Advantages: Escapism, cheap, not to be taken too seriously.
Disadvantages: Slightly dated, not that believable.

(I may regret this) Escape to Athena, a very good war film, actually released on the 6th of June (D day) but in 1974. The cast consists of :- Anthony Valentine Claudia Cardinale David Niven Elliott Gould Roger Moore Stefanie Powers Telly Savalas There are of course many other actors in this film, plus the obligatory extras without whom productions like this would not be possible. The film carries a PG rating, which was probably right for the sevebties, but of course times move on, and I tend to think there is nothing in this movie, that would concern a parent. All the filming was carried out in Greece, (island of Rhodes actually) which is the actual location the film is supposed to be in, unlike the "spaghetti...

The movie starts with prisoners being all brought to a new camp where the Germans hope to contain all of the best or from the Germans point of view, the worst escape artists that they have had to waste time and people chasing around the country. This camp has been especially built to contain them all. Regular number counts, difficult ground to tunnel in and all the inmates have their own identifying files kept and updated by the commandant. But they reckon without he intelligence and dogged spirit that the Americans and the British have in abundance. The plan is simple but daring to get out as many prisoners through a tunnel as humanly possible. 300 would be nice but anywhere close to that would be acceptable. Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa DVD

Advantages: FUNNY
Disadvantages: ADULT SUGGESTIONS

...This is a follow up of the first one. It is basically about a cub that gets kidnapped and as he grows up out of the pack meets a few friends like a zebra and some pegiuns. The cub is kidnapped he is take to a local zoo, and he is famous for his dancing. Yes that's what I said a dancing lion. They plot to escape from the zoo and go to Africa. He meets back with his parents does the lion. I can honestly say that his is a good film. The only thing I do have to say is that this one has a lot of adult suggestions in it. Which in my opinion some of them are not suitable for children. I do recommend this as a family film, but, do be aware of the above. Anyway more about the film. There are lot of comedians who does the voices, Chris Rock does the voice of the Zebra's (all of them) as there is a part when (Marti) one...

With the announcement that a third Harold and Kumar movie is now in production, and scheduled for a 2010 release, I would expect it to be titled... "Harold and Kumar go Straight To DVD" !...

...This film will appeal to sci-fi action fans. No Escape is set in 2022. The American prison system is now privately owned and is big business. An evil prison warden has a small island at his disposal that he uses to put the worst criminals in the prison system. When Robbins (Ray loitta) is convicted of murdering his commanding officer he is sent to prison. Once in prison he is commanded to execute a fellow prisoner for transgressing one of the prison rules. During this scene he manages to hold a gun to the wardens head but gives up after a few seconds. He is the sent to a place called absalom. Solid prison escape film

Advantages: Great prison movie
Disadvantages: Left hanging at the end

...Don't you just love prison movies where the prisoners are trying to escape undetected? For me they make riveting television, so for that reason alone Escape from Alcatraz is great viewing, and one of the best prison movies around (apart from the classic The Shawshank Redemption). This film is based on the true story of prisoners who managed to escape from one of the most secure prisons in the world, Alcatraz. The prison obviously couldn't have been that secure if a couple of prisoners armed with a teaspoon and butter knife managed to escape, but I don't build prisons so I'm no expert. Alcatraz is no longer a prison but a rotting mass of concrete, and has become a rather popular tourist attraction off the coast of San Franscisco, with the visitors obviously trying to find the hole in which the prisoners escaped from (probably). How To Escape From Alcatraz?

Advantages: Excellent tense storytelling, Eastwood at his best
Disadvantages: Lack of action sequences

.... Alternatively you could notch up a quick Wikipedia search and read the entire story, but why waste a fantastic two hours of entertainment in favour of a brief article on the net? If DVD features are your thing, get ready to marvel over the wonderfully remastered audio and uh, not much else. There are no extras and it seems as if they've taken the VHS, slapped it back in to production and churned a new batch out in DVD form. A big disappointment since an audio commentary would have been fantastic over the long scenes without dialogue. The movie itself is worth it's place in your collection. If you're a prison escape fan like myself, you'll love this. Highly recommended stuff....
