...I'm always on the look out for ways to save a few pennies, as I was brought up that if you look after the pennies the pounds will look after themselves. So when I hunt out my basic toiletries, or even creating gift hampers, I'll always look for the cheapest place to buy them. For the last couple of years, one of my regular stops has been Savers, which is a funny sort of shop, that seems to be a cross-between the local chemist and Boots (only without a pharmacy). And now I'm going to tell you what I like (and don't) about the shop?. ---The Location--- The store I visit is located in Basildon, in the Town Square next to Dixons and not far from Boots. Redefining Contemporary the Savers way

Advantages: Wide range of products and brands
Disadvantages: Cheap and not so cheerful

...I spend a lot of my time visiting shops and assessing them (in a vain attempt not have to work in one) in order to fund the ever increasing costs of my education. (So far, its been relatively unsuccessful but if I had a penny for every time I had said ?Why am I doing this?? with regards my education then I?m sure I could fund it easily!) Savers - saves time and money

Advantages: Low prices, quite extensive range

...When yet another shop closed down in Harlow town centre everyone assumed that we were going to be blessed with yet another cheap mish mash shop that sold nothing in particular and nothing of use to man or beast, but we were wrong. Although the sign was the first thing to be put up and behind blanked out windows men were busy at work refurbishing the shop I was still none the wiser as I had not come across a Savers shop before, and so the agonising wait went on. After what seemed months of walking past this new so-called Savers shop waiting for a peep in the window to see what they would have to offer someone like me the opening day came and in we all piled. Soon it was clear, Savers was here to serve us our daily supplies of toiletries, household cleaning products, baby bits and bobs, behind the counter perfumes and photograph...

Electric Knights

Advantages: A fine work by the Deathstars
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little formulaic

...it's quite slow in tempo, but it's certainly got me trying to move in time as I listen. It glides along to a faster finish. A most satisfying start to the album. 7/10 2. "Night Electric Night" The second song is faster in tempo, although does alternate between faster and slower sections building up to a fast finish, which is something I demand and appreciate from the Deathstars. I love the finish of this. It also satisfies and makes me chair-dance. 7/10 3. "Death Dies Hard" I will deny you This world belongs to me This is apparently the first single from the album. It seems a pretty solid choice. To me, it feels like a James Bond theme, and the title certainly sounds Bond-ish. I like it. The keyboards remind me of a-ha, too. But it's still all very reassuringly Deathstars-ish. 8/10 4. "The Mark of the Gun" But...

Soother & life saver in one!

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, life saver!

...We bought a MAM Crystal Soother Saver before our baby was born, purely since we wanted to make sure we had everything we needed for when the time arrived, and thought we might get some use out of it at some point. However, we put the Soother Saver away when we bought it, and pretty much forgot about it for a long time .. big mistake. If I knew then what I know now, I could have saved myself weeks, if not months of restless nights. My little one, when about 4 or 5 months old, went through a period of constantly losing his dummy during the night. This meant that either myself or my partner were getting up anywhere from a couple of times a night, up to maybe as much as 7 or 8 times a night, just to pop the darn thing back in his mouth. Somewhat tatty but well set out, on the first ailse shampoo an other hair products, and bath products and accessories such as sponges and flannels. Mens and womens dioderent, and oral hygine products The back wall of the shop contains household copnsumables. Washing powder, liquid and general kitchen stuff, the second ailse contains bathroom cleaners, bleaches and disinfectants as well as airfresheners and other scented products. Also on this aisle you will find baby products, feminie hygine products, dieting aids such as slimfast,pain killers and vitamins. Behind the counter you will find an aray of perfumes and aftershaves, razors and batteries...

The oldest electric railway in the world

Savers - the shop to save money in

Disadvantages: Cannot get prescriptions in store

...That is Savers summed up in a nutshell. Don't expect to walk through the doors to be greeted with a cheery smile and to be pampered at various make up counters like in larger Boots stores, it ain't going to happen. In fact that is one of the qualms I have with this shop is the very limited stock of makeup they keep in store. The store has a good variety of brands for almost everything else except makeup where if I'm correct, only Rimmel is sold. It very often means a trip to another store such as Boots or Superdrug to purchase any makeup. Savers lacks the convenience other stores give as they don't have everthing under one roof! There is no pharmacy in store so again a visit to a chemist is required, this is definatley not a one stop shop! Also I have found in my local store that staff in Savers are not very knowledgable about...

Is the future electric?

Advantages: Zero emissions, quiet running, climate friendly, cheap to run
Disadvantages: Limited range, few power points, expensive to buy

...The British government recently announced that from 2011 they would contribute up to £5000 towards purchasing one of the new generation of electric vehicles that will become available. Is this a generous offer from a proactive government serious about climate change or a move from a desperate bunch of politicians? On face value it looks quite good but there are numerous questions that have been unanswered & throw doubt on their offer. They chose an unusual time to announce it, two days before a rather grim budget; surely it would have made more impact on budget day. Cynics would say they chose two days before the budget to divert attention away from the Damien Green nasty emails affair & the constant press attention to MP?s expenses. I have little time or respect for modern day politicians & tend to agree with the latter assumption...
