Advantages: very playable
Disadvantages: short sustain

...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

Epiphone delivers

Advantages: Looks and sounds great
Disadvantages: needs a little tinkering to get just right

...I bought the Epiphone Thunderbird from Merchant City Music online, having never played it, for aroung £230, purely because it looked great. A fairly conceted reason for buying a guitar I know but I have to say I am very happy with it. I did some research before buying it and was aware of the "neck dive" problem before purchasing it. On receiving the bass (the very next day from placing order) I quickly rectified the problem by fixing a strap button to the back of the bass, why epiphone don't fit these as standard is beyond me, problem solved! I also removed the cheap looking plastic volume pots and replaced with die-cast black metal ones. The bass itself, despite it's looks, doesn't lend itself to pick players becasue of the positioning of the pick-ups. Acoustic Pollutions

Advantages: Simple to use
Disadvantages: Dodgy cd player and obnoxious smell

...~~ Purchase ~~ I bought my SP122 at Argos over two years ago along with a compatible and matching Acoustic Solutions SP101 Amplifier, Acoustic Solution SP111 DAB/FM Tuner and a pair of Acoustic Solution AVCS Column Stereo Speakers. I took advantage of a deal that was on offer at the time whereby if you bought the amp, tuner and CD player you would receive the speakers for free. ~~ Set up and Appearance ~~ This is an easy to use and uncomplicated CD unit. It's easy and straight forward to set up and attach to other units. I must admit though, it looked much better in the Argos catalogue than it does now that I have it set up in the living room. Review of Acoustic Solutions SP-122

Epiphone G-400

Advantages: Great attack and sustain for a good metal/rock style of play.
Disadvantages: Not particularly well balanced.

...The epiphone g400 is a stunning guitar. Its looks is what attracted me to it first and formost in the shop. After having a go in the shop i was completely blown away! The sound that this thing can make is unbelievable in respect to the price tag. It is exceptional value! The alnico humbuckers pruduce a great crunchy sound for distorted rock/metal style of playing. It has plenty of attack and great sustain. It has quite a wide neck which makes it easier (for me inparticular) to finger some chords (like an A) where on other guitars my fingers would be squashed up and would make playing the chord uncomfortable. But this is not the case on the g400. The action is very good too. And if it is not to your preference then changing and tweaking this guitar to your liking is almost too easy! I have had this guitar for over a year now...

Epiphone SG

Advantages: Beautiful guitar. Excellent sound. Very playable.
Disadvantages: None whatsoever!

...The Epiphone SG - the cheaper younger brother of the Gibson version, but it's certainly a worthy substitute. It's dark cherry colour, dark wooden neck and black scratch panel are excellent on the eye, and with it's symmetrical body it is one of the best looking guitars out there! The strings are raised higher in their saddle on the SG than say on a Fender, which is more ideal for lead guitarists out there, but being a rhythm man myself, there is no inconvenience whatsoever. I like to use Ernie Ball .9 Slinky strings on it, and they fit just about perfectly - you could probably squeeze some .11's in there easily enough if you really wanted to and if you played quite a lot of heavier music. Two pickups sit on the bridge, and three pickup selections are available - rhythm, middle and treble, depending on what takes your fancy...

Epiphone Les Paul Studio

Advantages: Sweet clasic sound of truck Rock & Roll
Disadvantages: Quite heavy

...I would have to say haveing not owned but played all of them the Studio would have to be the best Epiphone Les Paul i have played. Which is uppose is why i bought it. At £260 reduced from £350 it is a very nice second or third guitar, depending on your finacial posision. I think out of all the mainsteam guitars on the market has the largest could variety i have ever seen. At least 15 Different shades of sunburst, not to mension the different shades of hardware. It gives a perfect soud unique to the Gibson and Epiphone ranges. I would be carful not to be confused as a first time buyer for repicas such as "Vintage" or "De-Amon" who have never beed able recreate the true Gibson sound. As guitar shop sales are common it is definetly a guitar to look out for!!...

...I personally love these guitars. i Bought one around 4 years ago when learning to play, it has never failed me, and has served me through many gigs. These guitars are gorgeous and affordable, of course, i wanted the Gibson version, but could not afford it, but these are definitely the best under a grand version. One of the few criticisms i have, is that they are quite heavy, (Only when compared to light guitars) which can impeed rocking out on stage, but once your used to it, it's fine. there are cheaper versions ranging around £ 100-250 (not necessarily epiphone) but my experience of these have been disappointing, and so it seems to be worth spending the extra few pounds to get a guitar that will last you and that sounds great too, complimented with the right amp, these guitars are wonderful. Epiphone Gothic Les Paul Studio

Advantages: Good, playable and easy to use standing or sitting.

...The Epiphone studio guitar that I own is the "limited edition, Gothic ,studio ,les paul" and therefore unsurprisingly this is the guitar I am reviewing. The Epiphone Gothic les paul is not to distant to it's Gibson cousin, it contains the same electronics and additional metal-wear (machine heads, dial heads etc.) the only major difference is that the Gibson is handmade and so costs a fortune! The Epiphone is a body heavy guitar but is also still very light when compared to something like a B.C. Rich Warlock. The Gothic les paul maintains the good tone and over all sound you would expect from Gibson but at Epiphone prices! Clean Channel --------------------- On a clean channel this guitar provides a good blues sound perfect for .....well blues. If given the slightest overdrive it makes for a brilliant jazz...

Advantages: Very versitile.
Disadvantages: Quite heavy compared to most guitars.

...To do this product the correct justice as a twin neck I'm going to review each neck (each half of the guitar) as a seperate piece then tie them together at the end. 6 string ------------ Clean channel --------------------- This guitar provides a beautiful tone on a clean, easily out-doing single neck SG's on resonance and sustain, however like the single neck SG's it does have quite a high attack on notes making it somewhat jangly, but this can be solved by turning down the gain on your amp. This ,however, is only true of the lead (bridge) humbucker. The neck humbucker provides a much thicker warmer sound, much like that of a good quality bass guitar. I highly recommend the neck humbucker for acoustic playing. Over-driven ---------------- Stay away from the neck humbucker with this thing on over-driven channels...
