...This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most electronic products, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. ...At last, a miracle in SLR technology. The Canon EOS focuses back to the 'old school' photographers world and can help even an amateur into a new dimension of imagery. Memory storage is not a problem with a fully accessible and easy to use flash space. Weighing less than a kg, the camera can be carried with minimal effort to any location (be it jungle to skyscraper). A fully adjustable shutter speed can help you capture those city lights to moving people. There are no limits to this SLR, and with a price of around £700, its well worth the spend. ...There are many more qualified than myself to write a technical review of this camera, so I will concentrate on my personal impressions since buying one recently as a used item. I got the EOS1n HS with the Ni-Cd rechargeable battery option for power. This is the same as the standard EOS1n HS, but the battery holder is replaced with a solid rechargeable Ni-Cd battery pack. The standard battery holder can still be used, as a back up, so there is less danger of being left stranded by a dead battery pack. The kit I bought, for the sum of £450 UK consisted of EOS1n body, PB-E1 booster pack, 2 Ni-Cd battery packs, 1 mains charger and 1 battery holder for alkaline batteries. It offers the following with all EOS 50/Elan 500n and EOS Rebel cameras. 1. Auto flash 2. FP flash this is the high speed sync 3. Fe lock to lock the exposure you require and not the one recommended by the system meeter. 4. Bounce flash 5. Standby mode this leaves the flash charged but switched off 6. Auto zoom between 24-105mm 7. Flash exposure confirmation With all other EOS systems the camera has limited use . The flash takes four AA size batteries which should last for about 1000 flashes. ...I have now owned my Canon 40D for just over a week and I'm still finding my way round the features,comparing it to my previous camera,(Canon 10D)is like comparing a a carthorse and a racehorse. 10.1 megapixels,a 3inch screen and 6.5 frames per second shooting all combine to make this the best digital camera I've ever owned,(and I've owned a few,mostly compacts) Shooting at 6.5 frames per second for the first time is an awesome experience,it made me jump the first time I tried it and it filled the memory card up very quickly,I was using the combined Raw and JPEG shooting feature,not that you need to use this every time. The 40D is a really solid piece of kit and I'm expecting to get many years of use out of it,as I have from my Canon 10D. ...came upon this camera by accident. I was buying a spare camera for my wife who wants to take up photography. I was using a EOS1V. Then, I decide to shift to all manual. I am current using F3HP + FM3A. On every weekend, I like to go plane spotting. It is difficult not to use auto-focus camera for this purpose. This camera then become my tool! It has logged more miles than my Nikon now. I am seriously wondering, with the good experience of this 300v, should I purhcase the new EOS30V. I forgot to mention, I hate digital camera. 300V has many good advantages. It is light and ergonomic to hold (I have big hand, even without the battery grip, I still told this camera well) The kit lens, though look cheap and ugly, is actually quite good for general photography. ...Probavly the best digital slr for the experienced user on the market. The only two things that are seperated from this camera from the 5D and 1 series cameras is a full frame sensor as well as more megapixels. The last camera made previous to this was the 30D. Lots of changes have been changed since that including a higher mega pixel count, a 3inch LCD screen, intergrated sensor cleaning, custom shooting modes and the most significant upgrade is the cameras ability to show the image on the screen with its new live view sensor. With all the new technology in the camera, you would expect it to be challenging to use. However a new style menu system as well as the camera settings being constantly shown at the bottom of the view finder as well as the lcd panel, makes it a very easy camera to use. ...I wont go into any technicality with this camera,i will say that i am a semi pro photographer that posess the canon eos mk 3 and the canon eos 400d as a general back up.The canon eos 50e will take pride of place in my equipment arsenal as a film camera. I have had this camera for several years and some of my work from this has been exhibited.I like the overall design,ease of use and the robust feel.It has travelled extensively also with me. I agree with the other reviews that the battery grip is a must as it really gives a good strong feel in the hand and adds weight which i like.Dont use cheap batteries as they dont work which i found out while in Norway.Invest in a good medium sized camera bag for this camera with the battery grip. I rarely have used the built in flash and i never use the auto features with exception of the eye... Read review
