Ely cathedral

...A few weeks ago the present Mr Tart and myself spent the weekend in Cambridge. We were only a few miles away from Ely and despite some claims that he was ?History-ed' out he agreed to drive there on the Sunday morning. I was really excited about seeing the cathedral being a bit of a History nut. I love cathedrals and have a thing about seeing them whenever I go somewhere I havent been before. SOME HISTORY: An abbey was founded on the site in around 673 by Saint Etheldreda (youve got to love those Saxon names!). The cathedral was begun in the 11th century. The monastery part of the Cathedral was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539 and some parts of the Cathedral were destroyed, such as Saint Etheldredas shrine. Queens View, Elie - A Holiday Home that's a Real Home from Home

Advantages: Very homely, well equipped, excellent location, fab window seat, sea view
Disadvantages: Expensive in the summer - but so is everywhere in Elie. Not suitable for the infirm.

...Queens View is situated at 31 High Street, Elie in the Neuk of Fife in Scotland. It is a very comfortable and well appointed two bedroom second-floor, self catering flat. We stayed there for four nights during October 2009. We found it to be more than holiday accommodation ? it feels more like a home from home. The entrance and stairwell are carpeted and appear exceptionally well maintained and clean with artificial flowers and some real plants. There is a security entrance system and lights which automatically switch off after three minutes. Queens View itself consists of a twin bedroom, a double bedroom, a shower room, a dining kitchen and a living room. About Ely

Advantages: Pretty, things to do, nice character
Disadvantages: A few dodgy areas (but you get them everywhere)

...Ely is probably the only town worth visiting in the Fens of Cambridgeshire. All around it for many miles are unpleasant, violence-ridden villages such as Littleport, or grim flatland market townssuch as Downham market. But Ely, sitting on a hill with one of the most majestic cathedrals in England, is well worth a visit. Aside from the cathedral, it doesn't look that amazing when you walk out of the train station, but that says more about where many train stations are situated than anything else. Once you find the city centre, you'll see that the city (and it's quite a small city really) has a number of interesting shops as well, of course, as the cathedral itself. As I said, the cathedral is one of the best in England, and also features a stained glass museum on the first floor with some excellent works of art. It costs to go in...

Review of Ely (England)

Night - A Must Read Book.

Advantages: Short but packed with information a fantastic introduction to such a tragic and horrific time.
Disadvantages: None really, unless you're looking for a follow up epilogue, but there are other books/internet..

...When I rate this five for Excellent I am of course referring to the reading of the book, what you will gain from the important information and the quality of the narrative, not to the actual events it depicts. Night, by Elie Wiesel is a stand out book, as synonymous with the Holocaust as The Diary of Anne Frank. The testimony is of course rare, for there were few survivors and it's even more rare for it's full depiction of the death marches from Auschwitz, from which even less people survived. Each testimony to the holocaust is unique, I will not compare this to any others because the point of reading these is not to find 'the best story', 'the most horrifying', 'the easiest to read' etc. It is to really understand the terrible things that occured to each author and to those whose testimony would never be made. Advantages: Price is cheaper on a few items
Disadvantages: Small range, no regard for what customers want

...Due to Tesco having approximately 4 supermarkets all being nearest to us than any other companies. My local store is in Ely near Cambridge. --The stores-- Within Ely we have two stores - one is a moderately sized home and wear store selling clothes, magazines, cd's, dvd's and homewear etc... The other store located a bit further on the outskirts is the major supermarket that is more based (as it should be) on groceries, but also suplies some of the items that are sold at their other store but usually in a more limited range. For the purpose of this opinion I will be concentrating on the major supermarket, mainly because I use it more and it will give readers a more overall picture of the company itself. --The location-- The store is located next to the railway station within easy access to the A142 and A10. --The car...
