The EFES Effect

...In case you haven't realised it, I'll drink anything. Well, not quite anything. What I mean is, when I encounter a beer I've never tasted before, I like to remedy the situation asap. And so it was when I noticed my local Wetherspoons selling stubby little bottles of Efes Pilsen for a mere £1.49. I was intrigued. The shape of the bottle was not unlike that used by a great many Belgian brewers, a chunky affair with three gradually narrowing bands around the neck. This beer doesn't hail from Belgium though. Oh no, it journeyed all the way from that other Mecca of beerdom, Turkey. Efes Pilsen was first brewed in 1969 and is now the No1 beer in Turkey (according to them) with an estimated 80% of the market. It's exported to many countries, being especially popular in Russia. Luckily for me, it sneaked its way over here as well...

Efes larger

Advantages: Best tasting larger money can buy.
Disadvantages: limited places to purchace.

...I first tasted Efes in the Northern side of Cyprus. What a beer, clean, crisp and very refreshing. since returning to England, (after 3 years in cypus), I was at first distraught that I couldn't get it any where. I even consulted a beer, wines and spirts expert friend of mine and he informed me that, like many other continental beers, they don't brew it under licence in any other country. Therefore they couldn't make enough for large export to supermarkets in England. Well luckily for me Tesco now stock Efes! It's still brewed in Turkey, so the flavour is just as good. STUFF YOUR FACE AND SHAKE YOUR BOOTY

Advantages: Merry, unusual environment
Disadvantages: Rather tacky - food's not fantastic

...Eating out in a large party is often a very difficult thing to arrange. Not only do you have to cater for a wide range of tastes, you also tend to have to pre-order the food with the restaurant and then keep a note of who is supposed to be having what. The most fun you'll have sitting down!

Advantages: Lively, Friendly, Great Service, Good Food, Moderately priced

...A group of friends and I went to Manchester for a girls weekend & I must say it got off to a pretty amazing start thanks to our exeprience at Efes. We had previously heard that this was a good, lively venue with a bit of a party atmosphere aand this sounded just our cup of tea!! Unfortunately none of us actually booked a table which could have been a major disaster if it wasn't for the fabulous host who managed to squeeze us in even thou it was completely obvious that they were booked to capcity. We had a table to the rear of the restaurant and although it wasn't a prime location it wasn't a bad enough one for us to be concerned. Wrestling E-feds

Advantages: Great fun
Disadvantages: Could take up a lot of time

...I`ve noticed that a big part of the role playing game community are wrestling fans and what everyone overlooks are internet E-federations . Now some people may not have a clue to what an e-fed is so i`ll explain . Right , imagine a wrestling federation federation just like the WWF or WCW but controlled by net users . The aim of these e-feds is to ultimately win the championship by working up the rankings and getting matches . To do this first you have to have a wrestler . Now this is most of the time a wrestler that you have made up yourself but some feds do take real wrestlers . When you have a wrestler on the roster you have to role play on the role play board to win matches . To do this you basicly have to write as if you are the wrestler having an interview on a wrestling TV show , but the options are not just restricted to...

Ooh la la in Istanbul?

Disadvantages: No air con so pretty bad in summer; tiny rooms

.... There were no issues with cleanliness and everything was in good repair. Breakfast was included in the price and was served downstairs in a light and airy dining room. Everything was laid out buffet style and a staff member came to your table with tea and coffee. There were cheeses, tomatoes and cucumber, olives and boiled eggs as well as bread, simits (rings of bread topped with sesame seeds) and delicious honey and slices of pineapple which were beautifully juicy. You could have as much as you wanted so it was a good start to the day. The hostel has a small and dark "bar" which doesn?t stay open late and which we didn?t use. We preferred to bring home a couple of bottles of Efes and drink them on the terrace which has brilliant views over the Sea of Marmara. ...Well, I know all 11 of you who read my ops are going to be sad to hear it, but this is my final York Pubs opinion. Ah well, maybe I'll have to go on a few field trips to sort some new places to review ;) The Roman Bath is located at the north end of Parliament Street in York. Walk north from the fountain (near HSBC), then you will find a square. The Roman Bath is on the left hand side of three pubs. The Crane is one of them...don't enter unless you want to arrange a contract killing. The main attraction of the Roman Bath is surprisingly not the roman bath. Live music is on here most weekdays, and you tend to get middle aged blokes who are actually pretty good. Then again, some aren't. The Old White Swan

Advantages: One of the nicest pibs in York, live music, Millionaire, massive toilets
Disadvantages: A little bit out of the way

...Here's number 5 in my short series about my pubs in York. The Old White Swan is one of my favourites, and in my opinion I definitely under-use it. Firstly, how to get there. From my general start point of the fountain in Parliament Street, head north-east towards Efe's kebab van. If you have any sense, stop there and get some food, and your photo taken (which will be posted on the van the following week). Incidentally, I rate Efe's 6 out of 5 for food. Anyway, from Efe's, head east down the street containing the F1 shop, and Cappucinos. Continue past Wine Rack, past Boots, and thw Old White Swan is on the left. On Fridays, there will be 2 bouncers. The large one with the waxed head is Andy - he's cool. Enter. The Old White Swan has distinct areas. There is a nice courtyard with vines and stuff in the centre, which is excellent...

Advantages: It's free and you can have up to 20 different addresses that are made by you and can be quite witty if you do it right!
Disadvantages: There isn't much to stop you from getting viruses sent to you but you can stop spamming.

...Last year I needed an E-mail account because I was fed up of having messages given to me from my parents because thay had "accidentally" read my e-mails. I looke around and found Another.com. I registered and immediately gave everyone my address. There are loads of ways to personalise your account aswell. There are loads of colour schemes to brighten up your account or darken it as the case maybe, you can add a signature so every time you send an E-Mail it says it says something witty and best of all you can make loads of unbelievabley cool addresses.
