...I visited the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, WA in June 2006 to run a conference for work, which really is the only way I would have been able to stay there, as it is a little out of my price range (although most places are!). Certainly though, the price does reflect the quality of the hotel as the standards of customer care, both to business guests and tourists is absolutely excellent. The hotel has a long history, with a building in various forms (customs house etc) being on the current site since 1896. Through the years it has expanded, most notably for the 1987 Americas Cup defence, and now comprises 300 bedrooms and excellent conference/event facilities. Great 5* Berlin Hotel

Advantages: Great value for 5* hotel, very modern, clean
Disadvantages: Air-con was broken down..

...Just came back from our long weekend (2nd May Bank Holiday, 26May-28May) with 4 other friends. We went to Berlin with Easyjet; it was about £120 per person (a little pricey due to peak period) and the flight time is a little inconvenience because it departed at 6.30am, and check-in time is from 4.30am so we took the last train from London Bridge to Luton airport (about 1hour). We got there by 1.30am and slept on the benches for few hours. There are three airports in Berlin, which are Schoenefled, Tegel and Tempelhof. We went to Berlin Schoenefled with Easyjet and this is the furthest airport from town centre and to the hotel (Grand Hotel Esplanade), it took us about 1 hour. Plymouth - Santander

Advantages: saves lots of driving in France
Disadvantages: poor on board facilities

...suited to the short to medium duration crossings such as Portsmouth - Le Havre/ Cherbourg .. Brittany Ferries may well have changed things by now but if not then they need to have a rethink about the type of ship and on board facilities offered for such a long crossing.. The routing was excellent and within 10 mins of ou arrival in Santander we were on the esplanade making our way out of Santander to our destination of Llanes.. all in all we would use this crossing again but hope that Brittany Ferries have improved the services on offer on board ship.....

Islandline where the trains are always on time!

Advantages: Never Late
Disadvantages: Only 8 Stops!!

...It is said to be the best run train in Britain!!! Well kept, always on time. How can it not be?? The Island Line runs the 8 miles between Shanklin and Ryde Pier Head. The stops are as follows: Shanklin Lake Sandown Brading Havenstreet Ryde St. Johns Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier head. It cost a cheap £3.90p to get an adult day return from Shanklin to Ryde. However, you can get a Rover ticket after six which is a set price of £2 per adult ticket and you can use as many times as you like from 6pm to about 10.30pm which is when the last train is. The trains that island line use are in fact the old (very old) London underground trains. The whole journey is very bumpy and noisy and I am always worried the train is going to de-rail. ...The Esplanade Hotel in Paignton in Devon has some good points and some awful ones.It is a two star hotel and it was probably built in the early 1900's. The best way for us to present our review is in sections. THE ROOM. It was very small with a microscopic bathroom with no daylight. The hand basin was tiny , a shower you could not move in and no bath. There was tea and coffee making facilities and a television. No view from the window as we were out the side of the hotel overlooking a flat roof. The beds were uncomfortable and in urgent need of replacement. The paint was very faded and the wallpaper had started peeling off the walls. CLEANING. Cleaning was done daily but to a low standard. Bits of paper on the floor were there when we arrived and the same bits remained when we left. We do not think the duster made more than a brief...

...I have only been to Weymouth twice but both times I was lucky weather wise because I enjoyed splendid weather.Actually Weymouth is a rather nice mixture of old and new,traditional and modern,lively and sedate,and that is why I like it.The esplanade is elegant with some nice Regency style buildings but it is also busy,vibrant and lively. If you enjoy real character then the old Weymouth harbour is a good place to head for and there are some very cosy bed and breakfast places to stay in. There is a lot to do and see in the Dorse resort. You can go on a boat trip, visit Portland, have a trip round a brewery, or attend one of several popular summer shows. The dining out scene in Weymouth is varied. There are a lot of very traditional seafront cafes which are relatively inexpensive but dont pretend to serve up gourmet food. In the harbour...

You can reach this byship,car-ferry,hovercraft and hydrofoil services.There is an excellent bus service that links most of the areas and coach tours to chief centres that have interest.The accomodation is varied and you have top of the range or lower scaled.There are also holiday camps and caravan sites. Journey around and explore. Ryde has amusements, very good swimming and a golf club. Ryde overlooks the solent waters and this is where you enbark from the hovercraft.You have a good information centre at The Esplanade,so pick up your maps etc here. ...thing I can foresee is no more boy racer Nova's flying along the Esplanade. It's a stupid idea and they are using your money in the meantime to fund research into a lost cause. It's not even here and you're paying for it already Blah!...

Take a trip to Sunny Southend! (Adventure Island)

Advantages: Free admission, no long queues, fun, good rides
Disadvantages: Not massive and no Alton Towers

...an area with mini-bowling which is surprisingly fun! Another great thing about this park is there are practically no queues and the longest queues are about 5 minutes! Overall Adventure Island is a great theme park for all ages and is also fairly cheap. It has many rides and you also don`t have to queue long. Include the fact it is free to enter and you have a pretty good small theme park! I however would not travel more than about 30 minutes to get here! A fun day out if you live locally!
