CHEAT! - The great ink debate
Review of Epson Stylus C64 by
Weespud
Advantages: Great While It Prints!!
Disadvantages: INK CHEAT!!!
...I was very happy with my C64 printer ...at first.
It printed at light speed compared to my old Canon BJC-250, and the ink doesnt run when you pick up the sheets! - bonus!
The separate ink cartridges seemed like a good idea... you always use more black right?
Bu then one day one of my inks ran out and thats when I realised that I was being scammed on my ink ...by Epson.
I have discovered that the C64 (and probably other Epson models) are programmed to decrease ink levels per print job - not by the type of printing you do.
What Do I Mean???????????
OK, well in the first place my Black ran out, so the printer will not print anything at all. - part of the settings - you cant have one ink missing!
SO I replace the black (with a generic brand cartridge) and decide to set the printer to 'Black Only' to save on colour for some print jobs...

Great printing and Scanning
Review of Canon MP520 by
mfreem
Advantages: Great printing and Scanning
Disadvantages: Ink cartridges 'die' - canon replaces defective cartridges
...Great product, however disappointed that Canon engages in the false ink supply system, forcing unnecessary ink cartridge replacement.
I specifically chose Canon over Epson in an attempt to avoid this kind of issue. That choice came at a price, the MP520 was double the price of the Epson counterpart. I assumed that the money goes to pay for the product and full tanks of ink as opposed to the Epson limited ink offer, subsidized by future ink purchases at premium prices.
Would you beleive that when an ink cartridge 'dies', printer reports 'the following ink tank cannot be recognized.'. That cartridge in my case is brand new and ink inside looks almost full (liquid is visible). That stops printer from working at all, even for printing in black only. What is most annoying is the fact that the scanner stops working as well.
I thought...

CHEAT! - The great ink debate

Epson D92
Review of Epson Stylus D92 by
Bossjock
Advantages: Cheap, Excellent reproduction of Graphics
Disadvantages: Expensive Epson Ink, fiddly, insufficient choice of settings
...As a user of Epson printers for a good number of years I was extremely disappointed with this Printer. The beauty of Epson for me has always been the low cost of Purchase as well as the ability to use compatible inks. I use mine heavily and so when it expired I could easily and cheaply replace it.
As other reviewers have said, it is probably good only for occasional use however my problem, and why I won't buy another Epson, is that Epson deny you the freedom of choice as to what Ink you use ie Compatibles (for example 'Ink-rite'), like it or not you are more or less stuck with overpriced 'Epson'. Whilst the printer will accept compatible inks the chip on the Epson D92 told me the Ink had run out on 'Black' after only a few prints. On inspecting the Cartridge it was 2/3rds full, I then had to 'trick' the Printer into thinking I...

reliable workhorse
Review of Epson Stylus Color 850 by
voodoo
Advantages: speed colour, pages per inkwell
Disadvantages: price age
...This epson printer is bordering on the windows workgroup highend user market and it shows, with reliable parts and a larger ink tank than most epsons.
the print quality is very good and little banding is in effect on the colour printing, the print quality on coated paper is very good only slightly as good as the epson photo printer.
The print speed on the epson 850 is very good and this beauty just streams pages out almost as fast as a lazer printer.
A good quality printer that is perfect for that little extra work....

Review of EPSON DURABrite Multipack - print cartridge by
pridham123
Advantages: Fade resistent, water proof ink.
Disadvantages: Limited choice of printers.
...DURABrite ink is the latest addition to Epson. It is a new generation of ink that quarantees fade resistence for 80 years and is completely waterproof.
---PRODUCTS---
As far as I am aware, there are only 5 products in the DURABrite range. There is a:-
'DURABrite Cyan Ink Cardridge'
'DURABrite Black Ink Cardridge'
'DURABrite Yellow Ink Cartridge'
'DURABrite Magenta Ink cartridge'
''DURABrite Multipack'
The individual cardridges average price around £7 to £15. I recommend you use a compare price website such as 'Kelkoo' or 'Ciao (hey that rings a bell!)', as it is very easy to get ripped off on printer ink cardridges.
The multipack, contains 1 of each of the seperate cardridges. It is usually cheaper to do this. The multipack averages around £25 to £45. Again it is easy to get ripped off so you should compare prices online...

Great printer at a great price
Review of Epson Stylus Color 640 by
stevechilds
Advantages: cheap, good quality
Disadvantages: ink dries in head sometimes.
...Epson printers have in my opinion always been of good quality and reliability.
The Epson Stylus 640 is an excellent low cost printer more than capable of producing high quality high resolution pictures.
It takes two separate ink cartridges, one black and the other tri-coloured (cyan, yellow and red). The cartridge life is good and you get plenty of printing out of them (unless you do a lot of full colour photo printing).
On the downside if you leave the printer for a few days without printing you may need to run the CLEAN HEAD facility as the ink sometimes dries in the print head.
You can use cheaper alternatives to the Epson Ink Cartridges without losing any quality or causing problems with the printer.
Good value for money at £100....

EXPENSIVE SCRAP EQUIPMENT
Review of Epson Stylus Photo 1270 by
mikegold
Advantages: LOOKS GOOD
Disadvantages: WAST OF SPACE
...Having just recently brought my new Epson printer which is a excellent piece of equipment I am dismayed that when
Epson sell new models like my Photo 1270 that they do not put a supply of ink into the market place. MY printer
cost me just short of £400.00 is three months old and useless because there is no colour ink available, I find this
totally intolerable from such a big company the machine will not even print in black and white so I have a £400.00
piece of junk. Epson also do not publish an email address to enable contact they only have printed forms for help
which make complaining very difficult dont think I will bye Epson ever again, it also does not pay to bye the best...

900 Ink compatibles value for money
Review of Epson Stylus Color 900N by
soothsayer
Advantages: Cheap, reliable and lasts a long time
Disadvantages: limited suppliers
...I changed to an Epson 900 about 5 months ago and happened to meet a friend who told me about compatible inks.
My post is really about my experience with the inks I use in my 900
I have used compats before, but suffered a bad experience with them, so converted back to Epson and always paid the Epson full prices.
So when I was told about Jet Tec and they cost just £9 for 3 mono or £10 for a colour and mono, i knew i was dealing with some crappy ink compats and they would probably screw my 900 up.
One day when desperate, i inserted a Jet Tec colour which was given to me as a free sample but never used.
Now I use nothing else....they are very, very good value for money, and last even longer than the Epson genuine inks. More importantly they have never let me down, and always produce great quality printing.
Does anyone know where i can...
