The Mighty Mars Bar

Advantages: Classic chocolate bar
Disadvantages: They changed the nougat filling

...This is perhaps the most classic chocolate bar from my childhood. It has long been my favourite as a kid and I sort of have to say it still is so as not to feel as if I have disowned it (sorry Mars Bar but I have found other favourites - I still love you though!). 'A Mars a day helps you work rest and play' - this was the little catchphrase that was associated with Mars Bar. Funny really; it's like saying a chocolate bar a day is good for you. The slogan has now changed to 'Pleasure you can't measure' which definitely seems more appropriate. A standard Mars bar comes at 58g, about 11cm long and 1.8cm high. You'll pay about 32p for this bar in supermarkets which is well below the norm of 50p. They used to be more expensive but in recent years, the classic nougat and caramel filling has obviously lost its appeal as new and more...

The addictive cereal bar

Advantages: yummy
Disadvantages: addictive lol

...Tracker Chocolate Chip cereal bars are a healthy option when you want to treat yourself. It has only one disadvantage: it is addictive. We bought a box of these cereal bars 2 hours ago and there is only one in the box ? First impressions ---------------------- The Tracker Chocolate Chip box is light and dark brown coloured. The two colours swirl together and in the middle there is a cereal bar. The box has a big white Tracker logo on it. There are 8 individually packed bars in the box. I bought them in Sainsbury?s for 1.52 pounds per box and they are on offer two boxes for 2.80 pounds. On bar weights 26 g. I think next time I will try another one too. Tracker cereal bars are available in three tastes: chocolate chips, roast nut and raisin. Their package is very similar: there is only one colour difference in the swirl. I haven?t tried...

Cookie bars????

Advantages: got 8 free
Disadvantages: not quite there

...I bought a pack of these as it was 100% extra - 16 bars for the price of 8 and the fact that I thought they would be a treat for my daughter in her lunch box. She sometimes moans that she has too much fruit! I can't remember how much I paid for them, I could guess but I won't bother as I could be way out. I was feeling a little bit peckish one afternoon so I though I would try one, they are all individually wrapped when you open the main packet . 'Cookie bars' what does that mean to you?? Or what do you expect?? To me it means moist crumbly biscuit with lots of chocolate chips in. I opened the wrapper and inside was quite a thick rectangular biscuit I don't know why, but it didn't quite look like I expected it to. Upon tasting it I thought it was a bit dry. Then I realised it's an oaty cookie which was probably why I thought...

Review of Fox's Cookie Bars

A Mars Bar A Day...

Advantages: Chewy, Moreish, Classic, Fulfilling, Delicious, Indulgent
Disadvantages: High Calorie/Sugar, Sickly

...So here it is, the review on maybe the best loved British confectionary bar. Will I live up to it? Probably not, but I?ll try my best. I got this in my local newsagents, but you could basically buy these just about anywhere, I saw one in a clothes shop the other day! It?s a chunky 58g bar and my god was I looking forward to this review. I?ll start by stating that I believe Mars are a magnificent company and really have some of the best chocolate treats out there. This Mars Bar however, may be what they are best know for. The wrapper is so simple, yet so enticing. As it is such a bold black it does stand out amongst the many browns, reds and blues you gat in other chocolates available. The red text stands out boldly amongst the black background, with the curved cartoony text somehow giving a smooth feel already. I didn?t want to...

Daim Bar Education

Advantages: Sweet and crunchy chocolate covered bar
Disadvantages: Cost and calories

...Welcome to the school of Daim bars! School days appear to be getting shorter and much more fun than when I was a girl, so I hope you enjoy my review. Art and Design 6/10 ***************** The brightly coloured wrapper uses recyclable plastic type of paper in 2 primary colours red and blue, with white highlighting behind the name ?DAIM?. On my packets a bold yellow ?35P? is shown as the RRP. A few rays of sunshine are behind the name and a few pieces of broken chocolate bar complete the packet. Teachers comment ? design could be improved. English 7/10 ********* On the back is a list of ingredients, informing us that the bar contains 42% milk chocolate with a Crunchy Almond Caramel Centre. Teachers comment ? good use of descriptive words, but could write more! Geography 7/10 ************* This product is...

Review of Dime Bar

Disappointed By A Dime Bar!

Advantages: Some People Seem To Like Them
Disadvantages: High In Calories, Poor Value For Money

...It's been a long time since I last had a Dime Bar but today I found myself buying one on my way home from work when I picked up the evening paper. Since I haven't actually eaten it yet I have decided to be kind to you all and share the experience of its demise with you. THE BACKGROUND Dime Bars are made by Kraft Foods Ltd and are particularly popular in Scandinavia where they are known as Daim Bars. They are also popular elsewhere in Europe with the major markets being in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the UK and Ireland. THE PRODUCT Dime Bars are described as a Milk Chocolate Bar with a crunchy Almond and Caramel centre. Some of you will probably remember the bizarre TV adverts with Harry Enfield from a few years ago where they were compared with Armadillo's and described as being " Smooth...

A useful replacement for the Wii sensor bar

Advantages: A relatively cheap spare sensor bar. Good for a second TV or a quick replacement.
Disadvantages: The cable is still flimsy. Other sensor bars are even cheaper.

...The Wii might have been the best thing to happen to console gaming since, well, at least the Xbox 360, but the need to install the sensor bar rather ties you to a particular television. It works via two infra-red LEDs which send out signals that are picked up by the Wii-mote which calculates its position via triangulation; accelerometers in the Wii-mote allow it to recalculate its position when out of sight. Since all the complicated electronics are in the Wii-mote and the console, the sensor bar is a relatively simple bit of kit; it is, however, crucial to the operation of the console as a whole. Wii-motes will just about work without it for a while, but will regularly cut-out and drift off-target. If you're the sort of person with multiple TVs in the household and want to move your Wii around you've got to remove and re...

Review of GAME GAMEware Wii Sensor Bar

Mars Bar

Advantages: Superb taste
Disadvantages: Can be sticky

...Introduction: All my life the humble Mars Bar is something I have enjoyed and looked forward to. When I was a kid, my father worked for Mars Confectionary and every week he brought a bag of 'rations' for the family. I always tried to be first to meet him so I could help myself to a Mars Bar. About the Mars Bar: The Mars Bar was originally made in Slough in England. It was first produced in 1932 and not even the War could stop the production of them. The company had gone from strength to strength to feed the public's addition to chocolate. Among their other products are Twix, Maltesers, Snickers, Starburst, Skittles, M&M's and Galaxy. The Mars Bar: I'm not sure if it's me, but I feel the Mars Bar as grown and shrunk over the years. But for me the thing that has remained constant is the distinctive style of the product. As...

Healthy Cereal Bars???

Advantages: Less than 70 calories
Disadvantages: No good if you're lactose/gluten/soya intolerant

...Whilst perusing the aisles in Asda at weekend I came across these Alpen Light cereal bars on a "2 boxes for £2.50" special offer (they usually retail at around £1.80 per box) so purely for the benefit of Ciao members I popped a couple of boxes in my trolley and skipped off to the checkout. (I would normally buy Special K bars.) >>>Background<<< Alpen cereal bars are made by Weetabix, purveyors of fine cereals like Weetabix, Weetos, Ready Brek and Alpen (to name but a few). To add to their Alpen range, Weetabix have launched Alpen Cereal bars, which are a moist and chewy combination of crispy rice & wheat flakes, some of which are dipped in chocolate or a yoghurt coating and come in the following flavours: * Fruit & Nut * Fruit & Nut with chocolate * Apple & Blackberry * Strawberry & Yoghurt * Raspberry & Yoghurt They...

Review of Alpen Cereal Bar

Softness in a bar

Advantages: Moisturising properties
Disadvantages: Manky white layer

...My eldest daughter suffers from eczema very badly and has done for most of her life. I have tried lots of different products in the last few years to try and sooth her discomfort and moisturise her sandpaper-like skin. I have recently been using oilatum bath oil as a shower gel, which has proven to be quite effective but rather messy. My grandma has been researching products in magazines and presented me with this soap bar, also by oilatum, to try. The idea behind her purchase being that it would have the same effect as the bath oil but without the messiness. The bar cost around £3.50 and can be purchased from places like boots. It is easy to identify it as the packaging is similar to that of the entire range of oilatum products, being a white box with blue text. Inside the box you will find a pink coloured oval shaped soap...
