Advantages: cheaper to buy 4 but can also buy singly
Disadvantages: you have to look around for the cheapest as prices do vary

...We have a very good Epson DX6000 printer. This printer takes 4 separate inks. This comes in handy when just one colour gets low. I know its low because when I go to do some printing I will get a low ink flashing sign come up and it will then show me how much ink is left and roughly how much copying I can do before it finally runs out. It will also tell me which ink is low. I print off a lot of photographs so it is not just the black ink that runs out but the coloured ones as well. When we first had the printer we did notice that some non epson inks were cheaper and we did think of buying them. We were then informed that if we used these on this printer that was still under guarantee they might refuse to honour the guarantee as we had not used their own brand of ink. Epson SX515W is an excellent printer.

Advantages: Wireless function is easy, print from anywhere.
Disadvantages: While the black finish is nice, it really is a dust magnet.

...After having Epson printers before, I decided to go for another one. But this time, one with wireless capabilities. In box with the printer is the power cable, USB cable (you need these for the initial set up), a set of cartridges and a small pack of photo paper. Was really easy to set up. We use 3 laptops at home and for the first set up I needed the USB cable. Follow the prompts on the discs and it automatically detects your wireless network. For the 2 additional laptops, I didn't need the USB cable and just had to set them up as "additional computers". It's really easy to install the cartridges. Printer has a helpful little screen to prompt you. Scanning and copying functions are really good. Epson R2880... Superb printer and well worth the premium price

Advantages: Well built, superb quality prints
Disadvantages: You have to switch black inks for glossy and matte finishes

...I ordered myself an Epson R2880 from Amazon, they had almost the best price £499.99 delivered. At the time, they also had Epson 3 year extended warranty packs for £35, so I grabbed one of these too. The printer was delivered free in three days. Upon receipt and opening the massive box, it was instantly apparent that the R2880 is built really well. It has some real weight to it, and the panels all line up superbly. The opening top lid opens smoothly too and has some resistance to it, so does not just bag shut again. Around the back it is very simple, power cord socket, plus two USB connections, so you can easily connect to two different computers at the same time. Epson Photo R285 printer

Advantages: excellent all round while working
Disadvantages: Subject to ink problems but Ok with insurance

...The Epson Sylus Photo R285 is an excellent printer while it is working. In 12 months I have had two of these printers and both have have had the same fault, that being the sudden inability to recognise full ink cartridges and mule like refusing to budge in any direction.This problem occurs about 2-3 months into its use and seems to be brought on by changing one cartridge. Technical support recognise that there is a fault with apparently no remedy. Fortunately i took out a 3 year guarantee with this and PC World have change the printer. An excellent printer but I would recommend any purchaser to take out an insurance. I am going back for a third but I think this might be the last if the fault occurs again!...

Epson Printers Top of the list

Advantages: cheap to run, photo quality
Disadvantages: No longer made

...I have had my Epson Stylus 640 for about 18 months and it has been used every day since I purchased it. It has printed out on average 25 pages per day, almost 14,000 pages in total and is still going strong. Being an inkjet printer you do need to use good quality paper if you want decent results, poorer quality papers allow the ink to 'bleed' thus running into each other and producing poor quality images. Since buying this printer Epson have improved and upgraded the printer and this particular model is no longer readily available although you can still see them advertised from time to time. A comparable printer from Epson will set you back about £110 but represents great value for money. Uses non Epson cartridges quite happily, although Epson advise against it, it has not caused any problems with my system and of course...
