as we were too...

Edinburgh's Hideous Hidden City

Advantages: Fascinating
Disadvantages: A little claustrophobic

...Edinburgh is an amazing city. For my money, it's architecturally the most beautiful in Britain and it has a history that is truly fascinating. I go there every August for the comedy festival and normally see only the shops, the bars and the comedy venues. This year, however, I was determined to get up earlier than usual and give myself time to take some of the tourist trails. After scouring the net and reading some guide books, my mate and I decided that one thing we must do was take the guided tour of Edinburgh's hidden underground vaults run by Mercat Tours. Edinburgh's underground vaults have only recently been uncovered after lying abandoned and full of waste for many years. Now open to the public on accompanied viewings only, accessible only via huge locked doors which look like any others in the city's winding old streets...

Edinburgh City of Dreams.

Advantages: To Experience the Ancient & Modern beauty of this wonderful city.
Disadvantages: Only if you are disabled or in a wheelchair.

...Almost all my life have I lived in the South of England, so a journey to Edinburgh was to become a great experience. I had been planning to book myself into a days training course with Tony Stockwell, a well known psychic & medium of television fame, and well respected by many. Not many classes are available throughout the year, so when this one came up, based in Edinburgh, I booked a ticket straight away. I am actually living in Cornwall, so when I found a cheap flight from Newquay to Edinburgh, I paid for the ticket there and then. The flight only took one hour. I had booked a 5 day return. This way I was able to travell the day before, rise early to give me plenty of time to walk up the hill, one of the seven hills that this Capital has been built on. The flight was interesting, thanks to the clear skies and small...

Review of Getting around in Edinburgh

Edinburgh - it Stinks

Advantages: Lots to see and do, the city contains some stunning buildings
Disadvantages: The roadworks, the tramworks, the bagpipes!

...I have been living in Edinburgh now for almost five years, and in that time I have gone from loving the place to desperately wanting to leave. I am, however, marooned here for the foreseeable future, due to a combination of factors, the most obvious one being sheer bad luck. We moved to Edinburgh from London for several reasons, the main one being my husband was working in the city at the time. Our daughter was due to leave her special school and the mainstream options available to her in London weren?t great. Actually, that?s being generous ? they were hopeless. For several years Edinburgh had been portrayed as the best place to live for quality of life, and my husband, having worked in the city in the past, was ready for a change ? so we made the decision to move 400 miles north. So what?s right with Edinburgh? The thing...

Edinburgh Playhouse - The Pride of the City!

Advantages: Top Entertainment
Disadvantages: Booking Fee's

...I must thank those who have taken the time to comment with such a high regard for this theatre. Up until last year I was a proud member of The Playhouse management team where I helped the building achieve an "Investor in People" standard. We are all very proud of our committment to the highest level of customer service. The staff are a family of talented individuals who love their jobs and are happy to attend to every customers need. The performances you can expect range from modern day musicals to top music acts such as Girls Aloud and even The Rolling Stones!!! Visit the Live Nation website to learn more. The building is now 77 years old and was originally built as the largest cinema in Europe. It is a whopping 3000+ capacity based on the design of the Roxy Theatre in New York City! It remains the largest all seat venue in...

Exotica in Edinburgh

Advantages: Fun day out for all the family
Disadvantages: Can be depressing to see the animals cooped up, steep hill

...- along with half of Edinburgh, as it was very busy - the joy of school holidays I suppose. Location Edinburgh Zoo is situated in Corstorphine, in the west of the city. It's on the main A8 road and is well signposted. Buses run past here fairly frequently too including Citylink coaches from Glasgow and Stirling, and Lothian Buses routes 12, 26, 31 and X48. The 26 has a particularly good frequency from the city centre. Parking is also available but costs £3.50. The car park is located on a hill and you may find yourself waiting in a queue before a space becomes available. Admission We arrived at the zoo at 11.30 am. The car park was heaving and there was a huge queue of people waiting to get into the zoo. To be fair to Edinburgh Zoo, there were plenty of staff directing people towards various queues to pay to get in. There was a far...

Edinburgh City Fire News Update

Advantages: Not Applicable
Disadvantages: Not Applicable

...I write this opinion to update all of those fellow Ciao members about the Edinburgh Fire news story. I use the opinion system to reply to the many of you who have been emailing me asking about it and asking what's been happening. Please don't email me anymore about this. I don't mind people emailing me but, as I have had 100+ emails I cannot reply to everyone individually. The fire started in Edinburgh's historic old town on Saturday night at around 8pm. The blaze started in a property above the popular night club, La Belle Angele, and quickly spread through to neighbouring buildings including the Gilded Balloon theatre and then right through to other buildings in surrounding streets. Fire fighters bravely tackled the blaze but, their efforts were hampered by the complexity of the areas locality. This is the old town...

Edinburgh, with a capital E.

Advantages: Lots to do,great for tourits, shopping, eating out.
Disadvantages: Gets very busy in Summer months, weather can be dreadful

...day we still try to make it happen around three times a year. I look forward to these outings very much and I don't think I'll ever grow out of them. ** Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, and is the second largest City in Scotland. Edinburgh is situated in the South-East of Scotland, and lies along the Firth Of Forth. Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since 1437. Edinburgh is not only home to the Scottish Parliament, but also to 448,624 people. Edinburgh is also extremely popular with tourists, and every year thousands among thousands of tourists come to visit the city. Edinburgh is famous for many things, including the Edinburgh Festival which comes ever year in the Summer. Another thing Edinburgh is most obviously famous for is its Castle which is the base of many tourists journeys. EDINBURGH FESTIVAL...

Shopping @ Edinburgh Waterfront

Advantages: Free Parking, Layout,
Disadvantages: None so far

...Back in 2001 this lovely decorated card dropped through the door. "Edinburgh waterfront welcomes you to Ocean Terminal. Sit back and enjoy my review What is Ocean Terminal Ocean Terminal is a large (half million sqft) shopping centre set on the lovely up and coming waterfront near to Leith in Edinburgh. A brilliant aparthotel in Edinburgh

Advantages: Lovely well furbished apartments in a great location.
Disadvantages: 5 star means expensive... but you do get what you paid for!

... What is the Knight Residence? The Knight Residence is a luxury aparthotel in Edinburgh. This means you have your own serviced apartments instead of your average hotel, making you feel right at home and having your own private space. The Knight Residence has a 5 star rating and in 2008 they were the top hotel for customer service according to Expedia... not just in the UK, but in the whole of Europe! The apartments are designed to suit every traveller, so if your travelling as a big family or group of friends, you will be looking for the 3 bedroom apartment or, there are also one bedroom apartments and two bedroom apartments. What's in these apartments? The Knight Residence offers 2 different types of apartments (and 2 different prices!), Superior and Comfort. In Comfort expect to find a HD LCD TV with Virgin...
