He has made a multitude of songs spanning over thirty years and has performed with artists all over the world.His record sales worldwide have topped the 100 million mark and out of the 30 plus albums he has made no less than 7 have been consecutive number ones in the usa. This particular double cd has all the hallmarks of an artist of great standing and his music speaks volumes.His partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is put together in 2 cd\'s of 30 songs which seem to have their very own genre.Its hard to put it in a catagory but when listened to i see it as mood music.It has ups and downs and depending on how you feel will determine which songs you choose. Find 'Your Song' amongst this plethora of Elton John classics

Advantages: 33 songs plus several hours of bonus features. All the Elton John favourites. Nice DVD case.

The TV version was shown earlier in the year to celebrate Elton's 60th birthday but was a mix of music & boring celebrity talk in between. This DVD focuses purely on the music & features the complete show live at Madison Square Garden in New York with a huge crowd including many famous names in the crowd such as Bill Clinton. The concert not only celebrates Elton's 60th birthday but also his record breaking 60th appearance at this stadium. Disadvantages: Only nine tracks

...If you love good music this album is a classic and a must for your collection. From 1971 it features very little commerical tracks but the classic Tiny Dancer & Levon are the first two tracks listed. Tiny Dancer was dedicated to the lyric writer Bernie Taupin's girlfriend Maxine. It is over six minutes long, a ballad in typical Elton John style with wonderful orchestral sound & harmonies. Other fabulous tracks include Holiday Inn, originally written in the late 1960s & never used until this album was recorded. the title track, Madman across the water is dramatic & haunting. Other memroable tracks include Indian Sunset, Rotten peaches & All the nasties. Raw, soulful, classic Elton & Bernie

Advantages: A sublime piece of the Elton John back catalogue, one of his best.
Disadvantages: Why isn't it a double album?!

...Tumbleweed Connection is often grouped with such albums as 'Elton John' and 'Madman Across The Water', as the building blocks of Elton's early career, helping to launch him and Bernie Taupin into the worldwide recognition they later received. For me, however, it is a standalone masterpiece of songwriting and composition, which sits head and shoulders above most of the competition. Elton's Finest Hour

Advantages: A phenomenal album, flawless.
Disadvantages: None whatsoever.

... Introduction Madman Across The Water is Elton John's fourth studio album and collaboration with songwriter Bernie Tuapin. When released, it was relatively low in the charts, reaching only #41 in the UK and #8 in the US where Elton was first hugely successful. This however is absolutely no reflection on what the album eventually became: one of his greatest ever albums and the birthplace of the massive hit 'Tiny Dancer' and the epic eulogy 'Indian Sunset' (both of which have recently been revived and somewhat plundered by rap artists, but thats another matter), and other memorable tunes such as 'Levon' and 'Holiday Inn', not to mention the surreal title track 'Madman Across The Water'. Elton.... We Love You.

Advantages: Its Elton John.
Disadvantages: Thera is not any, its Elton John for goodness sake.

...be about a drunk, living on the streets, but i am probably wrong, but you have to love the song, it is another superbly played, the piano is very much in this song again, you have many instruments. To me this song makes me think of the 60's in America, the jazz era when jazz was the main thing being played over there. Its a quality song, even if i aint 100% sure what is it about. Candle In The Wind 1997 (Princess Diana's Funeral) Now i am guessing on this day, when HRH Princess Diana was buried, you can remember exactly where you was, and if like me, you had the day off on the Saturday, you would have watched the Funeral on Television. Elton Johns Greatest Hits

Advantages: all the classics, suitable for all ages
Disadvantages: none

...This has to be one of the most played CD's in my collection at the moment. I was not a great Elton John fan before I received this CD but now it is played non stop - even my kids know the words to most of his songs by now. The title of his album is Elton JOhn Greatest HIts 1970 - 2002 and some of the songs on this album were released before I was even born but there is not one of the songs that I dont know (although there are a couple that I don't really like). There are 3 CD's in this case as I have a special edition which contain 2 cd's and a bonus one. The track list is extensive with 17 songs on each of the cd's and 11 on the bonus. ...example. One of my favourite albums is Elton John's 'Goodbye Yellowbrick Road' & it falls into this category. Five years into his career, he & Bernie Taupin wrote this double album & I often consider it to be their very best work. I know he has written many good albums since (and some dire ones) but this is the one that stands head & shoulders above all others. Elton cannot write lyrics & Bernie Taupin cannot write music, but together they have created some of the world's finest songs in the past 40 years. Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is a double album featuring 18 songs all produced by the late Gus Dudgeon. It features Elton's band members at the time, Nigel Olsen on drums, the late Dee Murray on bass guitar & Davey Johnston on lead guitar.
