...Printers are marvellous things when they work!We bought an Epson DX4000 a couple of years ago after problems with our HP printer. It was reduced in Tesco and as it is a photo copier and printer we thought it was a bargain but decided to check out the cost of the cartridges before buying. We have used various makes of cartridges over the years for previous printers but had been having problems and always having to clean to get good printing so we were wasting ink. We got sample size cartridges with the printer but bought a Multipack so we were ready when a replacement was needed. The Multipack has 4 cartridges, 1 of each black, yellow, magenta and cyan. The box is blue with a picture of a Cheetah and is in the Cheetah range, there are other ranges like Monkey. Hummingbird and Seahorse makinh it easy to spot the one you want to buy...

Really BIG lava lamp.

Advantages: Huge. Soothing. Good value.
Disadvantages: Takes forever to heat up.

...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself. The Giant Grande Lava Lamp comes in two colours yellow and blue or yellow and violet. It is truly enormous at 27" and is guaranteed to be a focal point in your room. Epson EMP S4, one small, great projector

Advantages: Portable, quick to turn on/off, very easy to set up and use.
Disadvantages: Loud cooling system, rubbish internal speaker.

Focus is manually adjustable next to lens. It has vertical keystone (+-30; must have in modern projectors) and display can be electronically shifted off centre up, down, left or right (about 10% of it's width/height). Projector has build in mono speaker (audio signal input by double audio line-in), but not loud (only 1 Watt) so it's usage is limited. Bulb life cycle is 2000h in normal mode (does anyone use economic mode at all?) which is standard in that price range. Replacement bulb is about £120, and is dead easy to fit in. T0715 for Epson printers

Advantages: cheaper to buy 4 but can also buy singly
Disadvantages: you have to look around for the cheapest as prices do vary

...We have a very good Epson DX6000 printer. This printer takes 4 separate inks. This comes in handy when just one colour gets low. I know its low because when I go to do some printing I will get a low ink flashing sign come up and it will then show me how much ink is left and roughly how much copying I can do before it finally runs out. It will also tell me which ink is low. I print off a lot of photographs so it is not just the black ink that runs out but the coloured ones as well. When we first had the printer we did notice that some non epson inks were cheaper and we did think of buying them. We were then informed that if we used these on this printer that was still under guarantee they might refuse to honour the guarantee as we had not used their own brand of ink. Epson EMPTW10 Home Theatre Projector

Advantages: Great picture quality, quiet, easy to use
Disadvantages: Low resolution

...I've had an Epson EMPTW10 since January 2004. It is my first projector. I love this projector. Not only is it quiet and easy to use, it puts out a fantastic image for the money. I project onto a 65" custom made screen and the so-called "screen door" effect (common to LCD projectors with W-VGA or VGA resolution such as this one) is almost invisible. Even better, the colour fidelity is superb and film-like. The only drawback of this machine is its low resolution - it makes screens larger than 2m across unpractical for home theatre use as details on the screen become soft and indistinct. This isn't really a drawback actually - just a fact of its inexpensive specifications. That said, this projector represents fantastic value for money. My 65" picture is easily as impressive as any plasma or LCD image I've seen and it comes...
