Emma - the annoying matchmaker
Advantages: Great costumes and storyline.
Disadvantages: Is Emma meant to be annoying?
...Rating: U
Run Time: 116 minutes
Directed by Douglas Mcgrath and based on the novel by Jane Austen.
Being a fan of the Bronte's and Jane Austen's books I thought I'd watch a adaption of Austen's book Emma, although I haven't read this movie it has made me want to read all the more!
Emma is set in the countryside and it is the 1800s, Emma is a busybody who tries to pair up her friends with men, but it always ends in disaster. As she continues to make a mess of her friends love lives she slowly begins to fall for her widowed brother-in-law.
Emma is played by Gwyneth Paltrow and it is wonderfully done, although I felt that Emma was a bit annoying.
I also loved the costumes, they looked very authentic and beautiful.
What I also thought was beautiful was the lovely scenery and houses.
Considering Gwyneth Paltrow is American she...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Make a match for yourself with Emma
Advantages: One of the funniest novels I've ever read, superb social observations, excellent writing
Disadvantages: Funny looks from strangers on the train...
...I picked up Emma more because I knew I should try Jane Austen as a fan of literature rather than a burning desire to read it. I wasn't expecting much; I knew Jane Austen is an extremely highly regarded writer, but I wasn't expecting more than an arbitrary romance with flowery prose. I was pleasantly surprised.
Emma is a young woman growing up in the rural early nineteenth century as the younger daughter of an aging wealthy father. We meet her as she struggles to cope with her governess leaving her to get married, leaving her alone with her father. She is catapulted into adulthood and has to deal with the responsibilities of this and her standing in the small village community, which includes taking care of the impoverished Mrs and Miss Bates.
She would've been perfectly happy to remain a child, looking after her father (Mr...

Thompson and Morgan, seedsmen
Advantages: Great range of seeds
Disadvantages: None
...Thompson and Morgan's catalogue (online and print) is interesting and filled with wonderful seeds you can grow. My wife is not keen on buying plants that have already been started. "Where is the fun in that?" she muses. "Don't people know the true joy of growing from seed?"
It has to be said that she has a good point and that the Thompson and Morgan website certainly helps her to fulfil her ambition of not buying ready started plants, buy providing a truly magnificent range of seeds that you can plant and thus grow yourself, from scratch.
The web site is easy to navigate and has simple, easy to read and easy to understand instructions for even the Internet virgin.
There's a cheery introduction by Michael Perry, the specialist project manager, which contains a promise that if you are not satisfied, then Thompson and Morgan will...

They weren't Twins & No-one was called Thompson
Advantages: Some great singles
Disadvantages: Some of the lyrics are a tad downbeat
...Looking on Ciao I was rather surprised to find no-one had done a review of these amazing 80's artists so as an 80's child and a very big fan indeed I felt it was my duty to write a review so here it comes.
Formed originally in 1977 with a massive 11 members the Thompson Twins (who of course took their name from the bumbling detectives out of artist Herge's Tintin comics) released 3 albums before really breaking big in both the UK & the USA. Into The Gap was their 4th release but the 1st with the "classic" 3 person line-up of Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway.
Bailey wrote words and music, Leeway provided percussion (and some backing vocals) and Currie played xylophone and provided backing vocals. On this album all 3 members of the band are given writing credits but Bailey wrote pretty much everything on his own.
So whats...

For Emma, Forever Ago - something special
Advantages: The chance to hear a new and important voice in acoustic music
Disadvantages: none
...of this singer-Songwriter. the beautiful melody of his guitar with his heartfelt tale of loss ends this album but leaves you wanting to go right back to the start and do it all over again.
Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago - you will not be disapointed if you enjoy artists such as Jeff Buckley, Ray Lamontagne, Sam Amidon...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Thompson and Morgan - definitely avoid!
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Customer service is non-existent
...I placed an order with Thompson and Morgan 4 months ago which they got wrong and I have now written three complaint letters trying to get the issue resolved and no-one has bothered to get back to me.
Their website states they will reply to all correspondence within 10 working days and yet I have been waiting for 3 months!!! I can't get over how completely unprofessional they have been. It is a miracle that they are still in business with that sort of attitude.
All that was required was an acknowledgement that an error was made and an apology now instead they have lost my custom for life. NEVER, EVER AGAIN!!
There are plenty of alternative suppliers out there so I would recommend everyone to avoid T&M!...

Emma-Austin would be proud !!
Advantages: Gwyneth Paltrow gets the character across perfectely
Disadvantages: Sometimes the language can be a bit confusing
...I am a normal teenager , who enjoys going out with friends and doing normal teenage things and so you wouldn't expect me to watch this film, let alone actually enjoy it!! But I did!! I enjoyed it so much, I watched it twice!! The first time, some of the language went a bit over my head, but the second time I understood it much better. There are witty jokes that did make me laugh aloud. Paltrow plays her character, Emma, with such style and with Emma being such a decieving, and sonetimes cruel, person then she has to be played with a certain subtelty which Gwyneth Paltrow pin points perfectely. The other actors/actresses are also fit in with their characters extrodinarily well. Emma sees herself as a match maker, but what she doesn't see is that whether you are upper or lower class, you can't help who you fall in love with, this is made...

Antony Worrall Thompson Saucepan Set is a hot product!
Advantages: Great value for money and look great.
Disadvantages: Not completely non -stick.
...I purchased the Antony Worrall Thompson Saucepan Set when I moved into my flat with my partner. I love cooking ( I am not too good at it mind you) so I wanted to get a good saucepan set that I wouldn't have to spend ages scrubbing to clean and would have a long lifetime.
In my opinion the saucepan's and one frying pan looked great. I bought the black and chrome set.
It came with 3 different sized saucepans, a milk pan, a 2 tier steamer and a frying pan. Everything you need really. It was good value for money and also had Antony's signiture on all the lids.
The only downside is the lids do get very hot that I have to use oven gloves to lift them off.
They are very non - stick which saves a lot of washing up time as I don't have a dishwasher. However I really put the saucepans to the test with scrambled eggs, Unfortunately it failed...
