ETAP HOTEL

Advantages: favourable, useful, city centre near
Disadvantages: ---

...Equipment: The Etap hotels can be compared with Mc Donald or Burger King very well. One gets off, one can be sure, what expects one and natural the other way round also, what one mustn't expect from Aix-la-Chapelle to Zwickau -- identical where. As a Low budget hotel the Etap confines itself to the essential. The rooms dispose a basin, shower, toilet, desk, television set and alarm clock, of a big French bed, another sleep possibility for a third person in form of a bunk bed. The Etap in Munich stands out due to the separation from shower and toilet and the available air conditioner in comparison with other Etaps. Despite proximity to the main street many driven on the rooms are quietly and well isolated for closed window. One has increased the offered number of TV transmitters from 7 to 16 in between so that all...

Etap Hotel Strasbourg is a great place to stay!

Advantages: cheap, clean, comfortable, convenient location, friendly staff
Disadvantages: nothing really, unless you count slightly odd decor

...When I first moved to Strasbourg I had no accommodation and had to live in a hotel for a little while. Fortunately someone had recommended the Etap hotel and it was a great place. The hotel is located opposite the station, across the grassy area and gave me a great view from my window. There was a little traffic noise but not enough to disturb you. There's a Mc Donald's nearby as well as another restaurant (I forget the name) which offers a discount to those staying in the hotel. Being opposite the station, it's well located for getting the train or tram somewhere, or alternatively you can just walk. The room was about ?46 a night and when my friend also arrived, it was only a few quid more to add her into my room. Most of the rooms consist of a double bed with a single bunk on top, but because I was there for quite a long stay...

Etap Hotel Paris Porte D'Italie, Kremlin Bicetre

Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Quality of rooms

...This is another hotel from Accor, the founders of Ibis. However i am reviewing the Etap hotel situated on the outskirts of Paris, within an area known as Kremlin Bicetre. In this area, you have the choice between an Ibis hotel, a Novotel and the Etap, as well as various other smaller establishments, of which the Etap is by far the least expensive. The Etap Hotel Paris Porte D'Italie is split into two buildings; Ouest (west) and Est (east). Whereas the western hotel has 144 rooms, the eastern has 171. However both offer the same value for money. But please remember these are low budget, no frills hotels so don't expect to be living in the lap of luxury! The French Etaps are cheaper than those in the UK and will only set you back 48 Euros (around £33) per room per night. But bear in mind there is a 3 Euro suppliment for the second...

Good Yorkshire value

Advantages: Good value, good location
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, hard bed

...Having become a firm fan of the bargain that is the Formule 1 chain of hotels, I always check on that company's website first when looking for accommodation in the UK. However, when planning a trip to Leeds recently I learned that the chain do not have a hotel there and so had to do more research. The usual "cheap accommodation in ?." search found an article about a hotel that was due to open in Leeds the day before our visit. The Etap chain of hotels are a French concern and part of Accor, the same parent group of Formule 1. They have hotels across France and Germany and are gradually opening hotels in the UK as well as in Central and Eastern Europe. The concept is simple; all rooms are identical, sleep three people and are designed to require little maintenance and all rooms are the same price. In the hotel in Leeds this is £32...

Etap Birmingham Centre, Birmingham

Advantages: cheap, clean, friendly staff
Disadvantages: quite a walk from town centre

...Etap Hotels are another budget hotel chain created by Accor, the creators of hotel giants Ibis. This 250 room complex is situtaed in the centre of Birmingham and all rooms cost £35, whether its a weekday or the weekend. But for this price, don't expect luxury acommodation, as luxury is probably the worst word to describe this hotel. The rooms are clean and modern and sleep up to 3 people. In most cases, this is either a double or twin beds with a single bunk on top - not very glamourous but good for the money. You do get a television (complete with an array of English and European channels), but I can't guarantee that you'll get coffee and tea making facilities, as some rooms seem to be missing these. There is also no hairdryer or anything like that, but you can get one if pay a £10 deposit at reception - you will get this returned to...

Etap Amsterdam Airport

Advantages: Clean, comfortable, cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: No safe in room, No drawers

...Etap is part of the French Accor Hotels Group which operate under several names. and comes into the budget bracket, Etap has at present 311 hotels dotted all over Europe, but mainly in France Etap Amsterdam Airport opened in early 2003 and like several of Etap's hotels it is within walking distance of an Ibis Hotel. The price at this hotel is 55 Euros per night and an extra 5 Euros for continental breakfast which is buffet style, but a little bit basic. Coffee is typically paint stripper French Style. There were white and brown soft rolls, white & brown bread (British Toast Size), European Toast Bread, Jam, Chocolate Spread, Honey, Peanut Butter, Spreading Cheese, and the last 2 days there was a choice of pates. On the beverage side there was tea, paint stripper coffee, hot chocolate, fruit and herbal teas, milk and fresh orange...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Duesseldorf for young people

Advantages: Welcoming to young people, lots to do, welcoming to English people
Disadvantages: very big and possibly confusing at times

...When I visited Duesseldorf I went because I had a German friend who lived there. Being 17 I was able to take advantage of the lower pub entry age to that of England which was great for socialising in the evening's with his friends. The accomodation I stayed in was a youth hostel on the west side of the river Rhine, just across the water from the main part of Duesseldorf. Not only was the accomodation cheap but also no more than a 20min walk from the main centre of the city. Duesseldorf has a large number of Turkish people living there which means that there is a lot of Turkish influence in the city, none more so than in the food as there are many "Doenar" shops selling authentic Turkish food. The best thing for myself would have to be the fact that i was able to go into the "altstadt" in the evening, where most of the pubs...

Review of Düsseldorf (Germany)

Cheap as croissants!

Advantages: Very clean and cheap
Disadvantages: None!

...I remember? roughly two years ago it was my first time... my first time in Paris! I booked the flights and my friend was in charge of the hotel. I am not fussed when it comes to accomodation, as long as it is reasonably close to the centre and clean that is all that counts. I am not fussed about stars and people opening doors for me! We ended up booking a 2 night break starting from the Friday and the cost was just over ?100 and that included breakfast too ( the price we paid was roughly £80 in Sterling, just in case you are not too familiar with Euros). I thought it was a bargain and was very pleased with her choice, after all I would rather spend money doing shopping than giving it away for a room I only end up sleeping in for a few hours! Check in was pretty fast, and the people wearing uniforms where really friendly, once...

Review of Etap Hotel Paris Porte de St Ouen, Paris

Top of the budget league

Advantages: Cheap. clean, comfortable, near major routes
Disadvantages: Rarely in town centres

...This review is very similar to my opinion on Formule 1 hotels, but there are sufficient differences to warrant a separate review for Etap. I have to say that when I have a choice, I always pay the bit extra and go for Etap Etap are the Accor chain's two-star offering. They have hotels in the UK, France, Luxemburg, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria Hungary and Israel. In the UK, they have two hotels in London, one in Barking and the other at City Airport. A room Barking will set you back £36.95 for one, £41.95 for two or three. At the airport it's £34.95 and £39.95. All you can eat buffet breakfast £2.95 extra. They have several hundred locations in France (they are a French chain), including on the outskirts of Paris, accessible to public transport. Room prices depend on location, and are again...
