Iomega Pro Hard Drive - triple interface is great
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Professional Silver Series Hard drive 500 GB by
davomrmac
Advantages: Build quality, good brand, lots of connection choices
Disadvantages: Medium speed
...Storage is all important, whether you need it for your day-to-day work, or for backing up those important files, you can never have enough of it. A lot of users are now turning to off-site storage solutions, such as Amazons S3 service. However, if you need something fast and reliable, then there is no other option that a desktop hard drive.
Iomega have been in this game for a long time. I remember with a warm glow, the day when the original Zip Drive was released. Wow, all that data on a tiny little disk, the size of a fat 3.5-inch floppy. Well, they kindly sent me there Professional Series Desktop Hard Drive, with triple interface to review. Offering up 500GB of storage, with USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and two FireWire 800 ports lined up across the back panel. It is also nice to see an on/off switch on the back too (many drives don't come...

Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive
Review of Microsoft Xbox 360 Hard Drive Hard drive 120 GB by
jammyd0
Advantages: Lots of space for all your gaming needs.
Disadvantages: Price, Dust, Missing GB
...My personal experience with the Xbox 360 hard drive has been fairly positive. The ability to store music, films, videos and of course games saves is one that no Xbox gamer should be without. 120 GB of memory is more than enough for the average gamer. The hard drive is well designed to blend with the console perfectly. It is small and easy to store.
However the price is pretty heavy compared to the cheaper 20GB versions. A problem with the memory is the fact that the hard drive does not actually have 120GB, obviously it wouldn't be exactly due to the need for the running files but several GB are actually missing. Regular cleaning is advised as dust tends to collect on the hard drive but a sharp blow into the docking port is sufficient to clear this.
All in all this product is an incredibly useful addition to any Xbox 360 gamers arsenal...

A treat for your vista
Review of Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500 GB by
0602409
Advantages: Fast and cheaper than others
Disadvantages: can always be cheaper
....
This is a serious buy, its not that much slower than enterprise hard drives like raptors. Raptors spin faster (10k rpm vs 7.2k rpm) and have lower latency but these benefits hardly show up to the average user at home and the drawbacks of much less HD capacity (36gb for the price of one of these western digital 500gb HDs) and also the running temp and noise of raptors are enough to warrent a purchase of the WD 500gb hard drive over any Raptor. Seeing as raptors are out of the Question (in my own opinion, although others will agree with me) you could go for something cheaper, but like i said, as you go down in price the value goes down a lot. For about 15 pounds less you end up with much slowers drives that dont have much capacity.
These drives deserve an award for such performance price ratio as well as capacity price ratio....

Very quick drive, Expensive though
Review of Western Digital Raptor WD360ADFD 36 GB by
jackmcintyre
Advantages: Super fast, the best on the market
Disadvantages: Maximum size is 160GB, very expensive.
...that even the 36GB Raptor is alot more expensive than some 150GB drives. This drive isn't really a budget drive for someone looking to build a simple home computer. However, its a great drive for the speed freak in you.

My Book? Pro. My Experience? Amateur.
Review of Western Digital My Book Pro Edition WDG1T2500 250 GB by
Radical-Machine
Advantages: Reliable High Quality WD Drive Inside, Good Looks
Disadvantages: Expensive, Blue Circular Space Indicator Useless
...spent has gone when you receive the package. I ordered it online, so I had no idea what I was actually going to get until it was delivered. The box is black and very stylish (again similar to Apple's packaging) and made of thick cardboard. When I opened the box I was very impressed! Here were the contents:
- the 250GB 7200RPM drive itself
- 2metre 9pin-9pin FireWire 800 cable
- 2metre 6pin-6pin FireWire 400 cable
- 2metre USB2.0 certified cable
- AC Adaptor (with both American and UK plug adaptors)
- EMC Retrospect Express and Drivers CD
- Quick Install Guide
I think Western Digital have been rather modest naming it "Quick Install Guide". It is in fact, a large glossy manual, with detailed instructions on using everything in the package. It's 48 pages long, admittedly multi-lingual (8 pages for English), but goes alot further than...

Super Raptor
Review of Western Digital Raptor WD360GD 36.7 GB by
bigdavep
Advantages: 10,000 RPM, SATA
Disadvantages: Size
...This hard drive is nothing short of fantastic. Right, straight to the tech details.
Its a 36gb hard drive. Now i first thought that its too small, but lets face it, this hard drive has been designed for being a main system drive and not a data drive so its only going to really have MS Windows, Office, A load of applications and games.
Its Serial ATA so it talks to the motherboard and processor at 150MHz which is 50MHz faster than most standard hard drives.
It spins at 10,000rpm. This means programs load quicker, it is also incredably useful for people who do video editing due to the quicker access times that the fast spin provides although those sorts of people may want to consider its bigger brother which has 74gb capacity.
The physical design of the product is outstanging, its designed to reduce noise and vibration, it also...

Best 7200.10 hard drive but still not perfect
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
neo1983
Advantages: Fast except multithread read, good capacity, stable, 5 years warranty
Disadvantages: Weak at multithread/multiple reads, a little noisy
...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives.
The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem.
Large capacity, 320 GB is more than enough (300 Gb real)
Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 75-80 Mb at large files
The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd)
Temperature IS OK.
Very stable and reliable
The not so good things:
Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 75 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb
A little noisy especially when many aplications are used
Conclusion. Good hard drive...

Internal 80 GB Hard drive.
Review of Acer Hard drive 80 GB by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: Quick transfer speed,
Disadvantages: Fairly Bulky
...What can i say this is an internal had-drive which obviously integrates within a computer system. Nowadays 80GB is not enough for anyone as programs are now increasing in size due to their complexity and what they have to offer.
A hard drive is a non-volatile storage device which stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Non-volatile storage is simply the name given to a storage device which can retain stored data even when not powered. With a volatile storage device being one that can not retain saved data e.g. RAM (Random Access Memory).
I used to have an 80 GB hard drive in the past on my "OLD" PC, which was about 5 years ago. Now i have a 300 GB hard drive which i have to admit is filling up really quickly. Due to the number of files stored e.g music, photo, video etc.
This particular hard...

Incredibly Capacious, but good Value
Review of Maxtor Hard drive 80 GB by
iMacfan
Advantages: Fast Small and 80GB!
Disadvantages: Nothing really
...After getting myself into the whole iMovie and DV camcorder thang, I realised that the tiny hard drive (10 Gb) in my iBook was not enough (1 hour of DV footage takes up 13 Gb), so I started looking for alternatives.
As Firewire is the only high speed connection on the laptop, I looked around. Most 30-40Gb Hard drives for Firewire (Also Sony i.Link) were £250, but I saw this one by Maxtor - 80 Gb for under £350.
The Box is smaller than I thought, and Graphite and ice to match the iBook, but it does come with an ugly and propriety power supply.
Very fast was my first reaction. It can stream DV footage without any dropped frames - and thats 5 Mbytes/s. So, unless you are doing pro DV or something really demanding there is no point in buying the 75Gb drives out there that cost over £700 - the extra little bit of speed is really...

Is it really worth the money?
Review of Toshiba Hard drive 320 GB by
tomliverpool
Advantages: Huge memory
Disadvantages: Some of Toshiba's external hard drives have a separate power cable
...I recently bought a Toshiba 320gb extrenal hard drive off ebay to store my mp3's, movies, documents etc.
The capacity of the drive is awesome. 320gb is almost too big. It was easy to install and I had it going within minutes.
The downfall of the hard drive I purchased, is that it is big, it is an eye sore, and it does not connect to your PC/laptop via usb. It has a separate power cable.
My advice would be to buy a smaller capcity hard drive which connect via usb. 320gb is far too much unless you have endless amounts of files.
For £90, it does what it says on the tin. However, DO NOT pay over £90 for a Toshiba hard drive!...
