Emily
Advantages: Fun for Thomas fans
Disadvantages: None
...Emily is a lovely little book in the 'My Thomas Story Library'. She is a single Stirling Engine and she is a dark green colour with yellow trims.
The cover of the book has a picture of Emily and above this is a pink banner with the title in yellow writing. The back cover of the book has smaller pictures of the other titles available in the collection.
THE STORY
The first page in the book has a introduction to Emily from the fat Controller, he tells us that when she first arrived on the island the other engines were very unfriendly to her but they soon learnt that things are not always as them seem.
The story starts by a new engine arriving on the island, the fat controller introduced the new engine to Thomas, her name was Emily. The Fat Controller then asked Emily to go and collect the coaches so that she could learn...

Emily's Story
Advantages: New slant to a horror movie, bit of religious insight
Disadvantages: Not sure - see review though
...I saw this film mostly out of curiosity, having seen the trailer, which features the hallucination of a University student turning round with black liquid pouring out of his eyes. I didn?t understand what it was meant to be but that freaked me out enough to make me want to watch the film ? so onto my rental list it went. I must admit my expectations were mistaken, but I blame the trailer for the impression it gave. Yes, it is a horror movie, but there is more to it than that and it is not a ?hide-behind-the-couch/popcorn/boyfriend/girlfriend/pet? type film.
The Story
This film takes place in two separate periods of time, so there are, in a way, two plots. Firstly, there are court proceedings against a priest, Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson), assessing his level of responsibility for the death of Emily Rose. His lawyer, Erin Bruner...

Emily Bronte's Great Story Of Hate
Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review
...Wuthering Heights is a tragic love story, and has even been labelled “Emily Bronte’s great story of hate.” And in a way, that’s true. Almost every character has a love/hate relationship, and isn’t scared of showing that hatred. Such hatred that isn’t normal in a person. Heathcliff is shattered after the death of his love, and the hate he shows towards people in the book isn’t normal, and is rather disturbing
Emily was brought up in the moors, and this is the setting for Wuthering Heights. She was brought up with her two sisters - Charlotte (The Professor, Jane Eyre) and Anne – (The Tenant Of Widfell Hall, Agnes Grey) and her brother Branwell. Her two other sisters had died young, and her Mother a year after Anne’s birth. This just shows the tragedy and loss that Emily went...

May I be Blunt?
Advantages: Some emotive music and lyrics
Disadvantages: It gets on your nerves after a while
...So, a dark haired male solo singer leaves the Army and releases an album. We've heard this all before, although that's the only comparison you're ever likely to see between James Blunt and Elvis Presley. Even this is a tenuous link, as Elvis was already a huge recording star before being conscripted into the Army, whereas Blunt wrote most of the songs on his debut album "Back to Bedlam" whilst seeing active service and left the Army to become a star.
Having been trusted enough in his previous profession to have been allowed to guard the Queen; he has reached the top of the album charts with this release, proving that a jack of all trades can be a master of all, with enough talent and effort. If the British Army is as good at fighting as James Blunt is as a musician, we call all sleep easy in our beds.
Blunt's debut begins...

To Be Blunt
Advantages: Some great tunes, mellow sound
Disadvantages: A few samey sounds
...You should never underestimate the closet Radio 2 listener. James Blunt is a great example of what can happen when you get some airtime, a little TV promotion, a good single and an interesting video. Back To Bedlam was a modest seller upon release, it was nothing spectacular and when You're Beautiful was released it entered outside the top ten.
But unlike every other single release, this was one that grew in popularity and actually climbed the charts and eventually took the number one spot for several weeks. Not only that but it helped to propel the album to the top of the charts dislodging Coldplay in the process. My theory for this incredible success is that James Blunt is probably a housewife favourite, they've heard his song on the radio and picked up the album on their weekly jaunt to the supermarket.
Now this may sound...

Blunt is like Marmite, Hate Him Or Love Him
Advantages: Great vocals, great musicians.
Disadvantages: Not everyone enjoys his music.
...This album review I have been wanting to do for awhile but I have struggled to write the final opinion on it, I've now practised with other albums I have in my collection so here it is.
Who is James Blunt?
James Blunt is a singer songwriter, who served in the British Army for 4 years of his life. He came out of the army and within 6 months he had signed a record deal.
In 2004, this album was released in the UK and his single You're Beautiful shocked everyone, and became one of the biggest selling singles of all time. This song was around for weeks and months and enjoyed by most people.
James has a very high falsetto voice, which for some if the downfall for James, he's not everyone's taste and a lot of people slander him and his voice, however the same amout of people love him and his voice. I myself think, well you...

The Life You Want by Emily Barr
Advantages: Great story to read, descriptive and interesting
Disadvantages: Would help if you read previous book
...I?d quickly popped in the library while waiting for my bus and saw that there was an Emily Barr book in the new part so I grabbed it. I hadn?t read an Emily Bar book for a while but remembered that I had really enjoyed the ones I had.
** The Plot **
The story is about Tansy a married Mum of two living in London who feels like she is missing something in her life. Her and her husband had met travelling and had always said they would return to India but he had got himself a good job in the city and she was busy looking after the kids and working from home part-time. Her friend Elly from travelling who now lives in India emails her and asks her to come out to help at the Children Centre she runs. Tansy is torn as she doesn?t want to leave her family and they refuse to come with her. As she starts steadily drinking more...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Being Blunt, I LIke It!
Advantages: Great tracks, talented musician/singer/writer, relaxing music.
Disadvantages: A bit samey in tempo
...2005 was a really good year for music, in my opinion, especially due to the amazing talent of James Blunt. His single You're Beautiful was number one for ages and is a song I never seem to have tired of since. In fact, I bought his album on the strength of that one song and wasn't disappointed.
James Blunt is an interesting bloke. I stumbled across his concert on the BBC earlier this month and was surprised to hear him speak, as he is rather posh! He also went to Sandhurst and became a soldier. I don't know quite what I had expected from seeing one video of him - except maybe a guy who liked sitting in the snow while wearing inappropriate clothing? - but that was well away from my idea of what he was like.
I like various styles of music from cheesy pop (Girls Aloud) to jazzier stuff (Will Young) to '70s pop (Abba) to prog rock...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...
