England Cricket Team Part 1
Advantages: Side hard to beat
Disadvantages: Often wrong team selected
...the winter England toured India. John Lever of Essex made a sparkling debut taking 7 wickets and scoring a 50.
1976
The West Indies toured England. Tony Greig lit the touch paper by wanting to make the West Indians grovel.
But it was Greig and his team that did the grovelling. The Windies won 3-0. Viv Richards was the top run scorer. Michael Holding’s bowling was devastating.
1977
The Australians returned. But England won the Ashes. Ian Botham made his England test debut. Naturally he took 5 wickets in his first bowl on a pitch which gave him no help at all.
Geoff Boycott scored his hundredth century against Australia at Headingly.
But at the end of the series the Kerry Packer controversy erupted. All the Australians were recruited to Packer’s circus and test cricket was in turmoil.

Flick Cricket Game
Advantages: An iPhone cricket game...
Disadvantages: ...very basic
...You may have noticed I've written the odd review or two about iPhone application games in recent weeks...and you'd be right. So here's another one - Flick Cricket.
There's a game doing the rounds on the internet called Stick Cricket which is extremely addictive and enjoyable...unfortunately the Flick version is completely different, and not quite up to the same standard; but then again this application is free for all you good, good iPhone users.
The game is based on a six-over match, where the user always bats first and then attempts to defend the total as the 'computer' chases it down. On the main menu there are a couple of options - Quick Facebook Game, New Normal Game, Continue Game and Connect with Facebook. Now, I've not delved into the world of the Facebook options, but I believe it allows you to upload photos for players...

Wild Cricket
Advantages: Animals in a Beautiful Setting
Disadvantages: Tranquillity Lost at Peak Times
...The BBC sit-com To The Manor Born, starring Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles, was filmed at Cricket St Thomas. The lovely valley setting of the grounds is where you will find the Wildlife Park. Just south of the A30 between Chard and Crewkerne, in Somerset. It is well sign posted from the main road.
This historic Manor was owned for centuries by barons, then Mr Fry, the chocolate manufacturer bought it in 1897. It passed to two other families before becoming a hotel in 1999 and is now owned by Warners. I will tell you a little more about that later. A free brochure is available in the wildlife gift shop, along with many other leaflets of interest to visitors to the area.
There are three pricing periods for the park, Peak, Off-Peak and Winter. This reflects the fact that like other great attractions, it can become a victim...

Cricket '97
Advantages: The birth of cricket on the PC!
Disadvantages: Well...it's getting on a bit!!!
...Forget Brian Lara Cricket. Don't even think about the new Cricket 2005 from EA Sports. This is where it all began! EA Sports original production - Cricket 97.
With the slight boredom of a jobless summer hanging over me, I opted to whip out this quite literally, old-school game, and then it struck me...what if I can actually review it?!?
And low and behold, I could! So, here's my best attempt...and please bare in mind how, in just nine years, the world of computer gaming has drastically changed.
Put it this way...it begin with, the case holding the disc features a picture of Ian Botham playing a cut shot, in early-nineties one-day clothing... oh yes, we're getting retro here
So once you've installed it onto your computer?oh and trust me, nowadays, there's no way your computer won't be compatible for it!! Through the advice...

Ashes Cricket 2009 - Guarantee an Ashes win (In your home)
Advantages: Cricket on the Wii!
Disadvantages: Maybe classic matches woudl have been good
..., but I will specifically deal with the version for the Wii. It is entitled Ashes Cricket 2009. It costs around £30 (I ordered mine early and got it for £25 from Amazon).
The Game
The game offers you the opportunity to take part in varying types of game. There are exhibition games, which can be of varying durations, between different teams. There are also a number of scenarios that you can tackle to unlock further scenarios. One example is the first England scenario, whcih is to survive five overs of spin bowling in a 20-20 context.
The one other mode is Ashes Mode. Funnily enough this allows you to play the current Ashes series between England and Australia at Cardiff, Lords, Edgbaston, Headingley and The Oval.
Finally there is a tutorial mode to teach you how to control the game.
This all seems fine and dandy...

Life as an England Cricketer
Advantages: A very honest and forthright account
Disadvantages: None
...Angus Fraser's book is based on diaries he kept throughout his career as an England cricketer, which were based mainly on his experiences of playing for England on tour in the 1990s.
The book shows the reader how life was really like as an England cricketer, through providing insights on incidents that took place behind the scenes on tour (One example being the scene in the dressing room after Mike Atherton's resignation as England Captain) and detailed journals that Angus kept of the more eventful test matches on tour that Fraser was involved in. He also includes his own account of England's test series at home prior to each of the tours he was involved in as well as the periods when he was not playing for England. Angus also provides his own views and insights on leading English figures in English cricketers (including Mike...

Celebrating England
Advantages: looks cute
Disadvantages: retired
...Everybody my age had TY beanies, they were adorable! My close circle of friends and I were huge collectors and between us we have most, if not all, of them going! One of these is England the Bear.
England:
The name is pretty self explanatory. This bear represents the country England. Whether it is bought as a souvineer by a tourist in England, or by somebody whose home country is England and they are proud of that, this bear is there to represent it.
Appearance:
To look at, England from a distance seems plain, almost like a basic white bear. Indeed, his fur is white, which goes hand in hand with the whiteness of the England flag. Around his neck there is a little red, white and blue bow - the colours of the Union Jack. This alone is cute, and then on his chest you will notice a little England flag has been stitched on. This adds to...

...with a replica of the Ashes, regardless of whether England or Australia (as has been the case since 1989) have won the Ashes Series. There is also a stuffed sparrow, killed whilst flying across the pitch as Jehengir Khan bowled to TN Pearce in 1936.
If you take one of the Organised tours of Lords Cricket Ground (approx £6 for adults, £5 for OAPs and Concessions and £4 for children) then the tour also includes a trip to the Cricket museum. Alternatively the ground admission price to the ground on matchdays includes entry into the cricket museum, so if you go to a rain-affected match, then you can at least go to the museum to stave of the gloom of no play.
For people who have not been to the museum since it was renovated in 1993, it is well worth returning to, as there have been a lot of new exhibits added, including a lot of film coverage...

The Southern Hemisphere's Home of Cricket?
Advantages: Excellent all round views, cheap tickes, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: expensive food wth poor choice
...Being a huge cricket fan, a trip to the MCG was always going to be one of the highlight's of my cricket club's tour to the Golden Country.
Before we'd even got into the ground I was totally overawed, the sheer size of the ground was just so far greater than anything that a cricket fan can envisage in this country. The ground hold 100,108 people - to put this into context the largest ground in England holds just under 30,000!
The first thing you see when walking up to the ground are the eight massive floodlight pylons designed to allow day/night cricket - again, there are no grounds in England with permanent floodlights.
We had our tickets in our hands - printed off with the barcode folded over the correct way and headed through the turnstile. Here was one feature that I was so impressed with, despite the fact that 65,000 people...

The Cricketers Pub
Advantages: large garden, BBQ's held on Sunday, cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere
Disadvantages: A little out of town
...The Cricketers Pub is located in the village of River, just outside Dover. It is located right next door to Crabble Cricket, Football and Rugby Grounds.
I like the Cricketers pub as it certainly has a village feel to it, and you tend to get a good crowd of people in here because it is not in the main town, and doesnt attract young drunks!
The Pub
The bar inside is fairly large with plenty of seating. There is a large plasma TV which shows various sporting events such as football, tennis and rugby games. There is a lower level to the bar area, and in here are a couple of gaming machines as well as pool tables. In one corner there is also a dart board. To the left of the pool tables, is a small corridor which leads out to the male and female toilets. If you walk past the toilets, you will find yourself in the pub garden. There is...
