Advantages: Price, Quality, ease of use, gives you more control over pictures
Disadvantages: If just just want to print normal photos, still cheaper to use a photo shop

...decent quality printing paper, because if you use bog standard paper, however good the printer is, you will not get the best end result. I wanted quality, so got some proper photo quality printing paper, and the photos are outstanding! I am not totally sure about the economy of using the product, as prices at photo shops have been geting better, meaning uunless there is a reduced price in the ink and photo paper, it will always be a bit more expensive to have your own photo printer, but in my opinion it opens the doors for a lot of opportunities, you have an open canvas, you dont only have to use the photo that you have taken as "a photo", but you can (using a photoshop style program) get a lot more out of one photo than if you took it to a photo shop! ...the CD printing tray is drawn into the printer prior to printing, and protrudes from the rear of the printer itself. I found that I needed to allow some 8 inches behind the printer. The printer has the ability to print to the edge of the print page (although quality may deteriorate slightly toward the edges), and if the recommended Epson photo paper is used, and your original source image is of sufficient resolution, the print quality is excellent. The prints dry very quickly, and the whole thing is very fuss free. ...This is a good, reliable printer, ideal for use at home. Although it markets itself as a photo printer, settings can be adjusted so that 'best picture' printing is not used for plain text or draft copies. It is easy to use, however it can sometimes be unresponsive to commands and buttons may need to be pressed several times - However mine is now several years old. The printer is quite bulky and does take up quite a bit of room when in use, however paper trays can be folded away when not required. I have found 'paper jam' will often occur but usually after the printer has been in heavy use. All in all a good, standard printer. Nothing special but it does the job it was made to do....

...THE EPSON STYLUS R265 CD/DVD & PHOTO PRINTER. I must say that since this one was chosen for me by Epson UK having had a somewhat disasterous time with the previous model of similar ilk, the (EPSON STYLUS R260). The R265 is so far doing well! I have yet to give it the test of time since the R260 "croaked" after a somewhat short space of time in my estimation. 12 months almost to the day! I had an error messages up about non-replaceable parts wearing out and life of printer about to end. ALREADY!!! I fumed! Just out of gaurantee too. I telephoned the Epson UK establishment and was told that it could be repaired but... costs would outweigh the value of the printer. They did suggest that I take up the offer of the Epson Stylus R265. Yes, an altogether better piece of gear in many ways - so far! I await at least another six months to see...

Epson R2880... Superb printer and well worth the premium price

Disadvantages: You have to switch black inks for glossy and matte finishes

..., easy print application and CD print application. I just went for the printer driver (Mac version for me) and it installed very quickly. I was able to do my first test print within about ten minutes of unpacking the printer. It showed no clogged nozzles or problems. Onto a photo and I printed a duotone onto fine art matte paper. The resulting print is awesome. Very good detail, nice smooth gradations and the tone and detail in the shadow areas is fantastic. Speed of printing for this first A4 was good too, at under two minutes. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Since this first print I have completed four full colour glossy photos and they are equally as good.
