Epiphone Gothic Les Paul Studio

...The Epiphone studio guitar that I own is the "limited edition, Gothic ,studio ,les paul" and therefore unsurprisingly this is the guitar I am reviewing. The Epiphone Gothic les paul is not to distant to it's Gibson cousin, it contains the same electronics and additional metal-wear (machine heads, dial heads etc.) the only major difference is that the Gibson is handmade and so costs a fortune! The Epiphone is a body heavy guitar but is also still very light when compared to something like a B.C. Rich Warlock. The Gothic les paul maintains the good tone and over all sound you would expect from Gibson but at Epiphone prices! Clean Channel --------------------- On a clean channel this guitar provides a good blues sound perfect for .....well blues. If given the slightest overdrive it makes for a brilliant jazz...

Advantages: Excellent durability and sound,

...I personally love these guitars. i Bought one around 4 years ago when learning to play, it has never failed me, and has served me through many gigs. These guitars are gorgeous and affordable, of course, i wanted the Gibson version, but could not afford it, but these are definitely the best under a grand version. One of the few criticisms i have, is that they are quite heavy, (Only when compared to light guitars) which can impeed rocking out on stage, but once your used to it, it's fine. there are cheaper versions ranging around £ 100-250 (not necessarily epiphone) but my experience of these have been disappointing, and so it seems to be worth spending the extra few pounds to get a guitar that will last you and that sounds great too, complimented with the right amp, these guitars are wonderful. Epiphone Les Paul Studio

Advantages: Sweet clasic sound of truck Rock & Roll

...I would have to say haveing not owned but played all of them the Studio would have to be the best Epiphone Les Paul i have played. Which is uppose is why i bought it. At £260 reduced from £350 it is a very nice second or third guitar, depending on your finacial posision. I think out of all the mainsteam guitars on the market has the largest could variety i have ever seen. At least 15 Different shades of sunburst, not to mension the different shades of hardware. It gives a perfect soud unique to the Gibson and Epiphone ranges. I would be carful not to be confused as a first time buyer for repicas such as "Vintage" or "De-Amon" who have never beed able recreate the true Gibson sound. As guitar shop sales are common it is definetly a guitar to look out for!!...

...When it comes to buying guitars, there's a lot of discrepancy about who makes the best guitars, who has the best sound, which guitar looks cooler...... the list goes on. The main argument seems to be whether Gibson or Fender are the better manufacturer. For me it has to be Gibson! The Les Paul it just oozing with style and quality, and it's a privilege to own one! believe me! A Gibson Les Paul standard in this day and age would probably set you back a whopping £1500 at the least! So it's good to know that you can get the next best thing for a lot cheaper. Epiphone guitars are a branch of the Gibson brand, and so are manufactured for sound and quality, but dont have quite the same 'ingredients'. An extremely versatile and reliable guitar!

Advantages: The classic bread and butter of our time - beautiful and brilliant

For years to come, people will look at that familiar rounded outline and remember their rockstar hopes and fantasies, as well as their most epic jam sessions! Epiphone: Les Paul Custom Plus

Advantages: Great looks, Lovely playing neck
Disadvantages: Pickups aren't the best

...- Made in Korea - Two pickups and gold plated hardware - 3way selctor switch for ryhthm - Gibson 'designed' pickups - Mahogany body and neck with flame maple top I mainly rock music such as Muse and Smashing Pumpkins. The guitar suits this style of music very well, and a sounds pretty good with a high gain distortion. The pickups aren't great, but they are better than those I have seen on other far eastern guitars. They are not actual Gibson ones as many think, but just pickups made from cheap components by a company working for Epiphone, based on a Gibson design. The action was incredibly low on mine and make this guitar play like a dream. The neck was nice and fat in my hand, and is perfect for playing those long rock solos as it is very comfortable. I have never played a proper Gibson before, but I'm sure it could stand...

Advantages: Good build quality,tone and intonation
Disadvantages: expensive then cheap chineese imitations (but worth the money)

...this is a really good guitar for non beginners.The quality of sound and the intonation is really good.The fretboard is smooth and the finishing is good too. the pickups used and the electronics are high quality too.will sound great if used with a good amplifier. Good for studio recording and playing on stage as well.Its really good for people like me who cant afford to get a gibson as they are even more expensive. Epiphone is a company of gibson only,but sold at cheaper rates,with almost the same quality. I would recommend people to go for this guitar instead of those cheap chineese imitations as they arent even worth the money at all. Final words...really awesome guitar..learn and enjoy playing it!:)...

Advantages: Looks Great, brilliant sutain, action, basically all of the features of the Gibson Les Paul
Disadvantages: Imitation pickups

...is good enough, although it may look a bit arificial for some peoples tastes it is but a minor flaw. The split-diamond headstock design looks great, as do the golden tuners, pickups and bridge. Build Quality You can tell that the guitar has been carefully finished, only very few small painting errors here and there that are barely noticeable. The guitar itself is heavier than most other guitars, (if you are accustomed to Les Pauls you will know this, but it was a bit of a shock when upgrading from my Strat copy) and feels very sturdy. The neck is set perfectly, some cheaper copies fail in this reaspect and it is very important. The low action on the neck makes it a joy to play. I have gigged with this guitar and can tell you that it is one of the best non-floyd rose equipped guitars for staying in tune. This is because...

Advantages: Nice mellow, deep blues/rock sound (Gary Moore, Jimmy Page)

...Epiphone are the same company as Gibson apart from the fact that Gibson guitars are made with the highest quality wood and components, and instead of being made in the USA they're made in poorer countries like Taiwan or Korea therefore being cheaper. The quality of Epiphone guitars, in the last few years, has increased. With the EPIPHONE Les Paul Std.'s the only main difference are the pickups - so if you buy some burstbuckers you should get a sound pretty much the same (quote from www.gibson.com - "BurstBuckers put the ?edge? on replica Gibson sounds") The Epiphone Les Paul Standard comes with either a '50's Rounded or '60's slim taper neck profile where as Classic is only '60's slim.
