Egyptian info
Advantages: Plenty of appropriate information
Disadvantages: None
...Usborne Beginners Egyptians
Before we went to Egypt, we wanted Little Miss to learn a bit about the country and the people who had made some of the monuments. Because I like Usborne books, I bought this because things are explained in simple but factual terms.
**THE BOOK AND ILLUSTRATIONS?**
The book we bought is a hard back book because it was going on holiday with us, although it is also available as a paper back. The book itself is quite a nice size as it's not too big (about 20cm by 15cm) so it's easy for small hands to hold.
There is a large colourful picture showing Egyptians at home on the front cover and simply the word "Egyptians"- we know exactly what we will be reading about.
There are 14 short sections, shown in the contents page, with the titles being short and easy to read, covering topics such as: River Life...

Tasty Turin
Advantages: Fabulous food, fabulous people, fabulous city
Disadvantages: None
...bombed during the Second World War by the Allies and later subjected to terrible destruction by the retreating Germans. In the 1950's Fiat played an essential role in the re-development of the city, and, after a period of recession in the 1980's, it gained importance in the 1990's as one of the most developed technological regions. Thanks to Turin's new image, the city will host the winter Olympics in 2006.
*************** Attractions ********************
Of course, there are good reasons why it attracts so many visitors. In the cathedral of Turin is kept the Holy Shroud, the ancient linen winding-sheet in which, according to the tradition, the body of Christ was wrapped after his crucifixion. There is also the Egyptian Museum, which contains an extraordinary collection of art from Ancient Egypt, and the Sabauda Gallery, full...

Simply Awe-inspiring
Advantages: Amazing Collection Of Antiquities
Disadvantages: Rosetta Stone In London
...taken in the past, not just Egyptian treasures but any treasures. The Eglin Marbles for example belong on the Parthenon in Athens. I wouldn't like to think how many artefacts are in private collections.
You can't take cameras in to the museum, which is a little disappointed, but I can understand the reasons. It is worth buying a book, our guide recommended a book shop just across the road from the museum that has a good selection of books.
The museum is the most interesting I have ever been in, I enjoyed every minute in there. We spent three hours in the museum, this is adequate, make sure that you give yourself at least that amount out time. The museum was quite busy when we were there in March, but not over crowded. If you are looking for the best collection of the treasures of Egypt you can't do any better than this museum...

Play like an Egyptian
Advantages: Compulsive , addictive , challenging ,varying skill levels ,can pause and restart
Disadvantages: Compulsive and addictive , frustrating at times .
...This is my first ever review of a computer game and I hope I manage to convey what it's about and what it's like to play .
Our Mah-jongg computer games are really my Hubby's and are one of the few such games which I also enjoy . We have had various copies of Mah-jongg for PC's over the years and this Mah-jongg Master the Egyptian Edition has the same basic idea but with a twist .
Background to Mah-jongg ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As an ancient Chinese solitaire game Mah Jong was played with oblong tiles which had a picture or symbol on the top side . Now I don't know the ins and outs of the original game so I'll try and explain the computer game . The object of the game of Mah-jongg is to remove all the tiles by matching pairs and removing a pair at a time .You can only remove tiles which have at least one free side . If...

The Treasure of the Pharoahs
Advantages: The finest collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world
Disadvantages: Very busy - Not air conditioned - No Cameras
...The Egyptian museum is without doubt a must see experience if you are visiting Cairo. The museum houses the finest collection of Egyptian antiquites in the world and is the permanent home to the Tutankhamun collection.
The basic entry ticket (around £3) allows access to all areas of the museum except the royal mummies room, for which there is an additional fee.
Contrary to what is written in most travel guide books NO cameras are permitted into the museum (they stopped selling camera permits around 2004) so don't bring one!. Security checks take place both at the main entrance to the grounds and as you enter the museum. If you have a camera, you will be sent out to deposit it at a kiosk in the grounds which gets very busy. On one occasion I visited, the camera kiosk had reached capacity and it took a couple of hours to...

Night at the Museum
Advantages: Great comedy and pure entertainment
Disadvantages: a little slow to begin.. but not for long though.
...Director: Shawn Levy
Producers: Shawn Levy and Stephen Sommers.
Writer: Milan Trenc, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon.
Stars: Ben Stiller, Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Jake Cherry, Charlie MurphyRami Malek, Pierfrancesco Favino,Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Robin Williams and Kim Raver
Released in Late 2006 this comedy, (I believe is based on a 1993 novel by Milan Trenc), revolved around a Museum and its mystical effects on a night watchman.
**BRIEF PLOT**
In New York city's Museum of Natural History Lawrence 'Larry' Daley, (played by Ben Stiller) begins a job as a night watchman, mainly to gain the respect of his son Nick, (played by Jake Cherry).
Larry has had many dead end jobs in the passed, failing at all he tries, and is so terrified that Nick will prefer spending time with his...

The Booth Museum, Brighton
Advantages: Free admission, lots to see
Disadvantages: None for me
...The Booth Museum is located on Brighton's suburban back streets well away from the town centre but having said that it is on Dyke Road (the A2010) which is one of the major routes through the town and so it is relatively easy to find.
The museum is named after the Victorian natural historian Edward Thomas Booth who spent much of his life in Brighton. Primarily it houses his personal collection of stuffed birds but there are also animals, insects, fossils and skeletons. These collections were amassed during his lifetime and contain over half a million different specimens. He lived between 1840 and 1890.
Like most Victorian naturalists of the time he was an avid collector. It seems odd nowadays to think that someone that was considered to be such a lover of these creatures should hunt them down and shoot them. However we need to...

Vatican Museum
Advantages: Unique
Disadvantages: 4 miles plus
...Did I really want to go to the Vatican Museum? Expecting nothing I took the metro to Ottaviano. It was not difficult to know which way to go, I just followed the crowds and after about five minutes I was confronted with the huge walls of the Vatican City.
Signs point you in the right direction, which is following the wall up a gentle slope to the entrance of the Museum. The first thing that struck me was how modern the interior was the second was the length of the queue (about 40 mins). While waiting in line you get a taste of how efficiently run the Vatican is, this was the only museum in Italy where the staff seemed not only regimented but very neatly turned out in a Vatican uniform.
Unlike all the other museums around Italy there is no free entrance for students, although I did try. There are over four miles...

Ponterfact Museum, West Yorkshire
Advantages: Free entry, plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Not everyones idea of a fun day out
...Pontefract's museum is located within an impressive art nouveau building that dates from 1904. This building was originally the Carnegie Free Library and even today it still has the feel of a library about it, although in other places it also reminded me of an old school building. It is located right in the heart of the town centre, adjacent to the parish church and close to the market and is therefore very easy to find.
I usually try and make a point of visiting museums when I am in area as they are an excellent way of finding out about an area and they are usually free to visit. Pontefract's museum is no exception to this rule as it is both free and a great place to discover all about the towns rich history.
The building that houses the museum is set out on two different floors but most of the exhibits are on the lower floor. As...

A Museum Piece Destined For Deep Storage
Advantages: Decent family film. Stand out performance by Hank Azaria.
Disadvantages: Humour is hit and miss. Not much of a plot.
...? Act first, think later!?) , and the second to un-credited Jonah Hill (Seth from Superbad), as Brundon, the Smithsonian Security Guard ? the confrontation between him and Stiller?s Daley was fairly amusing ? and was repeated between Stiller and Azaria later in the film to more comedic effect.
THOUGHTS
The characters are the movie, rather than the movie being something the characters are in. There is not really much of a plot ? just lots of running around and making use of the central conceit of the film ? that the museum can come to life because of a mystical Egyptian tablet. Never is this more evident than in the animation of classic paintings and photographs by the likes of Warhol, Monet and Grant Wood?s ?American Gothic? ? the latter supplying a pitchfork for one set piece between the good guys and the bad. It?s a good concept...
