Edirol Pcr 300

Disadvantages: Not many mostly down to software!

...Ok so i got my pcr300 on my last trip to the states in a samash store for a steal at $200! I got it home and of course had to download vista drivers but not much of a problem! I got it hooked up via its usb cable and i was set! I hooked it up and it just took off! i didnt need to set or program it! Although the keyboard does have an editor in which you can edit and set all of the controls on the controller to do whatever you want. The keyboard itself has 32 velocity-sensitive keys, which have aftertouch, 50 fully assignable controls, 18 velocity pads, Keyboard split and layering unique crossfader feature, as well as nine fully assignable faders! Edirol pcr m50 keyboard

Advantages: 27 fully assignable midi controls, high quality keyboard mechanism, v-link (for visuals)
Disadvantages: quite complex to set up assignable controls.

...My experience I have been dabbling in music since the age of fifteen ( ten years) starting off deejaying with a view to producing my own music, over the last year i have found myself with more time to enjoy this part of my life and therefore borrowed some hardware from a friend, step up the "edirol pcr m50". Its a midi controller/ synthesizer with 49 keys, 12 velocity curves 27 assignable controlls ranging from roatrys, sliders switches and even 2 pedal ports. The keyboard is also fitted with a pitch bend / modulation lever 15 memory set locations and midi input and output ports . Setting up and installing was easy although i didnt have the original driver disk the website was easy to manouvre and find the drivers i required. Edirol tries a budget controller keyboard

Advantages: About 50 controllers, comes with Sonar LE and Dimension LE

Review of Edirol PCR-500

A good enough device for sure

Advantages: solid build, stable, quiet, easy to install, no problems so far
Disadvantages: mic preamps need more gain - but not a major issue

...I've had the Edirol FA-101 for over eighteen months and it's been performing well. So I can recommend it as a good buy. But you may like to note the following: 1. The mic preamps could do with a bit more gain on them. I use AKG C1000S condenser mics for recording into Adobe Audition and I keep having to 'Normalize' my recordings because the mic preamps aren't providing enough poke. It's not a big deal. But you should know about it. 2. You cannot power this device from a 4-pin Firewire cable. Bus power is only available from a 6-pin Firewire cable. So laptop users with only a 4-pin interface will have to use the supplied power transformer. I would recommend mains power anyway because in my experience many of the problems that people have with bus-powered units (Firewire or USB) are caused by not enough power being available from...

nice entry-level package

Advantages: Inexpensve

...Edirol's RolandED U8 USB digital studio comes bundled with either CubasisVST or Cakewalk 9 software and is a great entry-level audio/midi hard disk recording studio. The version I bought was the one with CubasisVST. Both versions include Roland's Virtual Sound Canvas Software giving access to 902 sounds and 26 drum sets! It is advisble to contact Edirol (details on their site http://www.edirol.co.uk) to find out if your USB chipset is compatible as I had a lot of problems with mine. What you get for your £350 (at time of writing) is the U8 unit which is a mixer and transport controller for the bundled software and also features an excellent onboard DSP unit which is relatively editable and, as I mentioned earlier, one of two Steinberg sequencer packages. ...Why bother buying a CME keyboard when there are plenty others, with more established names: Edirol, M-Audio, Korg, Novation - to name but a few? Well, there are a couple of reasons: 1) It is very compact and easily portable. Not an inch of space is wasted. It is probably the narrowest 49-key keyboard, as well as one of the slimmest. You can easily carry it with you, put it on your desk and even keep it on your lap! 2) Key action is quite good. Obviously, this is a matter of preference, but for me it is better than the Edirols, Yamahas and quite a few other keyboards and MIDI-controllers I have tried. The action is quite firm, but not hard. I usually do not fancy so called "weighed" keyboards. I don't know why, but they do not have the same action as a real grand piano. Sure, there is some "hammer-like" effect in these expensive...
