Epson Stylus Photo R285...Great Product

Advantages: Price, Quality, ease of use, gives you more control over pictures
Disadvantages: If just just want to print normal photos, still cheaper to use a photo shop

...As christmas presents go, here is one that I was definitely very pleased with, up until now I have only had a basic printer which I got a good 4-5 years ago, and obviously needed an upgrade! I have always been fond of Epson products, even though my old printer was old as I stated, I had never had any problems with it, which compared to some friends is a big plus, so when I was looking at getting a new (preferably) photo printer, I had decided on an Epson! Thankfully my partner had been listening to me when I had been dropping hints, and already, even though Ive only had it since christmas I have been extremly pleased with the quality and speed of the printer. You have to be a bit careful when getting a product like a printer, that you use the right ink cartridges and obviously if you want the best result you have to invest in...

Epson Photo R285 printer

Advantages: excellent all round while working
Disadvantages: Subject to ink problems but Ok with insurance

...The Epson Sylus Photo R285 is an excellent printer while it is working. In 12 months I have had two of these printers and both have have had the same fault, that being the sudden inability to recognise full ink cartridges and mule like refusing to budge in any direction.This problem occurs about 2-3 months into its use and seems to be brought on by changing one cartridge. Technical support recognise that there is a fault with apparently no remedy. Fortunately i took out a 3 year guarantee with this and PC World have change the printer. An excellent printer but I would recommend any purchaser to take out an insurance. I am going back for a third but I think this might be the last if the fault occurs again!...

It can do borderless photos at A4 also which is neat. You have the ability to connect your camera right to it instead of going through your computers fussy software. ...The first thing you notice about the Epson Stylus Photo R265 is that it's pretty large. You'd almost think it was a multifunction device, especially given it's height. As such you'll need a fair chunk of desk space to take it. That said, it's attractive enough if a little utilitarian. * The main features are: * 6 ink carts * CD/DVD Printing * Direct photo printing via PictBridge/USB * Claria Long life inks * Borderless printing * 5760x1440 dpi resolution As you can see, apart from the CD/DVD feature, it's a pretty vanilla device. ...the CD printing tray is drawn into the printer prior to printing, and protrudes from the rear of the printer itself. I found that I needed to allow some 8 inches behind the printer. The printer has the ability to print to the edge of the print page (although quality may deteriorate slightly toward the edges), and if the recommended Epson photo paper is used, and your original source image is of sufficient resolution, the print quality is excellent. Advantages: High quality printing, built to last
Disadvantages: Ditched by Epson in favor of the R300

...I think this review now will now have to aimed at the second hand printer market, as I?m 99 % sure that you?ll not find it brand new anymore. This fact is a shame because apart from it being a top notch printer and adding to Epson?s range, I recon it has all the same internals as the more popular R300, only lacking basically the memory card reader and a few updates that not many of us would notice. Obviously, I stand to be corrected if anyone knows better, this is only my opinion. I bought this machine last year in the Jan? sales for £65, a super bargain I think. This is my 3rd Epson printer, also had 2 Lexmark?s, but buggered both of them up by messing with the very expensive ink cartridges. Disadvantages: Very Poor Reference Guide, Noisy, No Power Switch, edges of Scan Bed Missed From Scan

...with plenty of technical knowledge but no appreciation of how to impart this knowledge to the uninitiated consumer. Having had bad experiences previously with maufacturers support lines and a poor opinion of interactive support sites, I didn't use these, preferring to bash on by myself. I had therefore to learn to use the scanner by trial and error. This too is not satisfactory and in my view the reference guide is something which needs to be looked at by Epson. Perhaps their own support is excellent, but I don't suppose I'll ever know. I've had to give it a rating in order that the review is accepted so it gets "Satisfactory."
