...As an artist, Eric Clapton has done a huge amount to promote early blues musicians, reworking some songs, and simply playing versions that follow them to the note. This is notably obvious on Me & Mr Johnson, his tribute to the work of Robert Johnson, often seen as the king of delta blues, but can be found throughout his catalogue. His ability as a guitarist is well known and it is prominent throughout the album as you might guess, being backed by a strong group of musicians to further add to the intimacy of the performance. And it is this ability that allows him to delve into the blues catalogue and provide covers that almost match the beauty of the originals, although admittedly with a larger instrumental backing in most cases. Eric Clapton, One More Car, One More Rider

Advantages: This is a live peformance
Disadvantages: It's not a triple album

...One More Car, One More Rider by Eric Clapton When this album came out I hadn't made my annual pilgrimage to see Mr Clapton for a few years as he seemed to be taking a break. So I was having withdrawal symptoms of live music at its best and that's what you get from this artist his best at every performance. So it was with great relief that I received this CD for a present for Christmas 2003. . Although in 2004 I saw him at the M.E.N. in Manchester. When putting the CDs on I would make sure you're not interrupted as this is a live CD. Tracks on the first CD Open with a sit down set. 1. Key To The Highway - written by William Broonzy and Charles Seegar - This song kicks the album off and it is one of the best and most covered blues. Most famously by Brownie McGhee & Sonnie Terry. Eric Clapton pays homage to Robert Johnson.

Advantages: Robert Johnsons music is showcased by great musicians.
Disadvantages: Not all Robert Johnsons songs were covered.

...I rate this excellent because the guitarist pays homage to his hero, in his style the musicianship is without fault throughout. It is nice to see the Blues played with such energy and obvious enjoyment by all concerned. The only thing that could be a negative is that not all of Robert Johnsons songs have been covered by Eric Clapton yet and subsequentely presented on an album. I hope that these will be done on a future album, as EC has covered most of his work. I have personally heard Eric Clapton play "Milk Cows Calf Blues" and "Little Queen of Spades" from this album at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Manchester Evening News Arena and the live versions were even better than on the cd. Eric, Delaney and Bonnie.

Advantages: Powerful, upbeat, superb recordings

...To be honest, I am not at all a fan of Eric Clapton! And to be quite honest, being only 18 myself I don't even know who Delaney and Bonnie are. I am told by my dad that they were part of a group called Delaney and Bonnie and friends which once featured many different people, like, the genius that is Eric Clapton. I accidentally started listening to this as it was on random in my dad's CD changer in his car. Immediately, I liked the first song 'Things get better' I found it a very upbeat song which was the song that made me listen on. I think it was a really happy, feel good song, and I didn't expect it to be so fast and energetic. I hadn't really heard much of Eric Clapton before and what I had heard was different to this song. I normally wouldn't listen to this type of music, but even as a non-musical person I could appreciate...

...Maybe Clapton is too bluesy to actually be God, but there’s no denying that he is a compellingly sexy and talented man. There’s no song quite like Wonderful Tonight to attract the attention of the ladies, in fact a friend of mines sole purpose for learning to play the guitar is seemingly to lure them to him with its intro. So it’s no wonder Clapton is so prolific in that department. This cd features the best of his work from the early eighties to the late nighties. By doing this it misses out on most of his most famous material, that from the late sixties/early seventies, but there’s still enough here to warrant its purchase. Clapton, a return to the blues

Advantages: Graet album from agreat artist
Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste

...eight on the tracklist is a fairly fast number which is nothing to write home about, a pleasant song ably done, but it does nothing for me, the weakest track on the album. Track nine is Blues leave me alone, another so-so tune, almost dreary with average vocals and no great guitar licks, but a standard harmonica solo thrown in. Ten ? Sinners prayer is almost a dark tune, with excellent vocals, and a wonderful piano backing and sparse guitar licks thrown in with a short solo from Eric. Motherless child at eleven sees the return of the acoustic (twelve string?) a bright medium tempo tune will get you tappin? your toes. Track twelve, It hurts me too, and some great distorted guitar Clapton trying to do a Howlin? wolf but a great track nevertheless. Track thirteen, excellent, vies with track three for best song on the album...

When lights go down and old slow hand plays softly

Advantages: Some really good songs
Disadvantages: A lot of it sounds very similar

...Eric Clapton really shouldn’t need any introduction from the likes of me. Starting off as guitarist in The Yarbirds before forming one of the first super groups ‘Cream’ before moving onto form Derek and the Dominoes where he wrote what is possibly his most famous song, ‘Layla’ (That’s the widdly one used in the Vauxhall TV adverts ooh, however long ago it was – trust me, you know this song), before finally moving onto a solo career. This MTV Unplugged album sees Clapton stay very true to the blues, rarely stepping outside straightforward blues. The album opens with the beautiful instrumental ‘Signe’, it’s a song that brings images of an quiet evening somewhere hot. I’ve no idea why, but it does!
