review of Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: very playable
Disadvantages: short sustain

...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

Epiphone EJ-200

Advantages: Big sound, Big tone
Disadvantages: Big body is not good for some tastes

...First off, I will explain quickly the main specifications on this beautiful guitar: Spruce top, Maple back, sides and neck, Jumbo sized guitar, No cutaway. This guitar is absolutely gorgeous. If you find a picture of it, you will know exactly what I mean. First impressions on this guitar are that it looks wonderful, and is a very big bodied guitar. This may take some getting used to, but after the first few plays, it becomes easier. The tone on this guitar is well suited for many aspects of playing; I personally am an indie/rock player, but it suits blues and plays jazzy styles well too. It isdefinitely more of a strummers guitar than a solo-ers (if that's a correct term) guitar. THe higher frets are harder to reach, and with no cutaway, getting above 15 is pretty hard. The neck is very smooth and fast to play on, almost begging...

THE best electro acoustic guitar!

Disadvantages: Rounded back can be awkward at first.

...If you have read some of my other guitar reviews, you will know im a bit of a collector of guitars. In fact, you could almost say its an obsession. Therfore no collection would be complete without an axe from one of the world's finest and best known acoustic producers. Ovation. I own the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which i believe is the finest looking in the Ovation range. However, you will also know that from my other reviews, Im left handed with the guitar which narrows your choice in colour. For a Right hander, the choices include, Black, Natural, Wine, Green and a sunburst effect top and also available in vasious mapel finishes. Im afraid to say my only choice was Black. Still it does look rather fetching and contrasts well with the Marquetry effect leaves around the multiple sound holes. Being an Ovation, it does come...

Epiphone Les Paul Studio, a little too evil?

Advantages: Build quality, Bridge pickup, Hardware
Disadvantages: Weight, Finish

...Firstly i'd like to say that for me this guitar looks rather drab and boring, as it is so plain and all in black. There is no contrast in colour and doesn't really stand out. But with that now said, i will go onto the other aspects. It has the standard les paul fittings, which are sturdy and reliable, and the tuners that hold their tuning very well. The pickups are high output and sound very heavy, which is ideal for hard rock and metal. The neck pickup sounds a bit too heavy and doesn't sound great with only light distortion but sound good clean. The guitar is quite heavy in weight and can make my shoulder ache if i've had it on the strap too long. But the weight is only due to the mahogany it is made from. It is buit very well and is also sturdy. The fitted neck is very nice and adds to the build quility....

Advantages: great sound
Disadvantages: need a decent amp to go with it

...Well what a guitar this has to be my favourite guitar that i own. It looks great, sounds great and lets just face it its great. On stage it has never let me down it never sounds bad though this may because of my marshall amp but the two go together nicely. You may say that its the cheap version of the Gibson you would be right but it uses basicly all the same things its just the gibsons are hand made. The clean sound on this guitar is great sounds good if you want to do some old tunes like jonny b good or the classic summer of 69 obviously you can do them distorted but i thought that they sounded fantastic on clean. Well when my band wanted to do the darkness in the concert i thought i would use a much rocky guitar than this so i tried my flying v but i thought naaa tried this and the distorted sound was just incredible i manged...

Semi hollow, but a whole guitar!

...I've owned an Epiphone Dot for over a year now, so I know it intimately. Well, as intimately as a man can get with a guitar anyway! I guess I'll start with the basics for anyone who's just starting out. The Dot is a semi hollow electric guitar, This means thats it has a solid block of wood running lengthways through the body, but has hollow chambers on either side. This means it is more audible than a standard solid electric guitar unplugged, but plugged in has the added bonus it is less prone to unwanted feedback than fully hollows. It has 2 humbucker pickups, a 3 way selector switch which lets you use youre different pickups at different time, and 2 independant tone and volume controls. Humbuckers give a more earthy, full sound than single coil pick ups, and are perfect fodder for some overdrive, yet are equally at home with clean...

...So I'm sat here in my room at my halls of residence playing on my acoustic electric guitar, when it hit me..."could I review this on Ciao?"...yes, I could!! Applause Guitars are the younger brother of guitar manufacturers Ovation, who have been making trustworthy guitars for over 30 years now, and here have used this experience to make a guitar that doesn't sound like a guitar that is as cheap as this, but is a high-quality product. My model number is actually the AE 28, rather than the 64, but trust me, from what I know about Ovations and what else I can work out, there are no differences here except the numbers! I brought it in November last year from a local music retailers, who I purchased my two other guitars (both electric), so trusted them fully when they recommended me this offering, and they've not let me down...

A really great guitar

Advantages: Beautiful sound, build quality and great price

...Epiphone, there are some real good pluses for Epiphone, price being the biggest. It may not be of the same quality but this guitar really packs a great sound and I am happier to drop this on the ground than I would a Gibson. If you have money to burn go for a Gibson, if not, you are getting a whole load of guitar at the Epiphone price. All in all a great guitar that I would highly recommend to anyone considering buying an acoustic guitar or even this particular model, its a lot better than the guitars that can be bought elsewhere for the same or even dearer price....

Epiphone Les Paul Studio

Advantages: Sweet clasic sound of truck Rock & Roll
Disadvantages: Quite heavy

...I would have to say haveing not owned but played all of them the Studio would have to be the best Epiphone Les Paul i have played. Which is uppose is why i bought it. At £260 reduced from £350 it is a very nice second or third guitar, depending on your finacial posision. I think out of all the mainsteam guitars on the market has the largest could variety i have ever seen. At least 15 Different shades of sunburst, not to mension the different shades of hardware. It gives a perfect soud unique to the Gibson and Epiphone ranges. I would be carful not to be confused as a first time buyer for repicas such as "Vintage" or "De-Amon" who have never beed able recreate the true Gibson sound. As guitar shop sales are common it is definetly a guitar to look out for!!...

...The Epiphone studio guitar that I own is the "limited edition, Gothic ,studio ,les paul" and therefore unsurprisingly this is the guitar I am reviewing. The Epiphone Gothic les paul is not to distant to it's Gibson cousin, it contains the same electronics and additional metal-wear (machine heads, dial heads etc.) the only major difference is that the Gibson is handmade and so costs a fortune! The Epiphone is a body heavy guitar but is also still very light when compared to something like a B.C. Rich Warlock. The Gothic les paul maintains the good tone and over all sound you would expect from Gibson but at Epiphone prices! Clean Channel --------------------- On a clean channel this guitar provides a good blues sound perfect for .....well blues. If given the slightest overdrive it makes for a brilliant jazz...
