...I suspect that Edmonton is one of those cities that you wouldn't normally find high on the list of a visitor to Canada, but it's certainly worth more than just a look. Not a bad little town

Advantages: relaxed and friendly

...I visited Edmonton a couple of years ago, and, first thoughts where that it wasn't a bad little town. Firstly, as a predstrian, there wasn't a single part of the city that I couldn't get to on foot, which was great. The downtown shopping isn't too good, but you do have the West Edmonton Mall, which is just outside the town. Here you have everything... Literally! The town also hosts many festivals during the summer, and the city has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I never felt threatened by anything and felt relaxed with the kind people. For those brits abroiad, the town also has a few British pubs, some of them themed, some not. Well, you travel thousands of miles and get British beer! South of the river, there is a more traditional shopping area, which is quite funky and also has lots of places to eat! Don't believe what...

...In general, If you are a male of the species the word " shopping" and " great time" don't get put in the same sentence. Well fellas and ladies let me introduce you to the experience which is the WEST EDMONTON MALL situated in Edmonton Canada. When you go to a supermarket and they say " if you can't find it , we don't sell it" you can bet your last Canadian dollar that the west Edmonton mall has it and more besides. To get some idea of the size of this place, it takes up an area of some fifty plus city blocks, some of it's features include: National hockey leage size ice rink, full size replica of Columbus's Santa Maria, Dolphin lagoon, Miniature golf, Casino and many multi-screen cinemas oh and of course, plenty of shops. Surely a future champion

...Christian Malcolm is one of Great Britain's most promising up-and-coming athletes. He has already won titles at junior level, and at the recent world championships in Edmonton he came so close to winning his first World Championship medal. Malcolm, known for his 200 metre running, pulled off an amazing performance to reach the final of the 100 metres, not his best event. Although he made no real challenge as the final saw an American 1-2-3, Malcolm had done well to get that far. Just a few days later Christian began the competition that he promised so much in, the 200 metres. He ran very comfortably, winning his quarter and semi-finals comfortably and setting a new personal best without breaking a sweat. Being the fastest qualifier for the final of the 200 metres, and looking so comfortable, I was hoping he could get the gold medal...

...The Ramada Hotel in Calgary (Canada) is a personal favorite, and when in Calgary, I wont stay anywhere else, indeed, I am willing to travel an hour or so just to stay there! My son loved it too (But not as much as the theme hotel in Edmonton (Different room every night!) The Ramada Hotel Downtown located in the booming metropolis of Calgary and only one hour from the beautiful Canadian Rockies to the west. Its within walking distance of the local attractions, city businesses and the shopping malls nearby. The hotel advertises as having 200 rooms, but it has 201, strange, but true! Stopovers relieve the tedium

Advantages: A cheap way to see Iceland if you can spare the time
Disadvantages: Not the quickest route to Vancouver

...My first, but hopefully, not last experience of Canada 3000 involved a return flight to Vancouver from Gatwick - not the shortest of journeys, and being over 6' the prospect of a non-stop 12 hour flight fills me with nothing but dread. I was relieved to find that non-stop doesn't apply. After a mere 2 hours in the air, we touched down at Rekyavik for an hour or so - hardly time to visit the tax-free shop but a useful stretch of the legs. I believe they offer a stopover option to see something of this unique country, but even doing it my way, you can say that you've been to the most northerly duty-free shop in the world! Then it's off again to Edmonton, a flight of about 6-7 hours, but as the longest leg of the journey, it's only about the length of a typical trans-atlantic flight.
