Gran Torino is about a Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood), a grumpy Korean War veteran, who has recently been widowed, who lives in a Michigan neighborhood, where he is one of the last Caucasian Americans. Walt has many prejudices and has a difficult relationship with his children. One of the few things in life that brings him any pleasure is his Gran Torino car, which he keeps in mint condition. He soon finds himself involved in the life of the Hmong family who live in the house next door, after the son Thao (Bee Vang) tries to steal Walt?s Gran Torino as part of an initiation to join his cousin Hmong gang. Walt ends up getting closer to Thao?s family and takes measures to protect them from the gangs in the neighbourhood...

Eastwood Goes for Gold!

Advantages: Good Story, Great acting, Oddball!
Disadvantages: None come to mind

...kept in a bank behind enemy lines. Kelly is not put off by this and sets about getting himself a team together to go for the gold. The first member of the team is Oddball, who is in possession of 3 Sherman Tanks and he s willing to go along as long as he can take his men with him. Just how many more men will find a way of getting in on the gold trail with Kelly and will they finally manage to get through the enemy lines to reach this gold? I was quite surprised by this film as I did think it was going to be a typical war film which I would have no interest in but I have to say that I did in fact enjoy it. Thought that the storyline was good and could be very real but I doubt it ever really happened during the war but it was enjoyable to watch. This DVD is not my usual cup of tea, I'm not a particular fan of either westerns or Clint Eastwood, but on a wet afternoon recently, we decided to pass away a few hours watching movies and this DVD had been loitering in the back of the cupboard unwatched for ages. ...Clint Eastwood is a name that most households in the UK will be familiar with. The picture in most people?s minds will be that of Dirty Harry, or another character he has played, however not many people realize that his has become increasingly more present behind the camera as a director. His past efforts have not been that well received with the exception of 'Unforgiven', and he had taken a lengthy break, until he decided to take on this project. First of all, if you are going to watch this film, then give it your full attention from the very start. I watched it with my mum who paid little attention to the first 15 minutes, and then plagued me with pointless questions which spoiled my first viewing of the film as I was too distracted. Eastwood's Knock Out Blow

Advantages: Excellent script, performances and just generally a fantastic movie
Disadvantages: There aren't really any!!!

...There are a few films that I?ve been put off watching simply because of the subject matter. I find that boxing is one of those subjects. I?ve seen Raging Bull but beyond that I?ve not really been interested in films including the sport. That was until I came across Million Dollar Baby. I think it was more to do with the director, Clint Eastwood than the actual subject matter or anything else. It picked up a number of Oscar?s including best director and best leading actress and I guess that really whetted my appetite to see what all the fuss was about. Eastwoods best, Gran toino

...they travel upon Kowalski's property, the Ex-vet pulls out the old shotgun and scares off the gang merely to protect his land. In doing soo he caused angered them and the war has just begun, Can he survive, can he live, can he win?? Defiantly Clint Eastwood's best by far, He may have had past critical success in million dollar baby, But by a small margin this is great. With a great storyline and good acting from Eastwood's part this movie is a match made in heaven. Without Clint this would have been a second rate movie with little to offer. Is it good? that is the question and along the fact that major amounts of questions were raised by this issue?? racism,death,missing family. Most households have experienced one or the other.
