Disadvantages: Little Diffrence from V700, Film holders are a little flimsy for a pro scanner.

...This is a top of the range flatbed scanner designed for professional photographers and designers who need only the best quality. I bought this product after my V700 Broke down. I saw little or no difference with this and its predocessor. The Differences between the two are very subtle and are as follows :- The Epson V700 Photo scanner was trageted at the high end consumer. Whereas the V750 is targeted for the more professional user. The V750 has an Anti-Reflection Optical Coating as well as CCD Glass to help reduce the ammount of reflection. These are Features that Only a professional would look for when buying this type of product and are not all needed for you casual high end consumer in my opinion. Picture Perfect

Advantages: Versatile scanner for more detailed reproduction

As I never had any real problems with my previous Epson I decided I would stick with the same brand an go for the Perfection V700 - a scanner designed specifically for photo scanning but that also acts as an all-purpose scanner. It incorporates Twain and WIA drivers that let you scan from most compatible programs. There also an optical character recognition (OCR) program that converts text images into a document that is in an editable format. ...with plenty of technical knowledge but no appreciation of how to impart this knowledge to the uninitiated consumer. Having had bad experiences previously with maufacturers support lines and a poor opinion of interactive support sites, I didn't use these, preferring to bash on by myself. I had therefore to learn to use the scanner by trial and error. This too is not satisfactory and in my view the reference guide is something which needs to be looked at by Epson. Perhaps their own support is excellent, but I don't suppose I'll ever know. I've had to give it a rating in order that the review is accepted so it gets "Satisfactory." A decent set of instructions would mean Support would not be an issue for most users. Advantages: Excellent quality when scanning slides and negatives
Disadvantages: Professional mode could cause problems for the novice used

...I bought a 4490 specifically to use for scanning slides and negatives. There is no doubt that this scanner is an excellent item for those people that want a professional looking job at a very good price. Previously I had the Epson 2480 and although this was good, it is no match for the 4490,expected really with the time elasped between the release of the models. With the resolution set at least 2400dpi and with only unsharp mask and colour restoration selected the faded slides and neagatives were nearly as new. There are a few points that should be noted. If you are a novice and just want to scan something quickly without having to set different functions this may not be a scanner for you. By selecting colour restoration and Background correction when they are not needed, you can have a negative effect on what would have been...

Perfection Is Not Nesasary

...the more dots per inch you have is better, but again a 300 dot per inch photo is perfectly reasonable. Installing this scanner is easy if you have the CD you slap the CD in and follow the instructions. If like me you don't then you need to pay a visit to www.epson.co.uk to get the drivers, which are easy to find. You simply download the files and plug the thing into the mains and a spare USB port and away it goes. Windows XP does not recognise the scanner automatically so it is important that you install the drivers first. I have never used the software bundled with a scanner since I got my first one many years ago, and I recommend that everyone spends some cash on getting a decent image editing package. I use JASC software's Paint Shop Pro, as it is cheap and just as good as Adobe's Photoshop. To scan using paint shop pro it is simple...
