Torquay
Advantages: Beaches, attractions
Disadvantages: English weather
...Torquay also known as 'The English Riviera' got its name from the ancient Saxon hamlet of Torre and the Quay it sits on. Well known for its mild climate, there are many palm trees growing all around the area. Torquay was made popular in Victorian times, I'm sure many people reading this review will have visited Torquay on holiday as a child.
Torquay is made up of many regions, which have been added to over the years. The Willows, Watcombe, Saint Marychurch, Babbacombe, Wellswood, The Warberries, Ellacombe, Plainmoor, Tormohun (although this is known locally as just Torquay town centre), Torre, Livermead, Shiphay, Barton, Cockington, Chelston, Upton and Hele village.
There are many beaches in Torquay, obviously some busier than others. While some are easy to get to, others are hidden away or quite steep to get to. 2 examples...

Torquay's best hotels on one site
Advantages: So much to do, nice rooms, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None
...~*~*~TLH LEISURE RESORT~*~*~
The business was originally established in 1947 by Joyce and Cifford Murell. Still owned by the family, there are now 4 hotels spread across 7 acres. The hotel complex offers 440 en suite rooms and 29 self catering units. Each hotel specialises in something different, from functions to conferences and family breaks to dancing holidays.
~*~*~LOCATION~*~*~
The hotels are located on a triangular site in the middle of Belgrave road, Chestnut Avenue and Falkland road. The site is set behind Torre Abbey and a 5 minute walk to Torquay's sandy beach.
~*~*~HOTELS~*~*~
-Toorak;
The 3 star hotel has 92 en-suite bedrooms. It has an award winning resturant with 2 RAC Dining Awards, the Conway Bar and Terrace and the Chatsworth Suite. There is also Buckingham lounge with comfortable...

Hotel Geneagles, Torquay. very faulty
Advantages: non
Disadvantages: room poor, food cold and extra unexplained charges
...The Best Western Gleneagles describes itself as been located in a chic area of Torquay which is about 12 min taxi ride from the station, It boasts 41 modern rooms many of which have ocean views and all of which have private balconies, all rooms are tastefully designed with en suite bathroom, TV, hairdryer and hot drinks refreshment tray. Prices can vary depending on the time of year you visit this hotel and if any special offers are present.
I myself was attending a trade show in Torquay and required a smoking room of which I was informed this hotel has 11 such rooms for those wishing to smoke, the rest of the hotel is of course non smoking to comply with regulations. This was a prime reason for choosing Gleneagles for my Torquay hotel as many other hotels are totally non smoking.
I arrived late afternoon and was informed that...

Entertaining Indeed
Advantages: varied products, something for everyone
Disadvantages: could add more sub-categories perhaps
...The Entertainment section of Ciao is probably the one I use most, being very keen on both reading and writing opinions in this category. It has quite a wide brief, as it includes eight main sections - Films, Books, Music, TV, Radio, DVDs, Videos, Newspapers and Magazines. Each of these then has a number of sub-categories, meaning that hopefully, everyone can find something of interest.
For example, the Books category is divided into Fiction, Non-Fiction, Plays, Poetry and Writer's Corner. The first four are fairly obvious in their content, but the Writer's Corner was new to me and being a wannabe novelist and sometime poet, I was interested to explore this further.
The Writer's Corner is then sub-divided into Literary Criticism and Theory, Writer's Websites and (similar to the category I am now writing in) Member's Advice On. This...

Torquay - a great place to be, by the sea
Advantages: Loads to do, caters for all ages
Disadvantages: In bad weather you can't appreciate the views
.../ couples: this town has got fantastic nightlife and loads of activities to keep you entertained during the day
b) family holidays: Torquay is a great place to have a family friendly holiday with the numerous safe beaches, tourist attractions and plenty of places to eat
c) 'older' people: there are great places to stay and fantastic walks and activities.
Nightlife:
Torquay is absolutely buzzing at night in the holidays, be they Xmas, Easter or Summer hols, everyone comes out to play! There are so many bars and pubs you'll be overloaded with choice! The nightlife is mainly focused around the marina (off the top of my head I can think of 10 bars in that one small area!), however there are some excellent bars further up town including 'Rhythm & Blues' & 'Chaplins'.
Torquay has around 6 nightclubs in the main town centre. The four main...

Entertain to Entertain
Advantages: Well maintained and plenty of good ops available
Disadvantages: Some glaring omissions in the books category
...I have found some success and recieved good feedback on my opinion about the games category, so I thought i would give it a go in the somewhat more competitive entertainment category. Time to test myself against the big guns.
The first thing to note about the entertainment section is that there is such a wide berth of products available, from films to videos, computer games to restaurants, books to days out. You can find it all in this section.
When you actually look into the sections you will soon find why it it so popular. These are the products that most people want to use, a night out is something people do often and want to get right, so reading an op on the place before going is only common sense. Because of this the opinions tend to get more reads.
By far the most popular topics in here are the latest film...

Entertain yourself at Ciao
Advantages: good writing talent, relevant to me, good variety
Disadvantages: beware the churners, no teletext
...Slap me on the head and scrutinise my eyes, I'm in a mood of the inane kind. Having said that, or rather typed it, I'm here to give ciaoers the low down on the entertainment section, yesireee!
For those of you that have had the misfortune to encounter my work prior to this moment, you may have noticed, being the mandible that I am, that my opinions rarely stray from that which is the ENTERTAINMENT section. Why is this? Well, TV, games, music, books are a huuuge chunk of my life, and I really need to get out more. Being the evercretin that I happen to be, I tend to only read opinions that fall under that category too, although I have been known to stray from time to time, although probably not that often. Entertainment is of course a large part of many people's lives, so I reckon(yes, I'm wrong about this) that a large chunk...

Entertaining category to write for
Advantages: Huge number of products, great variety in styles of writing, constant evolution of products, competitions regularly
Disadvantages: Opinions don't always agree with yours
...Entertainment has to be one of my specialist subjects on ciao. I have always been a great fan of TV, Film and Music especially, since I write my own plays and music and watch as many films as possible. Since there is so much available in the entertainment area on ciao, and there is such a wide variety of things to read and write about, it's a category that I often find myself visiting, to catch up with what I've missed and any new releases (or old ones) from bands that I like the sound of, and, of course, those I don't.
I find Ciao extremely detailed and easy to use all over, not least in this region. There is so much to see across the region, covering Books, soundtracks and music retailers, to CDs, DVDs, gigs and TV shows. The thing that always amazes me is the number of sub-categories 'Entertainment' contains. For example, in Music...

Torquay, this is the English Riviera
Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: Very hilly
...Fayre and of course not forgetting Wetherspoons with their cury and steak clubs.
Places to drink are too numerous to count, lots of places for younger people including clubs and discos, we enjoyed sitting at the outside bars by the Marina and found 1 or 2 quieter pubs more to our liking.
If you like to shop you won't be dissapointed, the town centre is quite big mostly pedestria, although buses and service vehicles and the odd car do drive through. there are plenty of shops to keep you busy, although not many selling fudge ( my favourite ).
To sum up, if you get good weather you can't lose, good food and drink, plenty of entertainment especially for the younger generation and plenty of places to visit within 30 minutes drive.
If We don't go abroad next year it will be hard choice between Torquay and Newquay where we went last year...

Meadfoot Bay Hotel,Torquay.
Advantages: Great hospitality, comfy clean rooms, cracking breakfast!
Disadvantages: Distance from the centre of Torquay
...Both my Husband and I were looking to get away last minute (8th & 9th August '06) and decided to set our hearts upon Torquay. We have visited Torquay before but haven't had the pleasure of staying so off I went on Google to search for hotels/guesthouses in Torquay.
I stumbled across the Meadfoot Bay Hotel and I thought it was great that they had their own website www.meadfoot.com. I browsed the pages and was happy with what i saw, so decided to pick up the phone to see if they had any availability.
Lucky for us, they had 1 room left which was a double and incidentally was room No.1.
The hotel itself is set 200m from Meadfoot bay (a superb, quiet spot with excellent walks and a lovely beach). I decided to take my beautiful sparkly high heel shoes but unfortunately couldn't wear them as we were looking at a 15min walk to...
