...toddler is around and worse still, if the door is shut the gas is automatically cuts off but when opened again it comes back but does not ignite so there is potential for quite a nasty accident if you are not careful. My other dislike is the knobs. One split after 14 months so I had to buy a new one at £11.75 which took 4 weeks to arrive and now another has split. I would buy another Stoves cooker but only if they have improved the things I don't like...

Electric Knights

Advantages: A fine work by the Deathstars
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little formulaic

...it's quite slow in tempo, but it's certainly got me trying to move in time as I listen. It glides along to a faster finish. A most satisfying start to the album. 7/10 2. "Night Electric Night" The second song is faster in tempo, although does alternate between faster and slower sections building up to a fast finish, which is something I demand and appreciate from the Deathstars. I love the finish of this. It also satisfies and makes me chair-dance. 7/10 3. "Death Dies Hard" I will deny you This world belongs to me This is apparently the first single from the album. It seems a pretty solid choice. To me, it feels like a James Bond theme, and the title certainly sounds Bond-ish. I like it. The keyboards remind me of a-ha, too. Throw out that old gas stove!

Advantages: Lightweight, easy to use, fuel and time efficent
Disadvantages: hard to clean

...The Trangia is a well established portable cooking device brand - Don't accept any Rip-offs.! The Trangia is an all-round good buy - every minute detail maximises the efficiency of the cooking: Beginning with the heart; the methylated spirit burner. The brass "cup" will hold approximately 150 ml of meths allowing you to cook for a good half hour without having to refill - Don't try and refill it when you've already lit it whatever you do! - Take it from my own personal experience - there will be bacon everywhere! Right through to the frying pan everything will cook quickly and easily - My personal favourite being bacon on my 25 series. Stoves 550 WL Freestanding Cooker

Advantages: Relatively robust , reasonable value., practical colours
Disadvantages: Grill door must remain open when in use

...cleaning, to date I have not needed to clean the oven, just wipe the sides and removable glass door liner. It has no timer, but personally I do not miss this feature and would not pay extra for it. Electrical supply is still required for the cooker since it has a fan, piezoelectric ignition for the burners, and a handy light within the oven. My one frustration is that the grill door has to remain open when in use. A more practical design would have facilitated using the grill space as a secondary oven at least to keep food or plates warm, but I guess the designer was probably by a man!! I don't doubt it will not last as long as my previous cooker, since all the materials are much lighter, and the pan supports even wobble a bit, but overall it is good value for a limited budget....

Is the future electric?

Advantages: Zero emissions, quiet running, climate friendly, cheap to run
Disadvantages: Limited range, few power points, expensive to buy

...The British government recently announced that from 2011 they would contribute up to £5000 towards purchasing one of the new generation of electric vehicles that will become available. Is this a generous offer from a proactive government serious about climate change or a move from a desperate bunch of politicians? On face value it looks quite good but there are numerous questions that have been unanswered & throw doubt on their offer. They chose an unusual time to announce it, two days before a rather grim budget; surely it would have made more impact on budget day. Cynics would say they chose two days before the budget to divert attention away from the Damien Green nasty emails affair & the constant press attention to MP?s expenses. I have little time or respect for modern day politicians & tend to agree with the latter assumption...

...I think it is fair to say that I was prepared and planned for Aleyna's birth. I spent the last 2 months of my pregnancy nesting, organising, obsessing, much to my husband's delight as I am normally a little slovenly!! However nothing could have prepared us for Aleyna spending 2 weeks in intensive care. I had already bought the Medela Electric breast pump, I knew I would be going back to work after a short time and I knew if at all possible that I wanted to breastfeed. When my milk had still not come in 5 days after Aleyna's birth (she was on a serum drip in the incubator so no milk for her at that stage), with a little help from the midwife I decided to focus on getting my milk supply going in order to give her the best start if and when she was able to take milk. Stoves 600CTH - buyer beware

Advantages: Smooth, clean, modern appearance
Disadvantages: PCB failed after 3 years use

...I bought this hob in December 2004 to replace my Phillips unit which had done excellent service over 12 years but was becoming dated. The Stoves unit appealed because of the clean and modern appearance and I believed Stoves was a name to be trusted. Fitting was quite easy as it slotted into the same space as the Phillips without cutting the worktop and initially the unit worked satisfactorily. The touch sensitive buttons were slightly unresponsive but not excessively so. However, I did notice that if anything covered the control section (even water) the unit would beep alarmingly - probably a safety feature. The hob was very easy to keep clean, no fiddly buttons to pull off to clean underneath, and the ceramic very durable. After 3 years of use the surface appeared as clean and smooth as if it were new. Trangia, indestructable stove

Advantages: Light, unbreakable
Disadvantages: Slower to boil, lack of fine flame control

...I have had my Trangia since 1989 after several years of experience using them and it is as good as the day I bought it. They are robust, and will last a lifetime. Unlike most liquid or gas stoves, the burner has no moving parts. Just fill with Methelated Spirits, (some water, to reduce sooting) and light with a match. The heat of the flame causes the fuel vapour to rise up the side channels of the burner and out through the small holes at the top. The rest of the stove looks like two pans, one inverted with air holes holds the burner, the second - the windshield holds the pan / frying pan. Once the burner is cool, you can seal it up with a cap. The O-rings are still good, and it has never leaked on me. On top of the lid you can store the flame control. Snug as a bug in an electric rug...

Advantages: No more cold feet, arms, legs, back...
Disadvantages: You'll want to stay in bed all day!

...with a single click the provided power adapter and plug to the inobtrusive socket at the side of the blanket - which is well out of the way of the sleeping area of the bed. The cable is quite long and would reach a power point in the wall directly behind the bed with no problems. The fleecy feel of the blanket is pleasant, but those with sensitive skin like me will probably find it best to put a normal fitted bottom sheet over the electric blanket for total comfort. Operational functions: Once the blanket is fitted according to the booklet it only took a couple of minutes to figure out the operating instructions. The control switch is situated in an easy to grip plastic console about 30cms away from the connection to the blanket.
